KH 1 and 2 had good use of the Disney world (at least by my memory) but in 3 it felt like an afterthought to pad out the game and unveil yet another boring X clone. If 4 ditches the Disney worlds it might be salvagable, but at best it will have the """mature""" Disney properties who are somehow even more gay than what is intended for children.
Birth By Sleep also integrated them well, I believe. Chain of Memories, Coded, and Days, not so much, but the context for revisiting worlds in those games was passable.
Not sure about Dream Drop Distance.

Dream Drop Distance had lesser used Disney IPs. It's an interesting game but the switching mechanic can get annoying because it's on a timer. Sora and Riku have different versions of the same worlds so you can't just start back up where you were.

The main story aspects still took place outside of the Disney Worlds IIRC.

Dream drop was pretty boring in general imo, mlst of the bosses were giant dream eaters that were either flying around on a big arena or you had to chace them until theh stopped and then attack them.
Also yeah, the drop mechanic is stupid

I'm hoping we get more of a spread of intimate, 1v1, human-sized boss battles in 4.
KH3 doesn't really give that satisfaction until the late/postgame, and really killed the replay value, which sucks since you can start challenging yourself with the org bosses in KH2 well before the midpoint.

Also God damn it, Nomura, allow party members to guard shit so they don't die from a single, stupid attack with 10 seconds of windup.

i used to like Disney back in the day but recent years has made me cringe in disgust of what it has become with its globohomo agenda, buying up IPS and shting them out for set homo agenda and bending the knee for communist china that should be everything they stand against. seriously, fuck them, i will still enjoy the movies of old but i will not touch anything made by nu-disney.
Im like 99% certain Nomura is going to focus on the least Disney shit possible whenever he can and finally tap into FF worlds. I base this not on him hating disney for recent decisions, but mainly because of past development interviews.

3 was a such a huge pain the ass to make because they gave him less creative freedom to work with the Disney property's as the series went on. I believe him or one of his staff explicitly said they had a free hand in KH1 and far less so in KH3, because the current year creators were more hands on.

Why are there still le edgy black long coat guys in the trailer? Isn't everyone even remotely associated with organization 13 dead several times over?
This guy is the origin of everything. The maker of the keyblades and man behind the curtain for the entire franchise. He has a series of cutscenes in Kingdom hearts 2.8 and a scene in KH remind.

Here he is setting up his apprentices to kill each other in the most friendly and jovial manner possible.

He's great.
Nomura really can't let that coat go
I love that fucking coat. I nominate it as best coat in fiction.
im off Nomura wild ride and he can take versus 13 and stick it up his ass. let it go old man!
People have no clue what kind of hell was going on in the background. Publicly, one of the biggest reasons why versus got fucked over was because of the utter disaster of ff14's launch forcing Nomura to give up most of his staff to help out, but .... I dont believe that's all that's known

I wonder how Tabata is doing these days?

If they tap into acquired Disney IP, you will probably get that.

Vader would be an obvious human boss and one that could be terrifying as shit to face if given the right context. Imagine them pulling a Rogue One and Vader just chases your ass down a hallway.

Marvel could also be a big one for human 1v1s depending on what they do with the property if they use it. I would assume Thanos would be the main boss, but maybe they will try something more original leading to some cool possibilities. Loki would be a fun battle and would be a cool way to just have Marvel be the original Avengers film. Ultron could also be cool but I doubt he would be picked over the other two Avenger’s enemies.

If I am right about the Worlds, the Syndrome could be a great human opponent.

Vader in Rogue One was bitchsauce compared to how he was in Fallen Order.
Showed up out of nowhere, shanked his apprentice you just redeemed for betraying him, and then proceeds to Force Crush the environment as you run away in sheer panic. And then you stop to catch your breath and he's right fucking behind you because he just walked at a brisk pace the whole time.

Oh, and you're in an underwater facility, but its not like Vader gives a shit about minor little things like "leaks" or "water pressure".

Funnily enough some people are convinced that KH4 will feature a Star Wars world due to something that looks like an AT-ST and other things popping up in the trailer.

As far it being legit I’d take a grain of salt on it but it’s worth noting that and that EA’s exclusivity deal on Star Wars games is ending in 2023 and Nomura said in an interview that contractual complications prevented him from putting any LucasFilms or Marvel IPs from being added to KH3 (Disney’s BH6 is considered a derivative of the Marvel comic of the same name so it’s exempt from those contracts).

