Cliff notes version:

Leeds based MP Jo Cox was holding her usual surgery at a library in her constituency when a disturbance was heard outside, she found two men in an altercation and attempted to intervene.

One man pulled a gun from his bag and shot the MP twice before fleeing the scene. A 52 year old man has since been arrested.

This is all that has been confirmed and both sides of the referendum campaign have agreed to suspend their battle buses and general campaigning for the day.

Sordid Rumour Mill Version:

One eye witness claims to man screamed out "Britain First". This is being repeated by people who weren't actually present and was even Tweeted out by Maria Eagle, another Remain MP who was some 70 miles away when this situation occurred.

The BBC is refusing to repeat the man shouting out this phrase due to lack of solid confirmation.

Another claims he was "kicking her continuously on the ground" before walking away from the scene "slowly and calmly" nobody stopping him because he was armed.

Tin Hat Brigade is already claiming it was some sort of establishment false flag operation to try and tarnish the current Leave lead in the polls after all other efforts appear to be failing.

Another man was also injured but it seems to be he's in a more stable condition and may in time, shed light on the matter.

The press is obviously asking what the hell happened, but the Acting Chief Constable is doing very well pointing out that the inquiry has only just begun, and that high visibility patrols are underway in the town to help reassure people.

Jeremy Corbyn has now issued a statement that expresses his shock at this horrific murder. Her universal liking by Westminster is also noted by Corbyn.

The last MP murdered while in office was Sir Donald Kaberry by the PIRA back in 1991.

Some 25 years ago.

However the last attempt was in 2010, Stephen Timms, also in his surgery, but his attempted murder was clearly politically motivated.

BBC keeps trying to get some sort of EU referendum reaction out of people, they just tried Grayling earlier, and then another MP just now.

Both have said that it was an issue that set aside party politics and is a tragedy that transcends the current campaigning issues.

Really?

I'm listening to the live cast now and all they're talking about is the security of MPs.

At least either sides politicians are not spinning this yet, but I can guess both sides PR teams are digging into this.

Because the MPs are shutting them down each time they try and talk about it because of how popular she was on both sides of the EU referendum debate.

This is because she tended to be highly principled and was a good networker which made her very popular very quickly. She was campaigning for better treatment of Syrian refugees and the treatment of people with autism.

It's something that does transcend the current issue of the day, and the moment they shut them down, the BBC moves straight onto talking about MP security.

EDIT: BBC finally mentioned the shooter allegedly shouting "Britain first" only to then mention the police did not confirm this being said.

Kinda weird she was shot in Britain,i would expect a stabbing or some other melee weapon...

Firearms are very rare but it is possible to get your hands on certain types. Some witnesses seem to be saying that it was a kind of improvised/self made weapon.

Brendan Cox has issued a statement asking for love for his children and to "Unite against hatred. Hate has no race, colour or creed."

It's possible to own Gun's in the UK just certain types are banned outright or HEAVILY restricted, to have a FAC or SGC involves alot of basic law knowledge and intensive background checks that are a nightmare to pass at times, and you have periodic checks on your security an storage.

Most firearms crime in the UK is either Improvised weapons (including reactivated weapons), Stolen from legitimate owners (or ironically the MOD) or war holdovers, and the ammunition is generally either stolen or old as in really old.

Actually London and Brum have been manufacturing small amounts of bullets in some garages.

The other guy attacked was 77 years old.

Just to give some context over what has been going on and the allegations of Britain First being somehow involved do prove true, the likely end result is that Britain First will become a proscribed organization. Similar to how Hizbut Ur Tahir are now banned from British Public life.

From what I've heard the guy has had a long history of mental illness. Not like "he was a disturbed guy" but more like "on heavy medication and going in and out of adult day care centres" kind of mental. The Britain First seems either fiction or a mishearing of "put Britain first" at this point but of course that's not going to stop the Remain camp from hoisting it up as truth.
It's already begun.

In fairness, Jean Claude Juncker posted a tweet stating his condolences and he was flooded with Leave people calling him a cunt and an opportunist. Which I feel is a little unfair.
