The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an entertainingly shit film, and it's what so many of these boring-ass MCU films try and fail to be. I still laugh at Electro's Blue Man Group design and his retarded motivation for hating Spider-Man.
both those movies villain plots are retarded but in a funny way. the first one, when it came out I was like what the fuck was the Lizard's goal anyway? If I went from some scrawny cripple to a giant lizard man, why the fuck would I want to create other lizard guys? he was an alpha predator at that point. only Spider-Man could maybe stop him. why would you turn a bunch of random people into the same thing as you? maybe they'd kick his scaly ass and then he's just a wimp in lizard form or something. an ex girlfriend asked me why I didn't like the movie and I told her I had no idea why the fuck he wanted to create other lizards, and she said maybe he just wanted some friends? and that's as good an explanation as any I guess.
the second movie, Electro is just a fucking retard. he's like if you were a bus driver, who picks people up all day every day and he introduces himself for some reason the single time ever he rides your route and then weeks later you run into him at the grocery store and he's pissed off you don't know who he is. maybe he should have met the Lizard and had him turn him into a Lizard then they could both have a friend. the best character in those movies was the Rhino and he was in 55 seconds total. I was actually legitimately the most excited for Giamatti in that movie and was so pissed the movie was so long and he was barely in it.
to be fair though the Green Goblin's villain plot in Spider-Man 1 is also retarded. the only motivation he has is to get revenge on those board guys, and he kills them 15 minutes after he gets the Oz formula and then the rest of the movie everything he does is for absolutely no reason at all. he just starts terrorizing Spider-Man for kicks. he has the excuse of his newly split personality being evil or whatever, but Spider-Man didn't do anything to him at all! he didn't even stop him from killing the only guys who did! but I actually have always found the movie more entertaining once I realized Norman has absolutely no motivation for anything he does most of the movie. that's hilarious. the green goblin is just screwing around because he can.
the amazing movies I thought had really dumb fucking stories when they came out, but even then I never thought they were boring. just baffling. they at least had some superficial cool shit in them. the lizard school fight was dope, him crawling around in the sewers, Amazing 2 had the single best suit we've ever gotten and some cool Spidey movement in the action. and now with a decade more MCU oversaturation to compare them to, they ARE stupid in an entertaining and funny way, which really a lot of stuff in the Raimi movies are too. it's hard to get mad at them. the MCU has a lot of shit that's straight up boring or counter-intuitive to the point it makes me legitimately mad at it, for the same reasons I got mad at FoX-Men after they fucked up everything after DoFP, waste of perfectly good set up, cast, and characters and retroactively making other movies I liked a waste of time.
