For all freaks, weirdos, idiots, and general reprobates found on Spacebattles and Sufficient Velocity. For those who don't know, Space Battles is among the oldest websites on the upper-case I Internet. It is dedicated to power-scaling armies found in sci-fi novels, films, space operas, anime, etc; As such, you might expect there's a fair bit of lowcow sludge in this crevice.

Share your personal experiences with them here.

Oh my god it's about time SB got its own thread. I briefly posted there from 2015-16 and its politics subforum was a goldmine. Imagine an entire community full of Moviebobs.

I don't go to SpaceBattles but I find a cross-correlation between SB and TVTropes, another website based on cataloguing pop culture via tropes. Also, SB's Owl House thread has needlessly too fucking much pages.

What I remember about Sufficient Velocity is that it has a very well-established and run kangaroo court it calls the "Administrative Tribunal" made up of elected members of the community. And that it split off from Spacebattles due to some pointless drama that happened years ago. I'll put aside their political views and talk about the kangaroo court system here.

The aforementioned kangaroo court

I mean, look at this crap, all to debate getting a warning (not even a ban) from a thread.

The response from the staff.

Datcord, a basement jannie with nothing better to do in his life than play e-lawyer on an Internet forum, prosecutes the case.

"Beg for mercy, bitch."

An entire goddamn essay on why breaking the rules of the hivemind is not acceptable.

More kangaroo court bullshit (archive heavy)

As you can expect from a site run by lawyers, they actually use their bogus "case law" as "precedent". There are way too many fucking cases to cover, so I'll give you the goldmines, the ones they consider "precedential". The cases are all captioned Staff and <Insert Name of Unlucky Bastard Who Broke The Rules>, because it isn't enough to have a kangaroo court without putting the defendant on the spot, right?
Oh, and there's also an entire category of thread where members of the site can point and laugh at folks who get banned for going against the hivemind. That's what happens when your site is founded by Canadian, American and/or Australian lawyers, I guess, who wanted to "right the injustices" that had occurred on Spacebattles. Apparently someone named "Athene" was responsible for that.

I do remember hearing that Sufficent Velocity was literally created by Space Battles users who were mad that SB wasn't far left enough and that is why they are even more insane.

I also remember something about a drama in SB in 2018 around some sort of "nazi PM chain" where they used it as a reichstag fire to remove the few mods that weren't massively far left already and the people who were banned in that ended up making their own forum, which apparently proceeded to go nowhere after about a year because of infighting after the 2020 election between right wingers who wanted to "trust the plan system" an just vote harder next time in addition to condemning Jan 6th, people who believed voter fraud and didn't want to abandon Trump, and blackpilled "it's over the west has fallen" types.

I believe that forum was called The Sietch. I would need to look that up, though.

Yep it was. I also remember it changed owners after a little while but also no specifics other than the original owner was a literal government employee which might have explained the reluctance to allow people talking shit about his boss.

Shouldn't the Original Poster provide some info, first?
And have an opening like "For those who don't know, Space Battles is among the oldest websites on the upper-case I Internet. It is dedicated to power-scaling armies found in sci-fi novels, films, space operas, anime, etc; As such, you might expect there's a fair bit of lowcow sludge in this crevice." you know?

An OP would be nice, but it would take some time to write. Here are some basic facts, I guess (and keep in mind I'm not a primary source; I got this information off the Internet - in chronological order).

SpaceBattles (SB), circa 1998
The original. Founded in 1998, or something like that. Talks about sci-fi and worldbuilding, and has interactive quests (choose-your-own-adventure stories). As it is older than SA (but only by a year), expect many a lolcow. If you see someone with a pre-2000 join date, they are basically to be treated as deities (assuming they haven't been banned). Also became a lefty shithole. Many banned users on SB went to QQ or SV (see below).

Questionable Questing (QQ) (c. 2012 - 2013)
Founded sometime in 2013 (either January or February), but may have been founded as early as 2012. A smut-filled SB fork for people who are too NSFW for SB or SV (see below). Most of what you see is smut, although you need an account to see the NSFW stuff at all (they do have SFW quests and stories, though). Has almost no rules except "don't post anything illegal" and "don't post about politics" so there's plenty of quests from sick creeps there and banned users on SV sometimes post there to bitch about SV or post their shit. Despite its creep factor, it's the only one of the four sites on this list that isn't disgustingly in-your-face political (by virtue of disallowing politics entirely).

Sufficient Velocity (SV) (April 21, 2014)
Founded April 21, 2014 over the concerns of a user named Athene being banned. Several banned users on SB founded SV, two of whom were lawyers (Lord Squishy and Ford Prefect). They also ended up being a lefty shithole, except they have a kangaroo court (because it was set up by lawyers). They have rules which ban rageposting against fictional characters, an exhaustive amount of fake "legislation" (no, seriously, look at the Administrative Tribunal) and they're your typical lefty shithole.

The Sietch (TS)
Founded in 2018. Check the post above. tl;dr it's a dead lefty righty shithole.

That's all I can think of. Someone with more expertise could chip in and make a much better OP.

Correction: it's a dead rightist shithole. It didn't survive right wing infighting after 2020 and unlike QQ and SV the right wingers who went there didn't manage to attract authors and audience,

There are a couple of particular individuals I feel could be worthy of more note, specifically Eagle109. They often seem to be the big one posting nearly daily all the pro-DNC news. I am not sure they in particular could be considered a lolcow, more than a part of the general idiocy of the site.
As a general thing I noted, their political board, Whitehall, tends to be the worst of the site, with the other sections being standard nerd stuff, albeit one that has a larger focus on who would win.

Could've sworn this collection of forums already had a thread, but I can't seem to find it so I guess I just hallucinated it. Good that one's been made, but I agree with the sentiment the OP should be rewritten to include more info and stuff (and be an actual thread OP, basically).

Was SpaceBattles always this left or was it some internal conversion
