There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Previously, most of their posturing was just creating the image they were insane and we played along because it was easier than the alternative. It's looking like Fatty may be actually insane, or at least too dumb to be trusted.

I honestly think the best solution might just be for the Chinese to invade, depose Fat Boy Kim, and run it as a colony for a while.

I do not like the idea at all of China basically expanding its borders to be right next to South Korea and Japan.

I prefer the idea of decapitating the regime and creating chaos, then having an actual permanent treaty with China where they get a buffer zone of almost as much as they want of the Nork camps, but South Korea also gets a buffer zone of shit including Pyongyang.

Something permanent, though, and unambiguous.

This semi-permanent armistice on the 51st parallel just has not worked out at all well.

Preferably, I'd like China sucking up the burden of turning most of these mutants back into humans again, though.

A couple years back, the South Korea govt got tired of it, lost their shit, and was publicly daring North Korea to fucking do it. They were damned close to restarting the war themselves. Right about when those islands got blasted.

Reintegrating North Korea into the real world will be like absorbing an entire country where the entire country was living on the level of Auschwitz.

Only if you go about it like a retard. Just rebuild the area enough back to mostly feeding itself, then just let them be. Just let the place build up slowly and naturally. Let it be backwards. The only expensive bits will be the new schools and services. Outside of that, just let them be.

South Korea rebuilding itself will be horrendous, but North Korea? Just let it be primitive and backwards. After the war, there will most likely be 2-3 million less North Koreans on the peninsula anyways. So just let the land and survivors be.

Let it be backwards. The only expensive bits will be the new schools and services. Outside of that, just let them be.

Nice idea but it's way too close to areas we care about, like South Korea and Japan, and it's directly bordering China, which they definitely care about.

Just coming together and singing kumbaya isn't going to fix that shit. Both of those countries are going to demand that they're damn sure that area doesn't represent a threat.

This isn't some bullshit area of Africa that nobody gives a shit about.

North Korea's conditions is almost fucking medieval, and that's being charitable. It's going to basically break whatever country has to pick up the pieces economically, and probably fuck over the global economy too because of it.

I'd only agree with this if by "almost fucking medieval" you meant they were almost as good as medieval.

If you put a gun to my head and gave me the choice of whether I'd rather live in medieval Europe or North Korea as currently constituted, I'd thank you and choose the medieval.

Uhhh, those are people who have no idea how to make their own decisions on a political level. You'd have to establish a strict, barely democratic regime for them that's functionally not too far away from the brutal tyranny they're living under right now. That may be really questionable from an ethical point of view (for a Western nation, the Chinese are a different story).

Even if you just "let them be", it would take generations for any appreciable change, and there's no way you should/could keep the two peoples separate from each other. There's a ton of families that got separated, just like there were in Germany.

Forty years for appreciable difference. Only forty years for appreciable change. 20 years for the in-the-cradle children to be raised on something approaching a decent diet, again, 3 million less Norks to feed so the land can do an adequate job, while receiving a decent k-12 education. Then another twenty years for speckled bits of economic development here and there.

All of this going on while wealthy and well to do South Koreans buy up land here and there and develop it.

East Germany was so expensive to integrate *because* it had an actual economy and actual industrial concerns. It was like trying to kitbash a vehicle from a gas burning engine with an automatic 2x4 and a diesel with manual 4x4. Not to mention West Germany largely shutdown many industries, especially the Defense related ones, because West German compnaies didn't want the competition.

40 years for serious and notable improvement. Germany hasn't even had that long.

It was only just over 40 years ago when the Norks actually had it better.

I think it would be easier for China to integrate the Norks compared to South Korea. China's communism would be at the very least somewhat familiar to the population.
