I guess I'm fortunate that the only snakes I've had to deal with are rattlesnakes (I was using a chainsaw near some rocks in a treeline once and the rattle was loud enough to hear over the idling two stroke engine so I got the fuck out of there) and tiny baby Garder snakes that used to find their way into the basement and were easy to carry outside where they would have a shot at not dehydrating to death in an environment they were never meant for.

Of all the times for AR to not be around, had to be when some retard manhandled a taipan wrong. Would've liked to have gotten her take on this.

Also while Google Imaging taipans to look for some cute pics, happened upon this old story about some 19-year-old Aussie who got bit by his pet taipan.

LOL I googled this retards name and turns out he has been a naughty boy and got caught smuggling reptiles interstate a couple years back.
Fucking reptile youtubers are such an untapped goldmine

We have pretty fucking harsh laws in Australia when it comes to fucking with our wild life like you need a licinese for even pythons or lizards and im sure there is some difficulty getting one to keep venomous snakes as well so this retard is especially stupid and gay and looks like a pooner.

Also this is illegal to do
Shovel came in handy this morning, only good brown snake is a dead one.
Unless the snake is possessing a direct threat.
I'm indifferent about killing them because one hand having them around keeps mice away but same time if I had a dog i sure as hell wouldnt want them around.

It can kill a man within half an hour of envenomation, and it's on her property. If that's not a "direct threat," I don't know what is.

Back on-topic, any update on this moron?
Looks like he's still alive and got his antivenom for pussies.
Reddit thread

There's also a YT short from a snake channel ( it's not the guy in the video, but it's the channel of that guy that "produced" the wobble head Pythons ) about it. Doesn't say anything too interesting but I'll link it regardless.
Short

I wonder if more reptile channels will talk about it and complain about the stain on muh hobby.

I didn't watch all of his videos, not even close, but he always seemed very "animal well being first". He's considered controversial?
Probably doesn't matter much anymore since he stopped doing reptile content after his business went broke, but surprising to me regardless.
Apparently once he admitted that his passion for reptiles (as a hobby) had “waned” he really started showing signs of burnout and started making content seemingly without much care for the actual animals. I don’t deal with the reptile community (aside from when it occasionally overlaps with aquatics in husbandry and/or drama) but this Reddit post and it’s comments is the best summary I’ve been able to find about all the issues.

He's alive, had to fly in the antivenom from the Bronx zoo. But not sure what long term effects will be
Christ. That hospital bill is going to be a fucking fortune, and no insurance company in the world will cover it.
If he does end up pulling through this, he's going to wish that snake had killed him.

As far as the neurotoxins, they are essentially related to muscle function and control, both voluntary and involuntary, which is why he is on a ventilator, but I wouldn't expect any cognitive deficits. The non-specific Phospholipase A2 in the venom can damage neurons to the point of death, but that acts on any cell in they body, so it's not neurospecific. So, any neurological damage he has to deal with will likely be relegated to muscle function both voluntary and involuntary, rather than cognitive. He'll be perfectly aware of all the limitations he now has to deal with and understand it is purely a result of his own stupidity. If he does survive, it will be weeks, at the earliest, until they know the extent of the damage since it will take quite some time for all the neurological systems that were impacted to get back to full power as a result of how the venom acts on them.

People in the comments are saying that the serval ran away months ago and hasn't been found. Probably coyote chow by now.

Serval vs. Coyote, I'd give it to the Serval

When you're that hospital-fucked the best thing to do is just ignore it DSP style. They won't even push you into bankrupcy anymore because of muh niggers.

Or just pay them $10 a month forever, they love that shit literally, lets them mark it as a "good debt" on the books even though they'll never see the amount.

It had to have been an electrical fire, right?

I'm assuming he had them all in one room, because these types usually have a "reptile room" where all the tanks are stacked on top of each other. Then each of the critters must have had a heat lamp, and then a normal lamp next to it. That's two wires, two outlets, per tank. If he has a bunch of them, the only way he's going to get that working is with a power strip or a multi-plug adapter. And if he keeps that running 12 hours a day, or God forbid 24/7... incredibly easy to overload the circuit and start a fire.
If I remember correctly it was electrical. A cop driving by saw the smoke and dragged him out. He was asleep. We didn't really do the investigation because of the cases of grenades in his bedroom closet.

Reptile people are fucking weird.

Think like a cop from Hickville, South Carolina for a second.

You have been called to the scene of a home of a man who has recently been hospitalized due to a venomous snake bite. You don't know which one is the "in-land Thai-pan," but you know that one of these snakes poses an immediate threat to human life. And you're no ophiologist, but you think you can make out a couple of rattlesnakes and cobras in those tanks, and you've seen enough movies to know you definitely don't want to play snake charmer with them.

