The messed up thing is that the black test subject captain America story is in the comics and it's actually good. Like this was way before the woke shit and I remember enjoying the way the story was setup and framed with the dudes wife telling cap about his story.
At the end of it the cap black got retarded from the earliest form of the serum so Captain America respectfully salutes him and thanks him for his service. The storyline honestly could have worked in a pre woke time but they made the right call not doing it now.
Yeah, Red White & Black. I really liked Isaiah Bradley in the 2000s, because pre-OWS you could talk about shit like Tuskegee and have the point of the conversation be "never trust the government" instead of "white man bad".
Technically, Deadpool and Wolverine counts as an MCU success given that Disney owns Fox now. But we all know that movie's success happened solely because of what Fox built with their Marvel characters for the past 20-something years, and that nobody gave a shit about the MCU stuff that was in it.
Spider-Man: No Way Home doesn't count as an MCU success, as most of its profits went to Sony, lol. And I don't know a single person who saw No Way Home for Doctor Strange. Everyone saw that movie because of nostalgia for the previous, non-MCU Spider-Man movies.
That's a good point, it's telling enough that the three most enjoyable MCU movies out of the last twelve were essentially just Disney jingling keys in my face in the form of nostalgic characters/actors from twenty years ago while I drool and clap like a seal, but it didn't even really occur to me that that nostalgia is for the work of entirely different studios.
Predict the future of the MCU, I think this shit will end after Secret Wars at maximum.
I think they're going to try to pull up and return to form but it's too little too late. They're pivoting hard to Downey Doom but they literally don't have anybody compelling to fight him. I mean who's left? Cap got replaced by a POC. Stark got replaced by a POC. They tried to replace Thor and Hulk with female versions that flopped, Hemsworth and Ruffalo seem open to doing more but they're both reduced to jokes at this point. Hawkeye got replaced by Kate Bishop. Widow got replaced by Yelena. Ant-Man is probably about to get replaced by Stature. Tchalla got replaced by idk Suri probably I didn't watch that shit but he's dead. Spider-Man still exists but nobody remembers who he is. So that leaves what, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel, and a whole bunch of new characters nobody fucking likes or cares about. They're banking hard on FF and it's not looking good.
One theory I've heard is that they're going to lean heavily into the multiverse shit and bring back Reynolds and Jackman and Macguire, especially since it's Secret Wars and they'll probably have the Battleworld angle to work with as well, and... god I hope so, because the alternatives are a team comprised of Thor the loveable goof, Hulk the loveable goof, Star-Lord the loveable goof, Ant-Man the loveable goof, and Spider-Man the loveable goof all annoying the shit out of Stephen Strange, OR they go all in on the All New All Different Avengers dogshit they've been propping up for the last decade.
I know I'm a broken record at this point but it's one thing to look at the last 5-10 years of MCU DEI shit in a vacuum and wonder what the hell they were thinking, but it's an entirely different thing to look at the last 5-10 years of MCU DEI shit knowing that they're directly adapting the exact same terrible DEI shit they tried in the comics 10-15 years ago and wonder what the FUCK they were THINKING. Nobody wants to watch an adaptation of
this
They had a lowbrow feel good money machine, and all they had to do was keep making the same thing. I still honestly don't know if they actually took a Blackrock check to make slopaganda or if they just tried to get out in front of the supposed bubble by fucking with the formula, but either way they fucked themselves over bigtime. They've had six years to develop any number of already beloved characters with half a century of material to adapt and they squandered it. Hey fuck it, give us an adaptation of the Spider-Woman run where she fights crime eight months pregnant, why not. Make Galacta the main antagonist of Fantastic Four, who fucking cares. Bring on Amy Schumer as Squirrel Girl and Hunter Schafer as Gwenpool. If you're gonna bet on NOW!/ANADM, might as well go all in.
