Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

I don't mind Morgan Freeman because he's a good actor, but I think he's the reason why people now think the Moors were all black (he played one in Robin Hood).
I wonder if this will cause problems down the line. Do we know that Greeks weren't black? Yes. However, considering the waning popularity of books, the greater importance that movies have on the zeitgeist, and the lowered likelihood of people going outside (and the higher likelihood of seeing random diversity when they do go outside) it makes me wonder if kids will actually think it was always like this.

It's already bad enough trying to explain how impactful this decision is from a story perspective to grown-ass adults who should know better (why are there so many people of different races? is this place some sort of metropolis or crossroads? have the immigrant populations been here long? if they have, why haven't they integrated properly? is there some sort of class system in place?) without being told "you can handle krakens and gods in your fantasy but you can't handle black people," let alone trying to explain the concept to people who have never even considered it before.

That is part of the bigger issue outside of just the woke inanery. They're making their versions, but soon their version becomes the version. Look at The Odyssey translations. I'd be apt to use Latimore's or another's version, but what is pushed is Wilson's feminist rewrite both online and probably college course reading.

First result SEO makes it defacto in younger people's algos, same thing will happen with the movie.

If Helen of Troy was some big tittie, thin Koran chick, would there be similar backlash?
Possibly, but from the ones defending this trash heap of a movie.
People are trying to use the casting for the upcoming Resurrection Of The Christ as a way to defend the casting in The Odyssey.

This is an Asian depiction of the Last Supper. This is fine, just like the casting in the Resurrection movie, because there is still reverence to the "prototype" (source material).

That's what these faggots do not understand. They have no reverence or respect for the source material, in fact they hate it, and being "enlightened", must make the "necessary changes" to the works.

They who control the present control the past.

They understand fine. They are taking a shit in your temple. They are defacing what you treasure. That's their goal and you both know it. Their denial is like an older brother saying "stop punching yourself", it's just mockery.

That's the whole "representation" argument. The intention is "if they can see it, they can be it". Meaning, a black child needs an aspirational figure that looks like them or else they will not succeed in life.

Which is weird when it comes to fictional characters, and even weirder when it comes to history.

I lament the current state of society for a lot of reasons that are seemingly intertwined (at least in my pattern-addled brain). Only because I get a lot of videos in my feed of people crashing out in the mere presence of an idea they don't like. And it's strange that people crash out over the idea that Helen of Troy would characteristically not have been black.

The thing that bothers me, of course, is when they ask you why it matters. If it doesn't matter so much, then you wouldn't care if she were white. In fact, I'd double the fuck down on that particular idea: if there was never a chance she'd have been cast as black, I bet you wouldn't have kicked up a storm about it at all. It wouldn't have even occurred to you. You would have gone along your merry way not considering the possibility that a role that went to a white woman could have gone to a "strong black sista".

They only care because it's an idea they like, and they like it because it pisses off white men.

This is already happening in the UK, younger generations are spoon-fed that Britain always had a sizeable population of Africans who racists never or almost never painted, photographed or filmed. The BBC has an animated educational show The Story of Britain which shows token Black Saxon monks and craftsmen, Norman knights, ancient Briton warriors in every fucking scene. It was laughed off the internet but the damage is done. Many youngsters don't believe their grandparents who haven't seen a Black person until the end of the 20th century and think old footage of White, nice English cities is AI.

Robbing entire nations of their history, just like that. This is pure evil.

There is plenty of anime or Japanese live action series which has historical or mythological figures portrayed in a race- or genderswapped version. Jesus and his disciples, or Buddha, played by Japanese actors result in one of the most delightful series I know. Fate has all those male historical characters, portrayed as cute female girls.
Takarazuka theater is fun, and in the Tokyo stage version of the Cursed Child, the cast is entirely Japanese (no Black Hermione).
I have been thinking why I am able to enjoy those, just as I enjoy old time movies where virtually none of the characters were played by actors from the culture they were supposed to represent. Yul Brynner as King of Siam, Marlon Brando as Japanese, Hispanic actresses as Pacific Island girls.

