literal skill issue
i mean he was trying to learn from me because troonix isnt hard for me so i guess, i run a dual boot and see real usage in it

but why does everyone who touches it go trans jfc

I hope they kill Windows 11 next so we can go back to complaining about Windows 10 getting updates instead
they need to revive windows 7 and just give it security updates like 10 or 11 LTSC

some people daily drive windows 7 and somehow managed to get modern software APIs running on it so its very possible and doable that microjeet could just revive Win7 to get good PR

an rx 6950xt or rtx 3090 has native win7 drivers and those are still really capable cards

That would require admitting they fucked up. You’re better off hoping someone releases the source code for Windows 7 and starts maintaining it independently

its already being done with classic 7 by modders

wine should realistically give you windows 7 level functionality as well, so you could skin Linux Mint up to look just like windows 7 and it will work almost natively like win 7

@Slav Power I might be the only one that listens to you and read your post on GDID, all you have to do is run the DeGDID script and use protect and decoy and it breaks any and all GDID based tracking.

I have no clue why people don't just care more about pure functionality rather than idealism. Linux works better for something and worse for others as does Windows

I can't even login to my microsoft account through browser so I think DeGDID worked, I can log in to Halo MCC on Troonix so that makes me wonder how the fuck they are tracking troonix PCs because clearly GDID is required for Microjeet services and if removing and blocking it breaks those they must be tracking linux users if they allow linux

The GDID moral panic is overblown. The court reporting didn't go into the technicalities of how it tied together with the telemetry data but the way I read it is this: when the telemetry data is sent, it's tied to the GDID. This GDID is local, it's randomized, and Microsoft doesn't have the means to remotely de-anonymize you based on it. It's also why it'll generate without a Microsoft account, it's all a part of the telemetry system that originated in 2015. But in that specific court case, the moron that got got had negative opsec. He ran unhardened Windows, did all of his personal shit on the same Windows machine he used to ransom businesses, and he used Edge, which is how his browsing history landed in the telemetry data. Most importantly, the only reason he got de-anonymized by that GDID was because the feds already had physical access to his machine.

Of course, all of that got lost in the dozens upon dozens of sensationalist articles that only regurgitated themselves and boiled everything down to "Microsoft spies on you with GDID and you can't turn it off" headlines. Then the lowest common denominators all read that, repeated it all across the web, yet no one asked themselves how Microsoft spies on you with GDID and how it works. A huge moral panic happened, everyone started jumping to making "GDID removal tools" without understanding what the fuck they're even doing, everyone running those scripts, and of course, yelling down anyone trying to bring in any sense and logic into the story as corporate bootlickers, or pajeet shiteaters since it's 2026 so if Indians are in any way related it's the go-to insult.

So, if you do harden your installation, you'll send very little telemetry to Microsoft, and you can verify what it is that you're sending to them, so even if you ended up getting a knock on the door and the cops got deanonymized telemetry data from Microsoft via the GDID cross-reference, it wouldn't be as useful as in that court case. Not to mention you're not interesting to the government for them to bother. Running a meme script like WinUtil already puts you way ahead most people, including Stokes.

What really pisses me off about shit like the GDID story is just how much it exposes to me that people don't understand shit, they only want to pretend like they care about something, but don't actually believe in anything. GDID was introduced with Windows 10, as a part of Nadella's shift to keep shareholders happy. Fire QA, insert telemetry, mass-gather data to use for development. This resulted in the general decline of UI/UX since nothing will beat proper QA and the types of psychotests Microsoft used to do when developing Windows, and back then in 2015 I've seen the same privacy moral panic that I see today. Yet today people are saying that "Windows 10 was the last good Windows and I'll never move to 11", repeating the age old cycle. And of course, back in 2015 people also declared that Win10 was the final straw and that they'd move to Linux. Fast forward to 2026, Linux is still a niche within a niche. But only in 2026, when a huge story about FBI cracking down on one of the most incompetent cybercriminals you could imagine did people start to suddenly care about GDID, of course without understanding how it got used by the feds to get Stokes. Well, Stokes was already caught and all that the GDID did was getting his telemetry data to further cement his sentence.

That's why I'm mad, that's why I complain. I remember a lot, cut through all of this news cycle bullshit, and see that everyone is a facetious hypocrite that only wants to LARP as a rebel, all while suffering from Dunning-Kruger and acting like they know shit. Then I'm the insane one for asking questions of how and why and trying to make myself and others more informed about the shit that happens in tech. But that's apparently not allowed, which is antithetical to what computers and technology is about, and it infuriates me to no end.

