Although it presently falls under "unconfirmed shit on the internet", I've seen it alleged that the democratic-leaning states whose leaders favor SJW-type prison reforms have been the ones to push early release for prisoners in the name of keeping them from contracting the coof behind bars while saying this situation could have been avoided if said prisoners weren't unjustly put in jail in the first place. This is probably my biggest issue with the quarantines/lockdowns. We don't have a coherent response based on science, where some states or areas have a measured response based on some sort of data. Instead we have local people down to the Deputy Cletus level interpreting measures of safety "for the good of the public" based on feels, or personal power or psychological inadequacies. You have politicians using this as a way to get their agendas passed by force, whether or not it has meaningful effect on spread.
The other thing that doesn't help is the flow of contradictory information and misinformation. Even though Governor Whitmer was quick to discredit the picture of the car seat not for sale as a fake in the speech she made today (13-Apr), few officials if any have done much to address unsubstantiated rumors and conflicting information spreading about as rapidly as the virus itself. With people pent up at home, often jobless, and often unable to do much due to restrictions on what can be bought in stores or shipped to their homes, any sort of assurance that there's a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel could be reassuring. Instead, they hear the same generic bullet points about staying safe and obeying restrictions. With the exception of posts made here, few leaders even seem willing to discuss the topic of what kind of time table might be in place to gradually lift restrictions to get things as close to normal as possible while working to minimize the impact of a resurge/second wave of the coof.
