I wonder if this will cause problems down the line. Do we know that Greeks weren't black? Yes. However, considering the waning popularity of books, the greater importance that movies have on the zeitgeist, and the lowered likelihood of people going outside (and the higher likelihood of seeing random diversity when they do go outside) it makes me wonder if kids will actually think it was always like this.I don't mind Morgan Freeman because he's a good actor, but I think he's the reason why people now think the Moors were all black (he played one in Robin Hood).
It's already bad enough trying to explain how impactful this decision is from a story perspective to grown-ass adults who should know better (why are there so many people of different races? is this place some sort of metropolis or crossroads? have the immigrant populations been here long? if they have, why haven't they integrated properly? is there some sort of class system in place?) without being told "you can handle krakens and gods in your fantasy but you can't handle black people," let alone trying to explain the concept to people who have never even considered it before.
