My biggest problem with 3 is that 90% of the game is filler.
That much filler is pretty normal for a KH game though. You could cut out Sora or whoever helping all of the Disney worlds, which is the vast majority of each game, and miss nothing important to the plot with maybe a few exceptions like worlds where Donald and Goofy leave him for a bit for whatever reason. Most of the story is told in the intermissions which is honestly the most novel thing about the storytelling format compared to other series.

But the first two games at least had a plot to tell for its runtime even with the filler in-between. KH3 starts and we know our ultimate destination: The big, final fight with the "REAL" Organization XIII. Everything between then and the start is mostly just a time-waster and/or an "extended Sora training arc" with VERY FEW key developments aside from whatever dumb bullshit to pull Aqua out of the realm of darkness and wake up Ventus. And I guess wasting time while we cook up spare bodies for Roxas and Xion.

This was why I don't follow KH. It's confusing and it gets worse midway through
KH, as a whole, is not well written. But KH1, KH2 and the DS spin off had good character moments that made you care.

KH2 especially started out with a really nice bittersweet story of Roxas not wanting to merge back with Sora, trying to fight against that fate until he can't. It's sad, but you also see that Roxas is part of Sora now and you get moments like him shedding tears when saying goodbye to the real version of his friends. Near the end Roxas truly makes peace with it after fighting Sora in one of those anime mind battles, being content with the fact he's a part of Sora now.

Now, given this storyline, what is the one thing you could do to completely fuck it up. You have a plot point about the KH crew giving the Nobodies their own bodies. This is extremely retarded and completely undermines the above, but you can make it worse.

The DS game with the retarded name was a shit game but actually had a good and tragic plot that hinged around a character created to fill the role of keyblade wielder. The fact that she exists to be a tool and nothing more is played for full tragedy, because she forms a friendship with Axel and Roxas and gets to actually be herself. But eventually her role causes her and Roxas to fight and Roxas is forced to kill her, with the kicker being that because of what she was everyone's memories of her will be erased. Roxas promises not to forget but can't fight fate.

Now, if you wanted to completely ruin the above what would you do? You'd somehow bring said character back and restore everyone's memories. The whole fucking plot meant absolutely nothing.

And the kicker is Nomura didn't even want to do either of these but was so badly buck broken by Final Fantasy XIII Versus that he mindlessly catered to fan demand to do both of the above.

My understanding from Nomuras artbook notes and interviews, is kh 3 wasn't really the game Nomura wanted to make but it's the game he NEEDED to make in order to get to where he wanted.

Like remind, the mobile games and kh4 feel like he's actually running on all 4 cylinders.

I'm getting really fucking sick of this mobile shit, put it on consoles and pc. This is some Sega tier decision making.

Alright show of hands, who needs or would like a summary of the mobile games. Because the character in missing link is straight up the same character from the previous games in a different body.

More gameplay is coming out and I'm hyped it's straight up a kh version of Pokemon go with legit combat.

I don't mind but yeah it's frustrating. I do think they are looking into it with ever crisis getting ported to PC though.

Thanks, I just can't TAKE THIS SHIT NO MORE!

I'll have you know Kh has a proud history of phone games! Going all the way back to 2004 with the Verizon Vcast.. oh yeah.

It was so early it's probably the only game to not have square enix involved. I do like how they actually try to make it kinda lore friendly by making it all a trippy dream.

It's lost media and looked like jank but for the time period it was pretty impressive.

Missing-Link seems way deeper than anyone previously thought. No wonder its taken so long just to get to the beta phase.

Vcast and the original Coded are my white whales for this franchise. Those and the mobile games like Chi. Square-Enix has a nasty reputation for abandoning phone games and making no effort to preserve them beyond maybe some cutscenes.

Opera Ominia is the latest casualty in that regard.

If we ever get a KH 3.5 collection, they should make a RE: Missing Link for consoles.

The mobile games seem way more interesting than what we actually have now. I wish they'd make a mainline game exploring that pre-keyblade war world instead of whatever bullshit they're planning with Sora now.

The original coded is impressive, but simple compared to the remake. It's a semi top down remake of the original with added glitch features and the occasional mode change when you get right to it.

The remake did a bang up job adding new features. Sora in that version is basically at his full potential KH 1 combat wise.

It's still the worst filler plot, (It literally only exists to explain the message at the end of KH2) but I appreciate the idea of a DS remake/sequel of KH 1 with innovative new mechanics and a reason for people to play it. Also the endgame was pretty cool. It's the only instance in the series were you can choose to have sora act like a jerk. (As everyone in castle oblivion is a literal NPC you can choose to derail the simulation to speed things up or act like sora) The themes about artificial intelligence and what constitutes life were pretty interesting as well.

As there is a data version of roxas that is insane with rage at revelation that he's just a computer program and can do nothing to save xion.

The one other really eye catching moment in the game is when Sora's heartless becomes sentient and offers a brief glimpse at perhaps a higher intelligence.

Also had one of the worst examples of censorship in a KH game I can remember, that really dragged it down.

Remake

I believe they replaced the words pain or torment in the original with the Hurt. So Sora is repeatedly saying the word Hurt and it sounds so dam corny and stupid. "gotta heal the hurt!"

One of the other more interesting elements of the original was a separate multiplayer function connected to the website that lasted till 2012 where people could hang out and play mini games.

There's a possibility that this is the origin of the chibi art style for rhythm final fantasy. Im not sure.

The killer thing is the current mobile game LOOKS like it belongs on console with how the graphics are but time will tell if we get a port.

Hopefully you can adjust the screen options, it looks a little cluttered.

I rather liked a story of the first game, not too over dramatic despite it literally involving the destruction of the multiverse.

A supposedly wise man falling to his own arrogance and hubris and becoming corrupted by the quest for ultimate knowledge and a young naïve boy caught up in the crossfire slowly wading into young adulthood and having to deal with the complexities and challenges of life outside the small idyllic youth he had lived while still trying to retain some of sense of hope and optimism.

But damn they weren't even subtle about the retcons in the second game.

Gameplay wasn't fantastic but engaging enough for tens of hours of gameplay for each of the admittedly few games I did play. Never got around to the third one.