Based on the evidence in front of you, are you:
  1. Going to start collecting the live snakes as evidence, possibly opening you or your fellow boys in blue up to the same fate as the poor bastard in the hospital?
  2. Going to try and auction them off to another nutjob, potentially opening your department up to a wrongful death lawsuit?
  3. Going to take a shovel from his garage and "clear the scene" first?
4. You're going to call animal control. And if you're empathetic, offer to buy them a drink afterwards if they make it.

Animal control bags them up and tosses them in a freezer. Which eliminates the life hazard while preserving the evidence.

And let me tell you, Animal Control HATES fuckers who keep shit like this.

Reptilefag here, but not to the extent that I think keeping anything hotter than a hognose is a good idea; IIRC anti-venom is a huge expense and it's much much cheaper to get and keep something horrifically venomous in general. Like if you are an American keeping something common and native like a rattlesnake costs are relatively reasonable but you can rely on local hospitals to have some on hand. If you're keeping something exotic, stuff is made basically artisanally in small batches for use by zoos and has a pretty short shelf life. If it even exists. I guarantee for a dose of Island Taipan antivenom it would cost you well in the 6 digits IF you can even get it and that's before the cost of getting it helicoptered from NYC to SC.

We live remotely, a bite from a brown is pretty much a death sentence out here, plus it was in the yard with my working dogs so it had to go. All the neg rates are welcomed, you obviously don’t live where we do and don’t get it.

some guy with millions of subs that lost a finger to a cobra he was messing around with and some other dude that had the bright idea to jump into a murky pond with a crocodile to get it out and relocate it to somewhere else and got his leg bitten. Of course this moron insisted on not getting it looked at right away, jumped back into that nasty ass pond and continued to be a clown while endangering everyone involved.
The same guy later got also bit by a wild indian cobra bc he just had to pick it up and harass it, bc... reasons ig.
late and slightly off topic but as someone who used to watch chandler and now fucking resents him he's also very threadworthy. he got bad and stupid with his snakes moreso fter hanging out with tyler nolan (i didn't read the pettuber threads much on lolcow but he was mentioned there a lot)
which also, after watching tylers snakes who seemed to get sick and die a lot, i believe a few of chandlers snakes got sick and iirc he did lose a few (this was quite a few years ago and sorry i don;t have the documentation on hand to back this up)

funny enough, he has a crossover of Jeff here trying to cancel himon his FB page of him and tyler smoking and blowing weed in snakes faces
i don't know how to archive facebook videos, sorry :(

also in his video of him saying goodbye to his dog Beara after only I believe like a year? or two? because she got out and was hit by a car (which people had been constantly warning him about that being a possbility as she was getting loose often and he did nothing about it) he ENDS HER MEMORIAL VIDEO TALKING ABOUT GETTING A FUCKING CAMEL

also he's anti USARK, though unfortunately i think he took down the video complainig about them a couple years ago after florida put out more strict exotic keeping laws i believe it was? digging deep into the memory banks for this one
EDIT: NERDs terrible youtube drama wannabe guy made a video which has the archive of him being anti-USARK, sorry for the cringe youtuber but timestamped to the USARK part

so between that and how he just stresses out all his snakes by needlessly taking them out of their cages and acting high on some sort of drug in 90% of his content, fuck him and fuck the majority of youtuber hots keepers.

@Culled goherping is a uh.. interesting one. he was a naive kid who pretty much got in over his head with reptiles, i think he resented it towards the end but was smart and got out. his channel is a WILD ride now on occasion, recently he just housed some deadbeat discord squatters and i 100% reccomend watching that video saga. but he killed his channel once he stopped covering reptile stuff and is kinda lolcow in his own right basically talking about finances and how he doesn't want to work a real job and is taking out horrible loans for everything, buying a second tesla when he couldnt get approved, etc

in the end he was a glorified reptile flipper i guess? better than a lot of booths you see at expos and he got out before it became a too terrible of a situation, so. he's more contorversial because he's openly a edgy 'conservative' / 'right-winger' (basically he shitposts the ;wrong things') and pissed off half his audience,, the ones that stayed post reptile content. so yeah. that and some people got upset he was stabbing reptile shipping boxes with samurai swords

sorry for the off topic rant but to be on topic fuck jeff for getting a bunch of snakes killed from his own fuckups

OT: you can't access the Flying Doctors? Where the fuck are my donations going, then?

Behold the hubris of man. Spending millions of dollars and the peak of medical technology to save the life of someone who is too stupid too live. I hope they don't find a donor for him. Kidneys are hard to come by and there are far more deserving people who aren't dumb enough to man handle an Australian nope rope.

Well, he's an Auzzie and he'll likely be stuck with a kidney from someone who got a clot shot.
