To a more telemetry bloated, anti-customization OS that just happens to be 'better' to use for modern programs as consequence to the previous versions being abandoned by developers. It's still worse.
It's not just about vidya, it's about everything generally becoming worse, ending up infecting the breads and circuses. People lash out because they legitimately can't end up avoiding this shit totally even in what's supposed to be 'escapism'. Even still, positive discussion does still exist, negativity bias works both ways, it can make you blind to that.
Because saying the same shit against the thread topic over and over doesn't earn you any favors, you're in a thread called 'steam is so shit now'. If you've been carrying this same thing on in the other similar vidya threads there's no wonder you get 'screeched' at, it's annoying. There are several different threads that range from more neutral to more positive discussion. There's even a recently enough active one about the deck, something I listed as something actually good Valve has made recently, and I know you've posted there so you do in fact know it exists. If you want to try and push discussion in the direction you want, make threads for that. You're a capable poster, I'm not trying to shit on you, I know that negative discussion can be overbearing in it's numerousity, all the same people need to vent their frustrations just as much as they should be sharing more positive thinking, I just don't see how defending the floundering practices of a declining industry really fits that window.
Counterargument: There is no good reason why you should be forced to upgrade to the "freshest" operating system to install a video game from 2007. Nigger, Valve doesn't even update their games anymore (Dota 2 and CSGO are not games). What's the point of forcing upgrades to windows 10 at the end of its life cycle when microshaft itself expects people to gobble up the windows 11 slop now? Literally what is the reason? Steam has been running on win7 for years at this point, and Valve has literally infinite money from their unbreakable monopoly that they have, by some miracle, managed to not colossally abuse by completely fucking over their customers rights during this long reign. They can afford to support win7.
You can always use Linux. Valve took major effort to make gaming on Linux as viable as possible, and in some cases it's easier and better than on Windows.
So not sucking Microsoft dick by using their operating system still, while ignoring Valve has done the most out of any video game company to actually make a non-Microsoft OS viable for gaming, even those not using Steam, through Mesa contributions, RADV, etc. The irony is palpable.

It doesn't, SteamOS is based on Debian and the second most popular OS on steam is Arch. I've used it on Manjaro without any problems from what I remember. Even so there's plenty of distros based on Ubuntu so you don't have to use Ubuntu directly, I'm on Mint and it works fine.
It is, the store will blackscreen when I tab out and game settings will sometimes break entirely even through restarts, not to mention it's laggy as fuck. It worked so much better before.
