I think the number of troon runners at GDQ was one of those things that always got joked about to the point it became taken as fact. The actual number of troon runners has always been about as low as the actual percentage of troons you'd run into in the wild. That's one of the reasons why the pronoun tags was seen as useless, because 99% of them are exactly what you'd expect.

One reason I think it felt way more prevalent was Proto being a host/staff member/whatever his official title was. Troon runs were also usually noteworthy for how bad the runs were, with many suspecting the runner only got accepted for diversity reasons. I also think troon attendees were treated as runners, especially since they were usually the ones complaining about discrimination and other nonsense by hotel staff/anyone in the state. There's also the "trans rights" donators and that one runner who infamously brought up his troon partner out of nowhere.

But yeah, I'd place most of the blame on Proto because he really was so annoying/vocal that he basically counted as 20 people, and a lot of the troons that followed him were also pretty loud on social media. I admit I've barely seen/listened to any of this GDQ, but I can only recall 3 troons, and only 1 of them was running, the other was a commenter, and I think there was another on someone's couch.

*Edit* Oh yeah, and the fact that there are normally so few women also made the troons seem more prominent
Wasn't the all female gdq plagued by "women" with very few actual women in attendance?

Also, fuck proto for being an obnoxious unlikeable sped that fun killed everything he touched including his own dick.

Yeah, Frame Fatales is overwhelmingly made up of troons. There's a post breaking down just how severe it is in Cosmo's thread, though it might be more appropriate here. Cracks me up, really, in an effort to include more women, the trannies have pushed out the true and honest women and somehow the irony is lost on them.

I usually tune into GDQs just to see games I like being broken and not just the cringey sideshows, but these digital events have stripped the event of any remaining charm it had. Has anything noteworthy even happened?

Here's /v/'s rank list.

I remember this one. I want to rewatch the cringe. Do you have a link?

I'm surprised they rated Sailor Moon so high when the narrator is constantly smacking his lips into the microphone.

Also, I'm vaguely curious how certain games get equal numbers of Ss and Fs like Super Mario 3D Land and Stepmania.

Any absolute disasters this time around? Failed runs, runner meltdowns, etc?
Super Mario 3D Land was the cringiest run I caught. The runner was fine from what I saw, but one of the commenters was beyond annoying. He sounded like a strictly homeschooled teenage girl who was just allowed at her first sleepover and had a bunch of candy. I'm guessing that's why it had such wild ratings.

The other run I caught that was unwatchable was Rite, which I'm surprised got rated so highly. The run seemed fine, but the runner had no commentary and didn't really speak English, so it was mostly silent in the beginning, then the host kept asking questions to try and salvage the run. Technically speaking, it was probably fine, but trying to force commentary with someone who barely speaks English just made it painful to watch, and the game itself seemed kinda generic.

It wasn't *that* bad, but the Slay the Spire run also had an annoying commenter who was trying to backseat things, seemingly unaware of the fact that he was on a few second delay so most of his suggestions were coming after the runner had already made a choice. And the run itself was fine so the advice clearly wasn't needed. The other commenter was fine and actually helpful in explaining things. There was something annoying with the Stardew run, but for the life of me I can't remember what was so bad about it.

The most impressive run I caught was the MGS2 Substance run. The title wasn't really accurate, it was only the tanker section, but the runner did it blindfolded. Commentary was fine and to the point and I think skill challenges like that are interesting. It was also around 10-15 minutes, so pretty easy to digest. There was a blindfolded Sekiro run that I only caught the end of which seemed pretty good as well. Given the length/greater difficulty, it was probably more impressive then the MGS2 one.

What was your highlights this year?
What was your favorite run?
What was your favorite display of autism?

I usually watch games i know/love and see if its any good plus any absolute shitshows. Surprised no ones recommended a real shitshow this time round

I think the distance shows kinda ruined the shitshow. A good shitshow usually involves some kind of cringe from the couch/audience. A lot of runners are either solo, or if there is a digital couch, they usually try not to talk over one another because of Discord awkwardness, so the interactions are fairly stale.I think it also affects the overall energy of the participants, so you're less likely to get an outburst. Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of bad runs, but they're not the funny kind of bad, just the boring/bland kind of bad.

