I can't play Bloodlines without downloading a cosmetic mod for the protagonist now. Even for back then, your aesthetic options sucked.

I don’t think a game like VTMB could come out today, so we were probably never going to get anything that measured up or surpassed it anyways.

I just imagine every NPC would be Damsel cranked up to oblivion, and gameplay would be be one car wreck after another til end.

I think they'd be Damsel but unironic. You have the option to tell her to fuck off and argue with her, even if she refuses to budge. They'd just make the options be various forms of agreement or telling these NPCs that you're woke now.

The big one that wouldn't fly that most people don't catch unless you play a cook is calling Velvet Susan REEEEEE DEADNAME REEEEEE.

Oh god true.

I don’t play the table top side of things, but from some of the modern lore it seems pretty leading/tilted towards the “rebels”. I understood it as all clans are good or bad depending on your perspective. I could be totally wrong, though.

They’re so uncharitable with everything that probably would cause a stink. I’m aware the lore has these kinds of things baked into it, but they want sermons instead of world building. No thanks.

Pretty much yeah, the anarch (dissident) faction have been heavily emphasised in current edition to the point they're the default protagonist. They used to be a plucky dissident faction in a city, now they've got huge chunks of territory and 5/6 clans backing them. But don't really have anything going on to justify that. The other two sects just picked up their ball and went home.

The game also shat on the other two factions to try and put people off playing them. The game outright gutted the Sabbat and made the carmarilla retarded evil instead of pragmatic evil.

The Anarchs being a major faction makes zero fucking sense. They're the guys whose entire raison d'etre is to show that without strong leadership whipping them into shape Vampires become fractious and disorganized. The Camarilla might have been a den of snakes, but at least you knew that from the start and there's always someone you can shift blame to. The Anarchs on the other hand all agree on the what ("fuck the man!") but can't vote the why or the how to save their lives. For all their bluster the Anarchs were always there to get their shit pushed in whenever the Camarilla or the Sabbat decided they were tired of the upstarts.

Making the Anarchs its own sect would be fine. Three sects are more interesting of a dynamic than two. If you tied it into a 'week of nightmares' plot point where the end of the world almost happened but the various supernatural factions managed to pull the world from the brink it'd even make sense. The Anarchs managed to pull their shit together and become independent in the power vacuum of everyone getting their shit wrecked. They rebounded a bit faster, and managed to grab a few cities.

You'd just you know need to keep the other factions as playable. Can't have three fun sects if you gut the sabbat.

Oh and Bloodlines 2 should have been Camarilla as the main faction.

Reminder: the Anarchs did succeed at some point and did well, taking control of quite a few cities in the day... they created the Soviet Union in the process. It resulted in the Brujah fucking cleansing out the other clans and letting the survivors live as powerless serfs as they created a grand one clan council to rule the cities. In lore they also were the reason Stalin got picked when Lenin died and rather supported his mass murder.

Yeah, remember that next time these fucking idiots try to pretend they both know the lore and try deluding their takes as being supernatural superheroes. Anarch does not fucking equal good.

The Soviet brujah arnt genrally considered anarchs.

Anarchs tend to work a lot better job in older editions where they made up a dissident movement in the carmarilla or holdouts in Sabbat territory. In v5 it falls apart because they've got loads of territory, power and numbers but still act like a load of angry dissedents handing out in some shit part of town.

I'm sorry but you can't larp as vampire antifa if you're actually in charge. See chaz for details

True, but they considered themselves Anarchs, as much as the other ones tried to scream that they aren't. They even started as them from what I can tell. I'm going with them being Anarch, since they sure as hell weren't Cammie or Sabbat, even if Autarkis or some other vamp-word makes more sense to define them.

TBH if they ever won more than a few cities again, my best guess is you'd get Somalia or you'd the the Soviets 2: electric boogaloo if you applied WoD logic.

I'm sure they'll be arguing that a True Socialist Anarch state has never been tried whenever the Soviet Brujah are mentioned.

Swansong is what Bloodlines would be if made today.

I still crack the fuck up at the Malkavian having that ridiculous undercut hairdo. Where do you get the time to maintain, style and pay for that shit when you're in the vampire secret service.

Didn't California manage to have the Anarch Free State for a short while? Every city had its Prince Baron who left each other alone under the general agreement that overall order be maintained, or something to that extent? Of course, being disorganized rabble like that made it easy for literally anyone else to show up and start pushing their shit in. Granted, I'm just going by what was brought up in VTMB. The "actual" White Wolf lore is beyond terrible, with the event that lead to everything starting off being the absolute joke that is black Anarchs (read: Brujah) being beaten up by WASP Toreadors solely because of skin color. I'm sure it wasn't because the Brujah fucked around and found out, no sir.

Forgot I was looking forward to VTMB2 and you guys reminded me and now I am sad.

Yes, and they got subverted and conquered by the Kuei-Jin. IIRC the California Free State didn't even last 100 years, it was a drop in a bucket by Cainite standards.
That's pretty much what I thought. Still, by the usual life expectancies of Anarchs that's an entire lifetime.
