Incredible. This series has been so quiet we got a second thread for it.
Anyway, I would really like to see a compilation that redoes all of the yet-to-be-remade handheld games. Days could use the upgrade, Coded is legit great (though narratively it only really serves as a preamble to Dream Drop), and the mobile ones are too lore-relevant to be stuck on phones.
Don't forget that could make Chains not fucking suck ass with its stupid card system.

@Michael Wade youre good at narrating these but for the life of me i just couldnt follow the Union X post all throughout. I played that damn thing all the way til end of service and i dont even remember most of the story

Just hope that whenever all of this makes it into a main game they find a way to make it easier to follow

People on Xitter yesterday were certain we were getting a KH4 trailer at the Game Awards but I'm assuming we got nothing
Jump fiesta has a rich history of hosting KH trailers and it starts on the 17th. we'll see how it goes but I doubt we wont get anything coming later this month.

If you got any questions lore wise id be more then happy to help out and answer them. If you really want to break it down, everything goes back to the Master of Masters and his ancient brutal war against the darkness. That shit brings a whole new level to KH and the origins of the keyblades.

Alright. Last but not least.

Dark Road

This is a lot less complex then the other two moble games but it has a lot of lore drops and does a very commendable job saving xehanort's character arc after some derailment from 3.

Before you read on, unlike the other two games that ceased service. Dark road is still available as a free single player game. It's still kinda grindy and I didnt really go through the hassle of playing it all the way, but If anybody's genuinely interested in playing it you totally can. It brings back the card system from xchi and it's a real time battler.

With that out of the way I gotta say this game lives up to the name of dark road.

It's 100 percent the darkest story in the franchise. To the point where it felt like Nomura was taking a page from Yoko Taro at times. This isnt a spoiler by the way, this is the end scene of the first episode to let you know what your in for. A lot of the story is told out of order. I'll just give the cliff notes, there's not as much to process.

Basically xehanort (after he meets his future ansem self but before he becomes a full blown time traveler) gets teleported to Scala en clieum by nort ansem and we follow his time as a keyblade trainee with occasional flashes of future events up to BBS .

We find out that there's also a crapton of other keyblade wielders.

Including him and Eraqus there's.... actually 14 in total with one Master who looks like Gandalf named odin.
The kids all are decently characterized but they dont hold back on the body count so im not going to go into to much detail.

The whole game starts as a search and rescue by xehanort and his classmades to go look for the upperclassmen who disappeared after their master (odin) sent them on an unsupervised field trip to observe various worlds without interfering to prepare for the mark of mastery. That turned into a shitshow when they landed in sleeping beauty and impulsively try to fight maleficent. Half of them get killed from trying to take her on and it gets worse from there

The great themes of the game are of the uncertainy and doubt the kids go through as they encounter situations and problems they are not prepared for and dont know how to handle. (odin is not good at supervising and teaching them right from wrong) The disney side of things is actually the best written and most interesting it's been in ages. For the most part the kids dont really talk to anybody who's a major hero, they talk to scary figures like hades, jafar, the queen of hearts, basically everybody who's a scumbag and that doesnt give xehanort a very good impression of people. Before long they realize one of the Demon Darknesses from union X survived and is gunning for them and the surving upperclassmates. It's underhandingly manipulating everything around them, enhancing heartless and hunting them down. In desperation the surviving upperclassmen toy with the idea of summoning kingdom hearts to give themselves an edge, even thinking of using the genies lamp to summon it. They chicken out at the last min, so darkness decides to go plan B and kill everyone.

Darkness managed all this by choosing the most mentally weak and unstable kid of the bunch Buldr and possessing him.
1702182941518.png

His entire problem is that he had the ability to connect with people like sora, but this backfired HORRIBLY for this kid because he felt everybody's darkness and evil more then their light. The only person that gave him any comfort was his purehearted sister and the moment she died after fighting maleficent he fucking snapped. (it's somewhat unclear if maleficent was even there and if she killed anyone , there's contradicting accounts of maleficent in dragon form killing her and a possessed buldr killling her) Not helping matters, odin confined buldr to solitary confinement after his sister dies, with what little of sanity gone he fully becomes a thrall to darkness.

Buldr ends up killing everyone but xehanort, Eraqus and odin in what amounts to a keyblade mass shooting. Then they have the final battle in scala en cliem and one of the most disturbing scenes ive ever seen in a KH game happens when the spirit of Buldr's dead sister tries to talk him down.

Imagine if a dark side luke was talking to force ghost obi wan right? imagine they are having a real heart to heart conversation about coming back to the light and then at the last second obi pulls out a fucking knife. Yeah.. I did not see that shit coming.

Xehanort fucking ices this kid instead of trying to save him. (with a fucking smile no less in the release version, they patched that out later) under enormous guilt Odin retires and stops training anymore kids. Leaving Eraqus and Xehanort utterly alone after their mark of mastery exams are undertaken. (Technically there was one other survivor, but he was being possessed by luxu and decided not to interfere and pretended to be dead as the chaos unfolded.)

Eventually meeting the MOM a year later after wandering through darkness in a depressed borderline suicidal phase. Xehanort gains the impetus to become the cold hearted spock faced bastard we all know and love.

I really like how they characterized Xehanort in this. He's a blunt but decent kid who retreates inward and becomes more detached from empathy and kindness as his classmates get killed left and right. He's got the same ability to connect with people as sora does, but ultimately to avoid further loss and pain he becomes a reclusive obsessed with power.

