Revice Episode 4:

Actually a nice little character development episode. Ikki's not-girlfriend Ayaka sells her soul to her inner devil and powers up because her mom ignored her in favor of her little sister, even when Ayaka had been kidnapped. Daiji gets mad at Ikki for acting like a part-time Kamen Rider and being more worried about the bathhouse than saving civilians. Ikki responds that Daiji is just mad that he can't even HENSHIN. Ikki's mom tells him to not be an impulsive asshole and think about what could happen to other people if he goes does his own thing. Daiji listens in and forgives Ikki.

A cheap CGI chase through the city ensues. Ikki then cures Ayaka of her demon possession by Rider Kicking her square in the fucking chest.

Daiji gives Ikki the complete Revice Rider System. Vice notices that Ikki has vanished from a picture with Daiji and laughs.

Ikki is starting to grow on me. Vice, not so much. It seems like they are pulling inspiration from various early Heisei series (Kuuga, 555, and Blade is particular) without the dangerous stakes (like Kaijin actually killing people).

Started getting properly into tokusatsu shows this year, beginning with the original Kamen Rider. I'm drawn mostly to the showa era because of the costumes and music, though I will likely check out the newer installments eventually. I'm currently going through V3 and Gorenger, the kaijin are glorious.

Just wait until you get to Kamen Rider X. The monsters in that show are combinations of historical figures and animals. Starfish Hitler has to be seen to be believed.

One of the most bizarre monster designs in KR history, though Sentai's Fuhrer Crocodile was even more on the nose, since he was actually giving people the gas.

The 80s are, imo, the pinnacle of toku. Pre-CGI, they finally figured out how to make rubber costumes that don't look like shit, and they weren't yet too scared to throw a 16 year-old off a skyscraper for a good shot.

where's the new rider, is he behind Ghost?

also Shin Kamen Rider - A Hideaki Anno Film
I don't necessarily hate what it's doing or anything but like, is Anno just taking some legit budget, pocketing it, and filming some random nobudget shit like the OG tv but it's slightly lol no it's literally exactly the original show?
Maybe there's near the end of the second act when it goes into some crazy Electric Dragon shit or something?

What is the current verdict for Revice? Haven't watch any toku show again for a while, wondering if Revice is good to return to Tokusatsu

Revice seems to be getting better by episode. It's too early to say, but so far it's good at best, mostly okay to unbearable otherwise. Some characters seem like they could be interesting and the same goes for the antagonists but there's not much going for it otherwise. The Legendary Rider forms seem very tacked on but I appreciate that they make some sense in the actual show. Other than Vice being very unfunny and the pacing of the episodes being way too fast there's nothing egregiously bad about it. It's a decent timewaster but nothing about it stands out enough to make it really good.

Revice 6:

New Rider (Evil?) confirmed as Daiji.

Standard issue monster-of-the-week mostly.

One of the Deadmans bosses, Fulio, is targeting Ikki's sister at her Karate dojo.

Daiji's demon, Kagerou, has apparently taken over his body and joined the Deadmans.

Other stuff:

I'm rewatching Kuuga on Roku. The story holds up pretty well as Rider series/crime drama. Yusuke Godai is the likable everyman and friend-to-all-living-things. The Gurongi are straight-forward villains who are presented as a threat to humanity from the get-go, killing the Linto so they can climb the ranks of the tribe. Kuuga is unwittingly playing the game along with them, as the more Gurongi he kills, the stronger he becomes. Also, it's refreshing to rewatch a KR series that isn't constantly introducing new forms, but upgrades into Rising as his powers increase.

Revice 7:

Daiji's demon Kagerou was from his resentment for Ikki and promises to kill Ikki for Daiji's sake, whether he likes it or not.

Daiji's former commander Hiromi takes responsibility for Daiji's instability and is given the Demons Driver to stop him, transforming him into Spider-Man...I mean, Kamen Rider Demons.

Ikki gets a new Jackals Form. Vice turns into a skateboard. Beats up a doctor who doesn't want the police to arrest his gymnast-turned-skater-punk son.

Thanks to the power of brotherly love and Rider Kick, Daiji's new form, Kamen Rider Live.

Any good first Kamen Rider show recommendation? I tried to watch the one by Urobutcher but the cringe with the dance groups was too hard.

Have there actually been any disc releases of Kamen Rider (or other toku) outside of Japan?
Yeah, Shout Factory is releasing Kamen Rider in the US on disc. They started with Kamen Rider Zero One. They've also released quite a few Sentai series as well. Mill Creek is doing an okay job at releasing all the Ultra stuff too, although sometimes they have really garbage subs like their Gridman release.
