There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

He's taking this "Cool dad who buys the really good fireworks" thing a bit too far.
I wonder who's next up after Kim eventually kicks it? A daughter seems unlikely, But there's a conspicuous absence of sons. Transition of power to the next leader could be pretty rough.
Officially, they have three kids together however given his wife’s constant months-long disappearances throughout the previous decade and recent years, it is safe to say they have more than three. It seems she was pregnant in the beginning of this year and last year, hence her recent weight-gain.

He probably has a few sons by now, although we probably won’t see them for awhile so showing off his daughters is the safest option as they won’t inherit shit except aunt skeletor’s current post.

They will never denuclearize and will continue development under Kim’s watch.

Oh and um… he’s making Ju-ae (confirmed by SK intelligence) to cosplay as his wife, totally not creepy.

Many Koreans live in the areas of China contiguous to North Korea. A number of Koreans live in the area of Russia that borders on North Korea. The north would be a mess for some time, people would leave to find work.

East Germany was probably the most prosperous of the Soviet satellite states, and the two Germanies never fought each other. There were still challenges, but after over thirty years would say the reunification has succeeded.

North Korea is a basket case. It will take many years and a great deal of money/effort to bring the north up to southern standards. Going to have to disarm the North Korean military/security services, deal with the nukes. Callous or not, not everyone in South Korea wants to assume such a burden. Took many years after the end of the Korean War for South Korea to become a First World nation.
The economic divide between East and west Germany pales in comparison with North and South Korea.

According to some estimates, economists state that it will cost Seoul a grand total of $3 trillion dollars of investments and many decades (probably half a century or even more) to get North Korea up to date.

There’s many additional issues as well. Remember that North Koreans are brainwashed from a very young age to blindly hate South Korea and the US. They’re taught they’re the cleanest race, that they’re superior, etc etc and that the world is at war with them. Having decades upon decades upon decades of indoctrination will cause people accustom to this ideology

Idk if it’s all North Koreans - perhaps the peasants out in the countryside may not be so loyal to the Kim’s, but info is scant. No major rebellions have been notable in North Korea for decades (since the 1950s to be exact). There’s always the specter that a unified Korea will face guerrilla warfare in the rugged jagged mountains of the North, a severe refugee crisis of largely unskilled and malnourished people that will tank the quality of life in Southern Korean cities or China, and the overall mess it would incur. Also keep in mind that people in the DPRK still think east Germany and probably the USSR exist so there’s that. It’s a society stuck in the 1980s with technology largely

East and west Germany merged together and whilst some problems exist I think it cost Germany far less than it would cost Korea

For those Kiwis who might underestimate just how bad that is, a reminder that East Germany is still worse off in every single standard of quality of life than West Germany thirty years after reunification and god knows how much money invested in that place. Their wages are lower, their living areas are shittier, alcohol and tobacco use are higher, life expectancy and overall health is worse... The harm Communism inflicted on East Germany was absolutely dire, and if NK is as bad as people are saying living conditions are literally Third World in 90% of it.

A collapse of North Korea would cause a major crisis. Plus, I think it would be unwise to enfranchise North Koreans because they were brain washed for so long.

As North Korea condemns Japan's new security strategy, military tensions are escalating between the two nations. North Korea has been warned of counteraction by Japan against such intrepid remarks.

Very interesting article not just about NK insulin imports, but their approach to dealing with non-communicable diseases in general. Doubt we ever think much of or know much about the plight of those suffering from diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc., in shithole countries like NK.

Here's an article about a major NK fertilizer plant that has never really started producing. Believe this is one reason for the recent huge push within NK to collect manure, to help make up for the fertilizer that plant isn't producing.

How do Norks get beetus? They can't exactly afford to Mukbang.

Leaving aside that Type 1 diabetes exists, Kimmy Boy has more chins than a Chinese phonebook, with plenty of his generals careful to only have two or three to avoid looking better-off than him. When 90% of the country is starving, the 10% that aren't take pride in being fat as a sign of status.

That, and I believe Asians are pre-disposed towards diabetes with only 30% of their Type 2 cases associated with being fat compared to 60% or so for Europeans. White rice is also pretty much just pure carbs once it gets broken down in your gut, so that's a major contributing factor.

An "unknown respiratory virus" is currently running rampant enough through Pyongyang for it to be put under lockdown. It's probably just Covid, or a variant of it, but if it's not, well, ah shit, here we go again.

It’s most likely covid. Probably whatever variant is running through China right now if borders have been opened again.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile yet again, after which South Korea said that Pyongyang fired an unspecific ballistic missile towards the Sea of its Eastern coast. Pyongyang earlier warned of a strong response to the upcoming U.S., South Korea military drills.

Well
https://youtube.com/watch?v=pJDCfX4VurMNorth Korea is threatening to punish parents for letting their children watch foreign films. Parents will be sent to labour camps for six months, while children will be imprisoned for five years for watching western media.

This isn't too surprising, given that they have executed people for watching Squid Game, or listening to K-Pop. Although in the case of the latter, it may be for their own good in the long run.