I just caught up with this year's agdq. Pretty boring, no hype. And the view counts reflect the speed run fatigue. Past agdqs would have some million view runs but none this year. The most is 350000 for sekiro blindfolded.

Most them average about 20000-50000 depending on game with the shitty Indie games or games nobody heard of being sub 10000.

The bigger viewerships go to metal gear solid, the last run (100000), casio mario world some kind of rom hack (100000), resident evil village (115000), pokemin crystal 130000).

My favorite run is judge dredd because fuck criminal scum and fuck BLM. How did a game about playing a law and order enforcer make it pass the AGDQ trannies considering they virtue signal at the start of every video with #blacklivesmatter?

I think speed running is on a downward trend. There's only so many retro games you can speed run before you end up playing the same old popular ones (Super Metroid etc) and except a few exceptions, speedrunning modern games is pretty boring.

Compare that with the fighting game community that has more hype, excitement and prize rewards. The FGC also ironically enough has more biological women, more non-whites, and fewer self destructive troons.

I agree, the phenomenon has been sucked dry. I'm not even gonna blame it on trannies, there's only so many times you can watch someone play Mario really fast and be excited for the next guy to maybe do the exact same thing 1 frame faster. When I was still actively watching GDQs I looked for games I know in the schedule, but I've seen all of them done multiple times over now, when the commentary was actually good. Then, as they runs became worse, I watched for the drama, but that got sterilized and online-only did the rest.

If I'm still in the mood for something speedrunning related, at this point I'd rather rewatch a good run from a few years ago than watch a new one with a 99% chance of worse commentary. If any new tricks have been discovered there's a good chance I can just watch a Youtube video essay set to lofi hip hop about it. If, for some reason, I want to watch live speedrun events there's better ones hosted by smaller communities all the time. The only entertaining thing about GDQ is to watch them blatantly donate money to themselves to beat last year's total.

Most speedruns are like watching paint dry or require intimate knowledge of the game to see how impressive it is. No one really cares about watching someone clip through walls and skip 90% of the game. There's a reason Super Metroid was always the big finish. It doesn't hurt that oatsandgoats isn't a total autistic tranny sperg.

The speed run commentary has went from funny, informative or interesting to simply boring.

Part of it is self censorship (not wanting to offend anyone), part of is the over serious delivery (it lost the casual chit chat of old AGDQs like a game between old buddies), and do casual watchers really care about the technicals?

I think the only intricately technical thing I found interesting enough to ever watch through was the Ocarina of Time run by ZFG a few years back when he completely broke the game in half. It helped that he and the people cocommentating would barely let the donation reader get a word in edgewise.

I agree 100%. Someone spending five minutes just crouch jumping on a fire extinguisher in a closet to go out of bounds, at the start of every single level, is so fucking boring. Sure, the game can be completed in 43 minutes that way but I don't care because 35 of those minutes will be spent jumping on a fire extinguisher while looking straight at a wall. It is not interesting.

Yes! I finally found it. The moment I was thinking of was when the runner just randomly mentioned it was the two year anniversary of his gf's transition in the middle of a Fallout speedrun. It was cringy as fuck. Progamingwithed was the dude's name.

I'm about to drop something shocking, like you guys totally aren't going to believe this, but Ed goes by Tiffany now.

I'm specifically looking for that video but I can't find it anywhere. is it archived here?

Is games done quick trying to be funny?

In the newest set of videos titled "unapologetically black and fast" uploaded to their YouTube, it's jumping on the black empowerment bandwagon, as if speedrunning is systemically oppressing blacks.

But in the first few seconds of the videos, it promotes #stopasianhate while saying

"if you or someone you know has been a victim of AAPI racism please...."

I wonder if they take black on Asian crime seriously or it's just swept under the carpet.

Some poor old Asian lady too a fucking baseball bat to the head by a jogger recently: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/joggers-being-raycist-against-asians-megathread.105373/post-11168755

Side note, is the host "pleasantlytwstd" a tranny? It's voice sounds suspiciously deep, as if it's trying to hide their natural deep male voice.
