Been playing the new remix so I was in the mood of starting a topic on this series. Pretty much, what's your history with the series? What's your favorite title in the series.

I got introduced to the first game mostly because I was really into Nightmare Before Christmas back in 2003/2004. I played the first and second games to death. I was really into thr story back them until realizing it went completely crazy after the second game. Even now, its the only series I trust with Square Enix on a gameplay standpoint.

I've played it since it first came out. I hate most of the fans with a furious passion, though, so I don't really advertise my enjoyment of the series. The story did kind of get convoluted and shitty after KH2, but I'm still looking forward to KH3. I still haven't played KH3D, but I'm planning on it in the next few months.

I like it, but since I never played Chain of Memories, I was a little lost when I played KH II. The fact that you need to play the side games is a little annoying.

I've played most of 358/2 days, I've finished D3 and I've played...five minutes of Birth by Sleep.
I'm gonna be so lost.

Guys, this is why the flying spaghetti monster created the internet. If you need to know what happens in the side games, people make "movies" of them with just the cutscenes that you can watch on the youtubes.

I couldn't finish D3, the worlds were so underwhelming and about halfway through at the Nobody world, I finally couldn't take how retardedly convoluted the story got. It's like th.ey literally didn't give a shit anymore.

I...I don't understand.

Time travel was probably the last thing this series needed. And since I've never played The World Ends With You, I was doubly lost.

That's your fault for living in a gay country where every animal is poisonous and can kill you

I absolutely loved the first Kingdom Hearts when I was younger. And in some ways, I still do. Looking back, now that I know about fanfictions, the whole premise shouldn't have worked. But it did, and it worked splendidly. I think it was either back in 5th or 6th grade. I was obsessed with the game. I loved the story, the settings, the design of the Heartless, the music, the Keyblade, ect. At some points, my friends and I would pretend to be Sora and a bunch of heartless on the playground. That's how much we loved the game.

I skipped over Chain of Memories when that came out however as by the looks of things, it seemed like the same as the first game but with a weird card mechanic and extra bosses. So I went and played 2 when it came out. I also really enjoyed it. Although looking back, the plot was getting rather convoluted at that point and I didn't quite understand what was going on.

When I got the HD remix that came out last year, I got to play Re: Chain of Memories and I absolutely hated it. Coming into it straight after playing KH1 was incredibly jarring. I just couldn't get into the card system and I felt it just made everything a lot more frustrating. I got to the last area in the game as Sora and just stopped playing. Part of me wanted to get the full story out of the game so stuff from later KH games would make more sense, but between the gameplay and having to go through another campaign as Riku to get more of the story, I just didn't feel like wasting my time.

So yeah, after that I kinda drifted away from Kingdom Hearts. I'll still most likely get the 2nd Remix collection at some point though, as I have yet to play Birth by Sleep. Or any of the other KH games that aren't the flagship games besides CoM which I'll never ever touch again.

That's the only reason that I have any clue what happened in BbS. There was no way in hell that I was going to buy a PSP for literally one game.

But that's the only reason I bought one...:(

I was certainly tempted. However, there are literally no other "must own" games for me on that platform, and I've spent the past six years in academia, meaning I'm perpetually broke. BbS certainly looks fun, though, although I think some of the story with Ven is kind of retarded.

One thing that kinds of bothers me about Birth by Sleep is that they missed some opportunities to explore some aspects like the whole Triton knows about the keyblade thing. They could of explored that giving that BbS takes place before KH1.

Anyway, I'm playing more of KH2FM recently, and I'm finding it to be the best game in the series. The side content afterwards is just awesome and it makes up for the game being easier.

I've played 'em all except KH2.

Started by beating Kingdom Hearts 1 on Expert mode, the actual path to beating the game wasn't so hard but the secret bosses were a good chunk of grinding for items/munny. I love the gameplay of these games but I have to agree the story is confusing as fuck, and has gotten increasingly convoluted with each installment while some things go unexplored.

I've been playing 358/2 Days lately, it has a good story about Roxas' life, it does a good job capturing his friendship with Axel and Xion in between his actual missions to complete Kingdom Hearts under the guise of granting every Nobody a heart, and the mission format is nice because it lets you replay your favorite fights.

EDIT: I love how one of the "best" Kingdom Hearts fanfics is one where Vanitas makes Unversed in a way that's similar to how Tyce gets high.

Is Re Coded worth playing? It's the only title I haven't played. One thing I do know is that they repeat the same worlds from past games.

If you didn't mind the controls in Days and want a puzzle-like challenge with Birth by Sleep-style mechanics, then it's worth a try.