I think making people panic less about windows and showing them they have options is a lot more realistic than forcing people into Troonix, I came here for info on the truth about GDID and learned I had options. FXFloorboard for Linux stopped working because the ABIs broke so I had to run Windows in a VM and use USB passthrough to use it. Like at that point I should just use windows and I put in the effort to daily drive Linux

I found out that because I personally debloated 11 LTSC with Tiny11, I had no GDID on my machine anyways so I already know what I am doing better than Peter Stokes

There are some really intuitive distros like Nobara, Bazzite, CachyOS, or Garuda but even then they require an understanding of things like sandboxing and dependencies and package managers to get basic software working

Flathub is absolute fucking Jank and the AUR gets fucked with malware

The SNAP store makes shit just work by bundling all the dependencies but oh no that is bad for ideological reasons despite being a step towards beginner friendly functionality and not having ABIs break at random

Like some fluidsynth package had its dependencies break on Garuda for an update, an absolute linux beginner would not know how to fix that. I did, but even then its fucking tedious and should not be happening on a totally fresh install for a beginner friendly distro

I think Linux is best as a secondary OS for old games that are finnicky and do not cooperate on modern windows like Prototype or other old games that are not on GoG

It's something I've been thinking about as well. People love to moral panic about Microsoft 24/7, or LG TV's spying on you, or whatever else hits the news cycle. One, I hate it because people trivialize things that should be discussed in-depth so that you know what's the problem instead of generalizing the issue to a brand name. Two, it's insanely counterproductive because the entire Internet will kvetch about the newest news cycle thing, but what alternatives are there? Is anyone talking about what other choices you have? No! Everyone just wants to complain instead of promoting alternatives. And if there are no alternatives, or the alternatives suck, why is no one stepping up to make alternatives that are good? Oh, that takes effort! And people only want to complain! It's especially evident with how many vocal Windows haters will still use Windows because they find switching to Linux inconvenient.

It's all the same elements at play as in Gamergate. People only want to complain and argue, and no one wants to put in the effort to actually make a difference for the better. That's the most frustrating part about it all. Why do I use Windows? There is no better alternative than to use it, and I try to make it better wherever I can so that I have a good experience with computers. That's what it should be about, not a tribalistic war fueled by sensational headlines.

Is it possible to make VoLTE calls on a Windows tablet with a 4G modem?
Unlikely. IIRC shit like VoLTE is covered in all sorts of licensing where the SoC has to have support for it, and the built-in modems tend to only have the shit needed for an Internet connection.
Though you can use that modem for receiving and sending SMS messages, but I needed to source an obscure program to be able to do so. There used to be a Microsoft-made program for it, but it's all sorts of fucky and abandoned. It's pretty stupid not to have this functionality built into Windows 11 with all the other SIM related stuff it already has. Every standalone LTE modem/router you'll buy will have an SMS section to do shit like add data to your account.

You can remove the PIN from your SIM card so that you don't have to enter it all the time but you can't send/receive SMS without a third party program. The classic Windows experience.

It ain't happening.

At one point they will push Windows 12 and it would be completely unusable.

Unless if say, someone on Trump's side gets all of the jeets fired and puts both it and Google under DARPA control. And then try potentially taking ICANN off from the UN. Less UN control means less jeets.

Windows 11 26H2 has been released.
Lazy summary, but basically:
-Some AI features
-Optimizations and fixes
-Shit nobody cares about
-More taskbar customization.
Folks say it's stable, but i wouldn't update yet. This screenshot below is from their X article on the update. There also seems to be a new context menu

Windows 11 versions are a huge mess. If you installed the September 2026 update for 24H2 on LTSC, you can enable the taskbar repositioning with ViVeTool for example. Pretty sure everything they've written out here is getting backported into 24H2, though I don't know if they'll keep doing so with 24H2 going EOL on GAC. Then again, there's so little difference between 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2 that they might as well. Preview update KB5124010, the one that introduced these features, is available for 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2.

Feature updates on LTSC used to be every 2-3 years, so it may or may not be happening soon.
LTSC 2027 is coming, and it'll be based on 27H2 once that's out. But for whatever reason Microsoft keeps shipping smaller feature updates like the ability to move the taskbar in Patch Tuesday updates, usually disabled by default, so the version numbers don't make that much sense really.

What's the point of LTSC if Microsoft will keep cramming in new features? I thought it's all about stability.
The thing that's most likely to fuck your shit up are the big updates like the current jump to 26H2, and LTSC 2024 is stuck on 24H2 with a longer update cadence. That, and having less stuff installed by default, which is more due to LTSC being based on Enterprise editions, are the only real benefits of LTSC. You can get to roughly the same spot by using MAS to switch to an Enterprise version, running WinUtil and doing a few manual tweaks afterwards if you want to stay on the GAC release cycle.

Though like I said, all the new features added in Patch Tuesdays are off by default, so they're still being careful about pushing those out. Look at the newest preview update and the stuff that'll be dropping on October 13th globally, the gradual rollout has all the new features they'll be testing in production but it'll be on an A/B basis, and I assume that all Enterprise installs are opt-out of the A/B testing by default, but you can force opt-in with ViVeTool of course. The normal rollout are all the small patches that you'd expect.

It's worth reminding that Microsoft keeps track of current issues, so that you too can be a tech journalist and read their official announcements and be angry about Microsoft while cutting out the middleman!

also lol

They finally got the memo and you won't have to use PowerToys to rebind Shift+Win+F23 to something usable
Awesome, Windows 11 updated to 25h2 at midnight when my agent was working. Gotta love winblows doing shit in the background
Next time, go to Settings > Windows Update and pause the updates for two days. And if you really need steady uptime, use Linux.

ReviOS broke my compositor and my 21:9 monitor would not display games last time I tried it, but it works on LTSC

So I debloated LTSC the normal way and get to choose when and how I want my updates

I reccomend this tool if you don't want to disable automatic updates in Group Policy editor