Eraqus was portrayed as a carefree guy who gets emotionally devastated and forced into maturity by the loss of his friends.. They did a good job making his actions in BBS seem less idiotic by establishing their deep friendship and their on and off rivalry over summoning kingdom hearts that spanned several years.

Random KH lore time: (Because I dont know how to naturally put this into the story summary)

Every world originated at daybreak town before getting split apart in darkness via the keyblade war. This is the origin of the order to not meddle in the affairs of other worlds.

Every world has a diffrient time flow depending on when and how quickly they come back. (this is to explain why xehanort can mess around with disney characters at a young age that should be 80 years old in BBS)

Worlds that lack NPC's are characterized as incomplete (Agrabah from KH 1 is used as an example). Living people are filled in last.

Some worlds are pretty unstable and half formed.

When people die in KH they fade into light no matter what, be it killed by darkness or old age. (This is all.. rather suspicious to me, and makes me wonder if their bodies are actually physically in the relm of light. FF14 has a moment were comatose character's souls are able to travel to other worlds assume physical forms and age... so that got the noggen joggin)

Darkness is attracted to high concentrations of keyblade wielders and they dont have a high mortality rate as a result.

Here's the biggest spoiler Xehanort lore dump.

Xehanort was taken from his folks at Scala at a young age and brought to Destiny islands to be raised in secret as the chosen one by the Player from union X. Because Xehanort is an empath and has the ability to connect with other people he's got the potential to be a great hero and bring balance to the force. (Xehanort has the bloodline of Ephemer, although it's an open secret the player got the prophecy wrong and Sora's the real deal) Using that empathetic ability he experienced some of the player's memories and assumed they were his own. Things were going ok up until the player died of old age and then everything went to time travel shit.

Also the MOM has the ability to steal keyblades.

Going to start another playthrough of KH1, I saw someone finally figured out how to make Donald and Goofy not useless pieces of shit overall. Another bit i'd like to do is finally use dawn instead of dusk. the levels pre-cure are the worst fucking parts about the game and being higher leveled might actually make those a breeze to get through. By the time you hit level 50 you should be able to destroy "the end of the world" bosses, and you'll have every spell to make it near impossible for you to get killed. also i want to know how easy the Collisum to learn thunder, switch to wonderland, move to deep jungle route is.

KH1 is insane with how many ways there are to fuck up your playthrough vs an easy way. like you can get stat ups from that stupid tarzan surfing minigame and a shitload of other ones they don't tell you about. same with shit like guard into a spell or gravity+stop combos or stop also affecting the clock during the cup time trials. also fire is near instanteous from your downward slash.

I also feel KH1 is harder than final mix just because of all the cool shit they give you in Final Mix, plus the QOL improvements. the gummi ship stuff being tougher doesn't really make up for how many abilites and upgrades you get.

I think your spoiler mischaracterizes what happened.

The sister Hoder pulls the Keyblade to block Baldr's attack. She knew he would try to backstab her because he had been taken over. She didn't betray him.

I'm offended how the devs can make actual effort in the writing only to delegate it to mobage hell. It's also way too convoluted to ever actually matter in the grand scheme of things.

I just went back to MoM and I forgot how, despite having an almost non-existant story, it still manages to take the piss. Is anyone else dreading 4 being yet ANOTHER Sora/Riku makeout session? 3 establishes an entire cast of possibilities and yet it sounds like we're just gonna do the CoM/DDD thing and put those two in a box with no one else allowed in.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic if it was literally anyone but Riku. The man has been dull as tap water since CoM and his non-player controlled, non-Ansem empowered track record has been trash. And yet they just keep putting him front and center. Not to mention they threw Kairi under the bus to make it happen. It's a real shame because her current voice actress makes a pretty good audible narrator.

Square is probably catering to the Fujoshi demographic. It's the only explination I can think of to where you go from a genuine "friendship" slash "guy saves damsel in distress and has feelings for each other" plot to every 3 person team having a serious case of bro-mance that borders on Yaoi territory while the female characters get stuck on the sidelines with the exception of maybe Aqua.

Alright show of hands, who needs or would like a summary of the mobile games. Because the character in missing link is straight up the same character from the previous games in a different body.
As someone who barely made it through the first one right when it came out and hasn't touched shit since, what in the Kentucky Fried Fuck is the actual plot?

Your long-ass posts explained less than zero, by the way. That said, any point in pirating the PC releases? The size is ridiculous.

The key thing to understand is that fujos buy a lot of merch and do a lot of fan stuff due to their obsessive natures. So it wouldn't surprise me that Square strings them along until the last second and then confirm the obvious and normal thing.

It's the exact same sort of thing that happened with Phoenix Wright. Few people know this, but Capcom literally had matching Phoenix + Edgeworth wedding rings made as merch for the fujoshi demo. Never mind that, say, the anime did the similarly degenerate thing of trying to set up Phoenix and Maya.

Looks more like Jump Fiesta.

You're kidding right? Try going from KH2 to 3. The side games will have a major impact on the plot, regardless if you or sora knows who the hell anybody is.

Considering I was mostly making a rhetorical comment on how Kingdom Hearts is somehow far more autistic than Japan usually is, just the one about it being worth it to get the free copies Cliffy B paid for.

?? im not sure I follow.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 were released on the Epic Store and its a ridiculous 52 gigabytes for both of them.
Ohhh. Yeah I dont know anything about that, im a console gamer. The worst offense for me was not porting it properly to switch.
