British MP shot and stabbed - Confirmed dead

Cliff notes version:

Leeds based MP Jo Cox was holding her usual surgery at a library in her constituency when a disturbance was heard outside, she found two men in an altercation and attempted to intervene.

One man pulled a gun from his bag and shot the MP twice before fleeing the scene. A 52 year old man has since been arrested.

This is all that has been confirmed and both sides of the referendum campaign have agreed to suspend their battle buses and general campaigning for the day.

Sordid Rumour Mill Version:

One eye witness claims to man screamed out "Britain First". This is being repeated by people who weren't actually present and was even Tweeted out by Maria Eagle, another Remain MP who was some 70 miles away when this situation occurred.

The BBC is refusing to repeat the man shouting out this phrase due to lack of solid confirmation.

Another claims he was "kicking her continuously on the ground" before walking away from the scene "slowly and calmly" nobody stopping him because he was armed.

Tin Hat Brigade is already claiming it was some sort of establishment false flag operation to try and tarnish the current Leave lead in the polls after all other efforts appear to be failing.

I've never even heard of the National Alliance.

I've heard of the National Front and Combat 18, the latter was basically a skinhead fighting group for the former.

Both vanished in the late 80s.

This was replaced with the British National Party, and in recent years Britain First.

So this guy was busy supporting US based neo nazi groups? wtf?

I mean I can still see the intelligentsia being a bunch of cunts on this but this is genuinely going from the tragic to the bizarre.

Just going to nick this image from Guido once again, it seems most papers are dropping the initial far-right connections and focusing on the fact Mair was mentally ill.

The story behind this guy seems to be getting weirder and weirder. He scrubbed himself with Brillo pads in order to stay clean...

Other reports stay conflicting, people describe the gun used as either a pipe weapon (which National Alliance sells the blueprints to) or it was a musket-type weapon. Or a sawn off shotgun.

The injuries sustained though have now been confirmed. Three gunshot wounds (one to the head) and seven stab wounds.

Close friend of the MP, fellow MP Rachel Reeves is asking people not to link Jo's death to the referendum debate.

EDIT: One of the witnesses who claimed to have heard Mair shout "Britain First" has now recanted his statement.

Do you have a source for this? I've heard far too many people talking about him as a 'Britain First terrorist', or a 'Britain First assassin', which is even more stupid.

It's sort of spread across so many stories as a single line. A lot of news outlets have dropped the claim altogether due to the increasingly shaky sounding veracity, or parcelled it off to a different story away from the main one.

DM still has this story up naming the two witnesses I heard it stated on the BBC news during its live broadcasting.
 
Whether he shouted "Britain First" or not is completely irrelevent, his motivation for the attack is crystal clear. It was politically motivated terrorism. People pretending otherwise are no better than the average muslim who automatically goes into "Islam is blameless" mode everytime some fanatic dares to implement it's clearly stated tenets and goals.