That's debateable

When I first heard "RPG with Disney Characters" when KH1 was being advertised I immediately thought "oh wow, I can create my very own Disney team in a Final Fantasy Game?!?!" The fact that you can't take any of the other Disney characters with you to go beat up the big bad guy is a HUGE let down. "Oh what's that? You want Tron and Ariel to pernamently replace Doland and Goopy? Too bad, you're permamently glued to them forever!!!"

beast got a lot of millage in KH1 but yeah, you can blame a lot of that on disney. Even as far back as 1 they didn't want too much crossover between property's.

I never cared to see Kairi get developed as more than a plot device for Sora and Riku, so i can't understand the "she's useless" complaints she got in 3 and so. Like, really... Was Kairi someone the fans *actually* wanted to see step up and fight? Personally, i'm fine with her remaining the damsel-in-distress/endgoal for the two main characters, simple doesn't always mean bad

Also as someone who enjoyed the series, my personal canon is 1-CoM-2.
And that's it, the story ends there for me

Personally? yeah I really did want her to step it up a notch. I wasnt expecting the world out of her, but it would have be a pleasant surprise if they had her be a companion for the last world or so. They kind hyped her up a little too much in the games leading up to 3 before she got benched.

Remind did a great job fixing this, but Melody of Memories despite being ostensibly a Kairi game

Doesnt feature a playable Kairi in the songs and she gets possessed by sora in the final fight.
I appreciate that Nomura doesn't make her a mary sue at the fandom's beck and call, but I do want to see her grow as a character and actually get into more fights.

I respect that. Definitely the best jump off point for kids at least, as shit gets more progressively complex and dark.
I enjoyed the Xehanort saga, but it did go on a lot longer then it should have. Really get the sense Nomura wanted to finish it a lot earlier, but circumstances forced his hand.

I doubt most people legitimately care about Kairi doing anything important because they like her (beyond blah blah blah stronk wamen), but since KH2 they've been teasing "Kairi has keyblade, she's going to do something!!!" and this was their big chance and it is such a laughable shitshow of her doing fuck all for about 95% of the game and just being a plot device again. They even build up her training and then she contributes almost nothing, though that might just be part of the KH3 problem where 80% of the game is a waste of time in terms of moving the plot forward.

KH's biggest problem is it teased ideas and developments for sometimes more then a decade (Like Kairi in KH2) and it so badly just about all of it, I had completely checked out of the story by Dream Drop Distance but I just had to see if 3 would actually resolve anything and despite having no expectations and hating this story overall I was still disappointed which just floors me to this day. Especially with Roxas, fuck Nomura for screwing up Roxas.

Canonically the only real games are KH 1, CoM and KH 2.

BBS, Days, KH 0.2 & 3 and the mobile game are just fever dreams of a chuuni.

Org. 13 is dead, Roxas & Namine are still living inside Sora and there´s no Foreteller/Time Travel/You are Xehanort bullshit.

Why does Days need to be a fever dream, narratively speaking?

Just because we wish it to be so doesn't make it true.

Roxas is back to have a three way with his boyfriend and the girlfriend he forgot about, we're all half Xehanort, and we need to find the power of waking to save Kingdom Hearts from darkness within darkness that awaits us.

The saddest facts are the hardest to accept.

Why does Days need to be a fever dream, narratively speaking?
Because Days introduces a worthless character to almost completely replace the character it is supposed to be about for no reason other then Nomura wanting to do pointless shit and drum up extra drama.

Making a Roxas game only for him to have to share character development and screentime with a pointless new character that doesn't really add much to anything except more melodrama sucks. Roxas was already depressing and tragic enough as he was in KH2 due to him being effectively fated to return to Sora and that being the only purpose to his life, or how he was only a pawn to someone's greater schemes and was manipulated to do another's bidding at pretty much every waking moment of his life,

I'd rather they actually explore that aspect of his character especially with his conflict with Riku who obviously wants Roxas to return to Sora. He doesn't need the arc of "So I actually also had a boyfriend AND a girlfriend, but the girlfriend just disappeared from existence and I forgot about her, now I can't have ice cream with her." to make him more sympathetic he was fine as he was.
