Ten years later I'm writing books and starting my own company, and what're you up to? Still editing copy.
So Jon Thumb pulled out this card at one point huh? Alright, let me go a bit further detail into why this statement is hilarious, bullshit, and other such things.
Burnside's Folly here has written books, this is true. However, I do not seem to recall him selling any more than like maybe 6 or 7 ever. Plus he uses a very arcane and difficult way to get to his books, which means that he cannot actually easily get customers. He also doesn't push those books at all anymore, and I don't really recall him ever writing a new book past 2007 or so. He'd probably make some dumb excuse on this matter, like claiming things like "muh computer/muh brother", but the thing is, you can design many books using MS word. Hell, a joke book I did once was done via this method. Then this product would be run through to a .pdf converter file (which is free). However, these are things that Thumb, the anti-curious manchild he is, never looked into. In short, his book selling methods are shit, he hasn't put effort into selling them, and he doesn't write no more.
The second component is a pure joke. Chinless Wonder here has made several shells that he lumped with his comics, this is true as well. But once again, he doesn't actually sell them that often. A lot of this has to do with yet again another imbecilic sales scheme of his, where he sells the comic over the mail, expecting the customer to pay up by envelope. Then there's the matter that he never makes or adds new comics to the roster. Belch boy claims extenuating circumstances, like how he needs a cd burner or some shit to get the comics out of his old rig. This once again is positively stupid, since those are dirt fucking cheap, with many products being available for below 50 dollars. On top of that, this still shouldn't affect him, since he should, now that he has that new rig, be uploading to that one specifically. there's also the fact that there are file hosting sites like imgur nowadays. So ultimately we learned that Thumbface is just too damn lazy or doesn't make comics any more. What I'm trying to say is his business failed.
Now on to dissing Mr. Mitchell. He worked as a copy editor, which is one of the most important jobs that you can have at a newspaper or publisher. This is because you go through the paper to see if it was written correctly, fits the mood, and in some cases if it is correct in concept. It is thanks to them that newspapers look professional in a lot of ways. They also get payed fairly decently, a normal copy editor earns about 40k a year. Not too shabby, that's a comfortable middle class life, safely away from the edge of the 15% tax bracket. He also happened to work for the Star-Telegram at this time. Captain Clown mocks this, but the thing is that the Star-Telegram is one of the Dallas- Ft.Worth Metroplex's biggest papers. It on an average day distributes about 200,000 copies. On Sunday, that nearly doubles. So he did get a solid job at a pretty prestigious paper. He actually used his degree for something. What did Sir Fartsalot do with his? Sit on his ass, forget how it works, and rage at shit from two decades ago.
And the best part: He said this to seem like he lives better than Mr. Mitchell. If that was the case, I'd consider it a job well done and feel vindicated. But notice that he doesn't feel that way and is still so fucking mad. Even with "success" you can still see his positive rage.
Sweet has probably never applied for a job in any case.
He said basically that "he gave up on jobs" because he counts the Herald (non-paying resume builder) the gig with mom's beau (where he was actually babysat and had no official position) and the gig with his mom's business (which never started) as jobs he had. The thing is he was likely given 2 of the 3 situations by his mom, and the Herald... well, not to sure. Probably has to do with the fact that he wanted to make newspaper comics or something is my guess.
Other excuses he has used is that he makes more collecting cans on the roadways than at a minimum wage job (lolno), that these jobs are not for him (correct, but not for his reasoning), and I think he's on occasion bragged about being his own employee (which is also a load). What I'm trying to say is that Tanglepubes is a welfare leech, lazy, and is exactly the type of person that most right wing pundits mock for being liberal. He just doesn't see it or want to see it.
