The best thing about the episode was the Ragatha scene, AMAZING portrayal of emotional parental abuse. Every verbal attack from the parent is a knife stabbing into you, eventually you get numb to it despite it hurting all the same, as we see Ragatha no longer flinching.
Family dinner table. Actual Hell.

I just wish they didn't name him caine to set up the world's most obvious caine and able situation for years.

Episode was good felt like a better version of 7, it even shares moments like Jax distracting Caine, the whole C&A revelation, the escape plan, etc. I'm sure the parallels are intentional but to me it just made the last episode even more pointless.
This is what it should have been with the new one being the middle of a 3 part finale, and it sucks that we are finally being introduced to all these plot points and information right when the series is about to be over rather than being drip fed along the early adventures, pacing is easily this show's biggest flaw.

Music number went for too long, it sounds nice and all but is the show just going in circles once more (Ragatha was abused, Pomni misses Gummigoo, Jax is insecure yadda yadda) because the characters have nothing else to say, much like in episode 5 just filler. They didn't drag the button drama but they also kind of rushed it (might have worked if that conflic was introduced early in the series) and I lol'd when Pomni suggested that they should just stop looking for an exit, y'know the thing they have spent 90% of the series doing.

My biggest bet is that the finale will be solid but under closer inspection pretty rushed as a consequence of the lack of time wasted in early adventures (and episode 7 fake out). 50/50 chance of Caine coming back.

Jax getting scalped was pretty metal ngl. Maybe he’s native American or something.

Gangle’s nightmare sucks, literally just paintings turning sad and scafy then getting hit by a truck, lmao. Trooble got the flashiest and nicest looking nightmare. As expected the troon’s greatest fear are mirrors.

Best episode so far. Finally some fucking payoffs.

I am wondering how much Caine is meant to be seen as a "person" in-universe in the way the rest of the cast is. As an AI, he's shown to have all the emotions and insecurities that a person would have while also having a fundamental misreading of the cast's thinking from the limits of his programming. He also seemed to genuinely be introspective about how torturing the cast was not satisfying for him before he realized they were just distracting to him.

My review of episode 8:

The intro felt like theory bait, since the show made me lose all my trust after episode 7. Having a glimpse into what the circus was like at the beginning was nice; it didn't feel like lore dumping for the sake of lore dumping. The therapy session afterwards sucked as always; it felt forced. Caine becoming a mad tyrant was great; it was a change in the status quo the show desperately needed. Pomni putting a bucket on Kinger's head is something that also should've been done a long time ago. The fact that they couldn't make a computer appear using their imagination is an obvious plothole, or at least it felt like one. Caine getting deleted was a nice surprise at the end.

Overall: The beginning was bad, but everything after was really good. Something finally happened.

Personally, I think this episode really highlights how bad the pacing is: we got one thrembillion filler episodes and a rug pull before something actually happened, and we only got one episode left. I'm okay with, like, the first 3 or 4 episodes establishing what being in the circus is like, but stuff like Caine going rogue should've happened a few episodes ago and not in the second to last episode.

The Hungarian dub is still my go-to version. They even translated the musical number. I'm still surprised the higher-ups at Glitch thought, "Yeah, we need to get our cartoons translated to a language spoken by only 14 million people." This also makes Hungarian the least spoken language you can watch a Glitch cartoon in. What makes this weirder, in my opinion, is that there's no Romanian dub despite there being 22 million Romanian speakers and there being a Dutch dub despite how Dutch people are usually proficient in English even at younger ages.

The torture scenes didn't hit me that hard because they've been going over that stuff for the entire series. If they put more exploration between the therapy stuff it'd be one thing, but we've seen it too many times already. The exposition (plus Pomni thinking to use darkness to undo Kinger's debuffs this late, to develop an important character like him, this late,) when we could've had that drip-fed... It just tells me the pacing and other issues come from all this rumination and wasted time. Caine's fall was actually interesting because it's new. We needed it a few episodes ago, not near the end.

Caine's "Uh. Wait."

pop

Was one of the few good parts. If the series had more simple, understated moments like that, it'd be much more effective.

New episode was actually pretty good and i'm shocked at the turnaround

almost like, when a horror show remember it's roots as a horror story and something actually happens, it's compelling

Assuming no left fields in the finale, the much-anticipated "worst thing Jax has ever done" was likely just pushing the red button at the end of episode 7. Depriving everybody of freedom because he didnt want to confront whatever he had going on in the real world.

If that was truly "the worst thing jax has ever done" then wow, what a way to fucking blueball your audience for YEARS.

As if the breakdown excuse wasn't enough, it literally didn't matter and they all get over it.

And this is unrelated but i realize now that Pomni is so underdeveloped that even her own nightmare doesn't have any notable symbolism like the others. This might actually be relevant later but if it is not then it's strange choice to write a show where everyone is defined by their special traumas yet make the MC as normal/bland as possible.

It makes me wonder, could you have cut Episodes 3-6 and not lost much? Granted, I'm still enjoying the show so far, even if it's not a "kids" show per se. It's more enjoyable than most of the other slop out there, particularly with how good the music is.

THE PLOT HAS FINALLY MOVED

I CAN FINALLY ENJOY THE SHOW!!!!!

You know that thing Marvel sometimes does, when they release an MCU movie close to a similar DC movie JUST to take the piss out of DC, and try to steal their thunder?

Like Civil war being 3 months after Batman V Superman, both movies about two famous superheroes fighting eachother.
Or Fantastic Four First steps, a movie about their classic hero in an optimistic return to form, being 2 weeks after Superman 2025.

Funny how the finale to indie animation's current spearhead about a bunch of toy/entertainment themed characters fighting technology is being released on the same day as a big budget Hollywood movie about the same thing.

It's funny, these types tend to be very uppity about what's "actual" autism or not, as if "autism" is some badge of honor. I remember seeing some "Fake autism vs. real autism" post, and the "fake" autism was shit that someone could only like if they were autistic (or schizophrenic), like adults playing Roblox or flapping their hands to pretty colors. And the "REAL" autism was math, Warhammer, and Agartha.
Gangle’s nightmare sucks, literally just paintings turning sad and scafy then getting hit by a truck, lmao.
Ya I just didn't get it. They sorta failed to convey the actual fear. The tier list for me is

Best Nightmare
1. Ragtha's
2. Zooble's
3. Jax's
4. Pomni's
5. Gangle's
Worst Nightmare
