Florida is about to get raped by the largest hurricane it's ever seen. I have unwaivering faith in Florida man's cockroach like ability to survive against all odds. Godspeed FL kiwis.

Update:

Evacuation orders underway
Monroe County (Keys) is under evacuation order. Miami-Dade County is likely to order South Dade and Miami Beach evacuations tomorrow.

Update 2:

The hurricane is so severe it's reading as an earthquake.

Cuba's going to get fucked.

The death toll from this is already 1/7 of Harvey's currant total, the majority of them being a variety of Caribbean people. I wouldn't be surprised if its going to beat Harvey by a significant margin before it even makes landfall in the US.

fear not, floridian kiwis, for i have an uplifting story about a survivor of hurricane harvey, known as...

the blue shed of hope

praise be to blue shed, deliver the floridians from irma

Fuck, I though they were wrapping up construction the last time I was there over six years ago. It looks like it's being reimagined into a theme park ride itself.

I've been on I-4 about two months ago and their is still construction. Orlando is a whole lot worse alot of New skyscrapers being built and roads that don't make sence.

It's possibly been said before but -

I hope all Kiwi's in the path of this shit come through OK, please if you can leave do so if you cant take care of yourself and your family - Things can be replaced you can't.

ISIS cunts are celebrating Hurricane Irma as being divine punishment from Allah because America has been fighting against ISIS. What do they call natural disasters in Muslim countries, then?

They always do this, but they call it a Tuesday.
I find it Ironic that the birthplace of Civilisation is now controlled by people who seem to try there hardest to destroy it...

Miami didn't bother taking down cranes and securing construction sites like they're supposed to. It's like Wilma crashing cranes into shit was forgotten about, and Sandy in NYC didn't refresh any memories.

The cranes are pretty safe if they are anchored correctly, the booms are semi retracted and then set to free wheel so they present a small wind profile. Don't get me wrong it would be for the best that they are taken down but it's not always possible so they have to do what they can. In Urban areas I'd be more worried about flying glass ans smaller objects that can be picked up and thrown around than a crain falling.
There would be a risk of shrapnel hitting the structure and damaging it to the point where it comes down. Large cranes might even be safer than small ones, as their frames are sturdier and have larger spaces between the poles. The main risk from the cranes, regardless of size, is from the anchoring. If whatever the crane is is situated on is damaged, then chances are good that the crane will fall.

Personally, in that sort of situation I'd be much more frightened of cables and chains being damaged and coming loose. A small, portable crane, no higher than three stories high, still has chains thicker than my wrist and hooks larger than my fist. Lethal. Absolutely lethal. Obviously the crews will strip anything they can, and tighten what they can't, but there's limits to what can be done.

So exactly I-4 through downtown Orlando to Seminole county, got it.
There's also the Majesty building on I-4 that probably won't make it. Since tall buildings like these aren't built to survive 160mp winds or higher

NOT THE RYUGYONG USA! YOU MONSTER!

Once you have lived through five or six of these like I have even the most dangerous tend to feel routine. As I am nothing next to the power of Florida Man, I have no doubt he'll be riding flying construction cranes over the Caribbean to claim new American territory by the end of it. Dolphins may or not come.

Couldn't get the horse up to the friend due to the evac traffic and friend didn't want to take her anyway because she stopped eating (probably out of stress; only time will tell if she's colicy or what), so looks like she's going to have to endure. Whatever happens...happens. It's not ideal, but we have no other options.

I got my machete and a makeshift bunker in my closet and an emergency duffel full of skivvy rolls.

Godspeed, fellow Florida Men. I been weathering these since Andrew in '92, but some years are always worse than others.

We need to build a massive wall along our southern coast that reaches up into the mid-atmosphere to prevent any illegal hurricanes from entering our country.

Alternatively, we could just drone strike it.

Everything is supposed have been replaced with hurricane-resistant glass, so we'll see.

In downtown Miami, regulations call for hurricane resistant glass up to 30 feet high, which is the level that most trees and debris are contained to. But photos of downtown Miami after Andrew show that windows in office towers were blown out from top to bottom.
I'm pretty sure the article meant Wilma, because Andrew didn't hit Miami proper and vicinity too much. Andrew was in South Dade, of course further down south into Cutler Bay and Homestead/Florida City.

Probably already known by now since it was expected, but Irma's dropped to Category 4. Stay safe, Floridian Kiwis.
