That episode was ok. The border patrol jokes and Canadian Flanders was pretty funny.
especially given the hindsight regarding canada and migrants. You could NOT make a joke like that today without the tweeter mobs reeeing at you to be cancelled for it.

To me, it brings up the question, "What happened to Allison?" Allison referring to the character Winona Ryder guest starred as in Lisa's Rival, who was portrayed as Lisa's intellectual equal, even being bullied for it. But in later appearances, she more or less takes the same fair weather friend role as Janey. Obviously, this is because she was created for a one-off celebrity appearance (after all, this was still in the Golden Age, where celebrities were given original characters to voice, rather than playing themselves to be lionized like what Zombie Simpsons does), but it does beg the question of why they keep her around as a minor character rather than memory-holing her like most of the other celeb-voiced characters.
For better or for worse, I think Allison and her father got dumber after Lisa's Rival episode, or something happened that got her out of his house. Like, you'd think that she'd one up Lisa in everything after that episode as a constant reminder that there's always someone better waiting along the line, but Allison just turns into another one of the kids. I don't agree with everything that Lisa does, but up until the marking point of Zombification, Lisa's stands had some good reasons to them, like calling out bullshit on a marching band contest that won unfairly or when gender segregation happened in school, the females were all taught yesteryear's feminazi trans "objective facts" shit. Honestly, Allison in her debut episode also had some very off vibes when she came along. While I'm sure she's worked hard to get herself to skip that grade, Bart definitely probably missed something when he was out gathering dirt on her. She was way too perfect, even in comparison to Lisa in that episode.

It was also speculated by some of the more hardcore fans that Allison was Ruth Powers's long lost or estranged daughter because of how similar they look. I think the writers were trying to do something with this, but they probably left before they could.

I sure like the cut of your gibberish.

Maybe she bent her wookie?

I can actually totally see it.

Laura Powers looks like she could be Allison's older sister.

There could also be the possibility that Groening didn't like having someone smarter than Lisa given that Lisa is Groening's favorite character and didn't want her to be one-upped, it would certainly explain why Lisa is always portrayed as in the right in the zombie seasons.

Actually...

Not to mention it was implied as early as Season 5 that Homer was indeed in the Army, once when they mentioned him volunteering for medical experiments that resulted in baldness, giddiness, and loss of equilibrium.

And again in Season 6 when they invite his Drill Instructor to dinner.

In fact, in that episode the drill instructor says Homer left the Army one month before his contract was up.

As hard as it is to believe it looks like Homer was actually a soldier competent enough to get through the majority of his tour.
I mean if we're taking the show as being somewhat based in reality we have to hand Homer significant props for passing NASA's qualifications to be an Astronaut. Yes a sobered Barney Gumble easily outshined Homer when they competed for the role but NASA still decided that Homer had the mental and physical faculties to be shot into space. They could have easily failed both of them and either picked a more qualified American for the honor or just cancelled the average joe astronaut ratings stunt.

so kinda going off topic with this but should ls mark be considered a cow? i say no...sure he's a grown man talking about cartoons but they're a dime a dozen these days. and he does make legit god points about the medium and like you said he put a lot of time and effort into ranking every single episode of the simpsons. plus as far as i know hes not a politisperg on social media hell he said in the video as an Australian, American politics mean nothing to him.
Lolcow? No
Sperg? Yes

Nothing wrong anyway, it definitely does sound insane or autistic to review cartoons or games or watching them, but we all are spergs here.

Spergs are some of my favourite people. Unlike cows they actually produce content that isn't only good for humour's sake.

The reason why Homer was considered for NASA at all was to boost ratings and they had to pick someone who wasn't a handsome Mathlete.

Yeah the astronaut who wasn't Buzz Aldrin, Race Banyon, was even asking over the radio for "permission to sedate cargo ahead of schedule". Homer was just a prop they were hauling up there for ratings, he was going to show up on camera for a few minutes then they would have knocked him out, probably with a shoe to the head because for some reason that kept working, for the rest of the mission. Of course they didn't sedate him long enough and didn't realize that Homer had smuggled a bag of ruffled potato chips onboard....

Also I did the math for how much it would have cost to send Homer into space. I found two amounts for how much it cost to put pay load into space, either $10,000 per pound, or $18,500 per kilogram. Homer weighs 239 pounds so 239 x 10,000= $2,390,000. If we go by kilograms then Homer weighs 108.4 kilograms which means he would cost $2,005,400. NASA would have spent at least two million dollars putting Homer into space for their publicity stunt in addition to whatever it cost to train him and whatever they spent on the ant farm he destroyed.

Not to mention the shuttle door he damaged to the point where it had to be jammed shut with a carbon rod.

And they never did make it clear if the stunt had worked and piqued more national interest in the space program. For all we know NASA just wasted millions of dollars to send a dumbass into space to break their shit for no discernable gain.
Still, that's gotta look great on Homer's resume.

Dyk that botz the babysitter got away in her first appearance because she was originally going to be a recurring vilian on the show? Constantly scheming ways to get revenge on Bart and Lisa? But they never came up any plans to reuse her and sideshow Bob ultimately ended up taking her role. Anyway semi unrelated clip that's becoming something of a meme
