Florida is about to get raped by the largest hurricane it's ever seen. I have unwaivering faith in Florida man's cockroach like ability to survive against all odds. Godspeed FL kiwis.

Update:

Evacuation orders underway
Monroe County (Keys) is under evacuation order. Miami-Dade County is likely to order South Dade and Miami Beach evacuations tomorrow.

Update 2:

The hurricane is so severe it's reading as an earthquake.

My area is currently under a Tornado warning.

Fuck. Me.
This is when checking the radar is really useful, or local weather on tv. We get tornado warnings in my area a lot depending on the time of year. Usually it's in the southeast part of our area and heading south or east, and we're in the northwest, which is useful in knowing whether we need to head to the basement or not.

The wind is starting to pick up over 25 MPH in Melbourne (where I am). We have 2 bathrooms to stay in if we get a tornado watch or warning.

A hand-crank radio is useful if your power goes out, too.

Things are starting to get somewhat dark, wet and windy in Key West, and the Southernmost Point webcam (the home of the indomitable Fred the Shed) barely works. There are still a few dumb locals walking around the waterfront, apparently, and a friggin golf cart just passed near the concrete mark some minutes ago. Also, the streetlights are apparently flickering.
Another stream from that area is this one, and some of its feeds even have sound (with nothing but wind and rain, of course).

EDIT: fixed the link.

i'm getting tornado warnings here, as well.
Irma has been humping cuba for a while and lost strength, but they're saying it could strengthen back up. weather channel claims irma is making the turn for florida now.

Welp, Cuba couldn't keep Irma down for long. Back up to a category 4.

Here in the sandhills region (slightly NE from Tampa), the rain is no longer vertical, but at a 45 degree angle. The calm before the storm.

People are looking at the projected path and going "We're not going to be hit". Strangely they forget that this storm is the size of France.

We're still in the red, but our mobilization point is designed to hold against bombs.

ETA: Welp, it just got gray outside. No more skyline. Hearts out for our servicemen and first responders who have to drive in this madness.

A tornado warning from your phone is one hell of a wake-up call. As of yet, the skies haven't darkened and we have 2 bathrooms just in case.

Radar seems to indicate Central FL is getting its first serious business storm band. Apparently it was already over me?

Landed in Monroe, TN today.

I think we'll be safe here, we're hunkering down for a week.

Good luck down there, Florida Kiwimans.