Whereas I am actually repulsed by the race and gender bending being done in modern media. Black Helena and brown, Asian or ex-female "Greek" soldiers, Doctor Who becoming a woman, Black, and also a Black woman. Hamilton, Bridgerton. Black Hermione and Snape. Black Ariel and dirt brown Snow White, The list is long.

And it all comes down to ... in contemporary Western media, you just see the bad intent. It is not working with the actors you have, trying to tell an entertaining story, create a fantasy that harms no-one, it is trying to rewrite history, manipulate, and reshape society. Some of them don't even try to hide it,one of the Who showrunners (Moffuck) openly said it in an interview.

And unfortunately it seems to be working.

Not to try and sound too hyperbolic, but people that want to change your people's history (and they aren't YOUR people, they are an invading tribe) are evil, and whatever comes of them, is just, because they are trying to alter the culture, practices, history and stability of your people, forever.

It sounds insane to say, but this is a more direct attack than actually just killing one of your own, its more evil, its attacking deeper and more fundamentally, its exactly like Melkor/Morgoth raping and torturing the Elves into Orcs, and should be viewed with, and retaliated with that level of force required for such a crime.

But.. horrifically, we are in a domesticated, lame, apathetic time, and you are forced, like the interstellar meme, to pound on the walls in impotent despair.

Because you and I know how the movie industry worked, who went into acting, which group had a monopoly on it and how demographics back then were. You couldn't find a Pima Indian actor to play Ira Hayes so you gave it to Tony Curtis. Kirk Douglas was a bigger box office draw than James Arness so the Jew played a Viking instead of the actual Norwegian. You get it. The diversity and representation they want now should go hand in hand with global casting! Find Japanese to play Samurai, tell everyone not Italian to pound sand when you're about to film a Mob or a Roman Empire movie and call everybody from Al Pacino to Jason Biggs like @Athena Loves Kiwis said, get Jews to play Oppenheimer and his crew and so on.
and they aren't YOUR people, they are an invading tribe
Good point! Ridiculous to see that Hollywood Jews are at the forefront of this atrocious colorblind casting trend despite letting each other corner the market for the vast majority of White roles. They played everything, especially in the past: Mexican dictators (John Garfield), Irish gunslingers (Paul Newman), capeshit Amazons (Gal Gadot), Chinese hatchet men (Edward G. Robinson), Macedonian kings (William Shatner) and even literal Hitler (Taika Waititi). They truly cry out in pain as they strike you.

why does everyone say he light skinned arabs? he was a jew and would look jewish and not sammy davis jr jewish.
Because modern day Palestinian people are closer genetically to the people of the region back then than Ashkenazi Jews are. We don't know what Jesus looked like, assuming he existed (which is likely). But something like a light-skinned Arab is the most probable racial base.

That's the whole "representation" argument. The intention is "if they can see it, they can be it". Meaning, a black child needs an aspirational figure that looks like them or else they will not succeed in life.
Which has some truth to it but not enough to outweigh that one can get just as much inspiration from someone who isn't like you. I find Joan of Arc admirable and have a biography of her. It's not like I can't find inspiration there just because I am male and she was not. But more notable is that instead of trying to inspire with real life figures, these people race or gender swap existing ones. You want to inspire Black people in the USA? Hold up Thomas Sowell or Clarence Thomas or Frederick Douglas (though I think he might have been half-caste, whatever). Hell, even Chris Rock who is a comedian set a good example for young Black men. There are lots. But what do they get? Mumble rap and gangster imagery. You want aspirational figures for Black men? Use the ones you actually have. Or make new stories.

But making new stories is the problem isn't it? As Tolkien's works tell us (paraphrasing): Evil cannot create, it can only corrupt.
