I'm really curious about how the users and mods are handling the Israel/Palestine conflict. Specifically, I'm curious about which side is getting banhammered, the ones who want to gas the Jews or the ones who want to glass the Muslims.
 
Man, Spacebattles...I used to be there for a brief time.

Can't say I'm entirely surprised at what it's turned into, which just makes me happier I'm no longer an active member there.

They are old enough of a website that they used to suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome during the 2001-2009 period, which was a preview of how insane things would become later on. However as with most websites and communities like that this was much, MUCH weaker and less rabid than what would eventually come after 2016.

Was a member of Spacebattles (might still be, I dunno). Was involved in the "Muh Nazis PM" there.

I'm guessing a number of more right-leaning SB members joined here back in 2018 after the PM nonsense.

The "Rants" section on Questionable Questing should have some stuff on spacecows.
 
I was a fairly infamous poster on there for many, many years.

I tortured them with so many autistic longposts on economics and politsci, they took to calling me TL;DR.

A lot of the stuff I posted on there ten years ago seems strangely prescient now. I was bringing up net zero, degrowth, and the “circular economy” long, long before the current backlash against Klaus Schwab and the WEF for wanting to shove us in pods and feed us cricket powder. After years and years of people giving me shit for it, telling me “degrowth/depopulation will never happen, AI will never take our jobs, blah blah blah”, it looks like our leaders are interested in degrowth and depopulation and replacing us with AI after all.

About a year before GamerGate, I posted in an Anita Sarkeesian thread criticizing her viewpoints expressed in her Feminist Frequency series. Boy, that turned out to be a mistake. Athene and all their SJW fuckhead friends decided to descend on the thread and turn it into a good ol’ commie struggle session. I had never actually encountered SJWs before so I had no idea why the fuck so many people were assaulting me with raw gibberish about intersectionality and the horrible oppression and micro-aggressions experienced by people living incredibly comfortable lives in wealthy first-world countries. I had no idea our colleges were so busy teaching my generation pure bullshit.

I was so tired of their constant rules-lawyering over every little thing, I started and briefly ran my own splinter forum of SB called Digital Wild West, with a bit more of a libertarian, anything-goes bent, kind of like on here.

Actually, as a matter of fact, most of the SB splinter boards only exist because SB’s mods are horrible, power-tripping, cliquish cunts who ban good posters and lock interesting threads.

SB was originally owned and operated by Johan Alm, but ownership was transferred to Kier Darby (the guy behind XenForo) at some point. He migrated the board from vBulletin to XF and used it as an XF testbed for many years before moving on when he realized the user base were mostly autistic mutants. Xon, one of the main admin figures on SB (and probably the only guy there who knows jack shit about running the backend of a website) is also a major XF addon coder.

The atmosphere of SB is very prudish, very MovieBob-ish center-left midwit autist. NATO is good. The EU are good. The UN is good. Drink your corn syrup. You know the drill.

The board has generally played host to a lot of fictional power level debates, kind of like OBD. You know how that goes. “Who would win in a fight, Superman or Goku?” and “My favorite book/game/movie’s spaceships would beat your favorite book/game/movie’s spaceships in a fight”. That kind of nerd shit.

SV is for people who think SB are too conservative, too imperialist, et cetera, and is populated almost entirely by SocJus retards with an autistic lawyer fetish, and people who think Anita Sarkeesian was right about how horribly sexist video games are.

This freak of nature was a longtime member. He was mostly remembered for that one time he broke his dick and then asked the board for help, and they were like “put Flex Seal on it” or some shit.

I don’t think that’s the same guy, or even a relative. Could be wrong, though. There isn’t much info out there on the SB guy that I know of, but I never really looked him up.

SB used to be mostly US/UK users back in the day and a fair bit more conservative. Someone said late 2000s SB was in full Bush Derangement Syndrome mode, and that may have been true, but early 2000s SB, post-9/11, had a lot of people unironically commenting about wanting to turn the Middle East into a crater filled with glass. The early 2000s SB was way more conservative, way less moderated, et cetera. It went through a period where it had something of an SJW infection when the angry tranny janny Athene (it used to be Thanatos, lol) was one of the main supermods, but because so many people complained (Athene would bait people into saying infractable things and then have one of their other fuck-buddies infract them), they shitcanned Athene in a hilarious spectacle that led to the birth of SV. Read the whole thread for a laugh.

A large portion of SB’s current user base is from places like Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese expats living abroad, et cetera, and they have a very low tolerance for gallows humor or typical American irreverence. In true midwit fashion, it just goes right over their heads. I caught many temp-bans on there just because I made some remark now and then that someone found upsetting, like describing how I’d ambush a burglar, or making some lighthearted quip about a murder in the news or something. Basically, all of the standard responses to an article on A&N over here would get you banned over there. You can’t say retard, faggot, or nigger, but that’s basically most places on the internet these days. Basically, they have a strange aversion to casual cruelty in writing and are weirdly straitlaced. IIRC, they actually have a rule about “No internet tough guy-ism”, so no, you can’t comment about feeding pedos to wood chippers or beating a rapist’s brains out with a tire iron or anything cathartic like that.

There are a lot of Jews on SB. It doesn’t matter if you’re right-wing and hate George Soros, or if you’re left-wing and think Israel is an evil, genocidal apartheid state. Some Jew on there will chase you down, shouting goyim this and goyim that, and they’ll hound you off the board or sic the mods on you.

Maintaining the kind of mental filter that they demand of people feels almost inhuman. It goes beyond wanting an SFW board. SB is populated by the weird toga-wearing people at the end of HG Wells’ Things to Come. I never really got along with them, because of how sanitized their speech is.

The mods on SB habitually over-moderate and they are partial, fixating on “problem posters” like small-town cops. One time, I compared them to the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld, to their faces. That really ticked them off.

Do you remember adjacent sites like 3d gladiators and colonial fleets? The places where people made all the 3d animations that were used to prove star trek/wars was better than star wars/trek in a battle?

It has changed. Go through any thread that's more than a couple of years old, count the pages you can get through without seeing a banned user. It's a left-wing site because it's actively been purging right-wing users for the past years.

Never really heard of them. I was kind of into making my own ships and stuff. I used to do multi-million-block ship builds in StarMade and the like, and I occasionally goofed around in Max and Blender. I should really get back into 3D modeling.

There was a fair amount of ex and current military guys if remember correctly, at least people who pretended to be military anyway. The whole site was pretty gay honestly, I mean how many times do you need to discuss who'd win in a fight, the Xeelee or some Doctor Who shit. That's basically all I remember the site being, Top Trumps for autists.
