Pointing out the hypocrisy is one thing, but I saw Kiwis absolutely *livid* about this shit, before wordlessly retreating back into a thread to laugh at Indians getting hit by a train, or ICE gunning down Ernesto because he didn't move fast enough.
You have a good point. Those totally can't be different posters with different opinions in different threads. It must all be one guy with inconsistent opinions.
I love stickers like that. They're so impotent in whatever goal its trying to achieve. It has the same weight as screaming "FUCK CANCER!" Like, yeah, okay, now what? Did you get that off your chest?
So this is a slightly concerning situation I've uncovered. I saw this post on /r/privacy by a user named "PoeticPeacenik":
So just from the post alone, there's a few odd details in this post that made me want to investigate further. Needless to say, OP's post history is a fucking rabbithole:
Okay, so we've established a couple of things so far: She has FASD, she lives with her adoptive mother who she feels infantilize her and doesn't let her be more independent. Probably an annoying situation, but nothing too crazy. That's when I discovered this post, in /r/AskParents.
So it turns out this is a woman in her thirties who isn't allowed to leave the house on her own and who's mother apparently thinks she has legal guardianship over her. OP knows this isn't the case, but... still goes along with it?
OP's mother apparently doesn't even let them walk around a grocery store or walk up the neighborhood by themselves:
At first, I was somewhat horrified and highly sympathetic. But that started to wane a bit when I realized that OP has posted about her situation on many different subreddits for years. And nothing ever changes. OP is still as helpless as they were when they first asked for advice. Many people have tried to tell her what she could do or how she could leave, she seems to thank them, and then... does nothing. A couple of months later, she makes a different post on a different subreddit where she's seemingly back at square one.
Which is when I realized what was really going on here: This is a person who does indeed have executive functioning challenges which mean they can't really live independently, but they're not so disabled that their mother's constant handholding is necessary. They have the mental capacity to have a hidden social media account and write articulately, at least. The result of this is a state of purgatory, one they can recognize as more restrictive than what they need, but can't actually leave.
It's interesting (if a little sad) to watch from the outside.
