Why Conservatives Are Flipping Out Over ‘Cocomelon’

The “anti-woke” crusaders are coming after Netflix’s animated preschooler show Cocomelon.

Netflix’s Cocomelon is a huge hit among the two-year-old and over demographic. The brightly colored animated series focuses on preschooler issues like missing your parents while at school and how to share toys. Instead of solving things through talking, they relay everything through songs. Every song sounds similar to a lullaby or another popular kids song, with the words sometimes altered to better fit the scenario in the show. It may not be enjoyable for parents, but kids adore it. Cocomelonconsistently lands on Netflix’s top 10 streamed series list.

The spinoff series, Cocomelon Lane, recently became the target of angry conservatives. Cocomelon Lane is essentially the same as Cocomelon, even featuring the same characters, only it has more dialogue and story. Netflix released the episode in question back in November, but it caught the attention of the “anti-woke” crowd in December when a clip of Cocomelon Lane hit the social media platform X.

Conservatives create Cocomelon “controversy”

The “controversial” clip shows a little boy trying to decide what to wear for a fun photo shoot. The boy has his choice of costumes, but can’t decide what would be best. He asks his two dads which outfit he should wear. They sing a song called “Just Be You,” and encourage their son to wear something that represents him. Since he likes being helpful, they suggest a firefighter costume. He likes to cook, so he puts on a chef’s outfit. He cycles through various outfits while taking pictures. The boy also likes to dance. For a brief moment, he dances like a ballerina in a tutu and a tiara before finally deciding on a mashup of a bunch of different hats.
The short clip of the boy wearing the tiara and tutu while dancing for his two dads has enraged conservatives. We will not link to the angry tweets but they include reactions like “I would put these people in prison,” “This is disgusting,” and “Netflix deserves the Bud Light treatment.” They argue this scene is meant to appease the “woke” crowd by dressing a boy up “like a girl.” Conservatives worry this may indoctrinate toddlers since Cocomelon is so popular amongst that age group. Plus the child has two dads who care about their son, and that is “too woke” for conservatives to handle.

Of course, right-wing social media wouldignite with outrage over a kid playing dress up. Anyone who has been around a preschooler playing dress-up would realize this is completely natural behavior. Children grab whatever they think looks interesting or fits what they are trying to act out. “Ballerinas” and “dancing” are almost synonymous to children, so a tutu and tiara fit the idea of dancing. The conservatives are ignoring the other outfits that are traditionally considered masculine in their precious gender binary. They also seem to miss Cocomelon‘s message to love your child and encourage them to be themselves, no matter what that looks like.

In other words, it either didn't happen or you're exaggerating about 5 randos on Twitter.

At least when Bugs Bunny wore a tutu it was played off as a joke. This crap looks 100% AI written and drawn. Apparently they just laid off most of their writing staff too.

Cocomelon, the shorts, were pretty inoffensive and wholesome edutainment. My kids love it. When Cocomelon Lane came out and I saw the two dads situation, I was legitimately saddened. Hell, they even made the two dad an interracial relationship and gave the white one the most stereotypical gay voice imaginable.

They just can't fucking help themselves. Welp, now the kids can only watch Bebefin and Little Angel, shows that are very obviously produced by some Asian animation sweatshop. At least Asians don't have time for that shit...

I am literally shaking that this sort of transphobic hate speech is allowed. Everyone, especially the experts, knows that the decision of a 2 year old to don a dress is NOT some sort of random bit of play acting but a TRUE AND HONEST expression of their gender identity as a tans or possibly non-binary folx. The BIGOT who wrote these lies should be jailed for promoting fascist white supremacist hate speech.

Etc.

Random Person: Sees shit, changes channel
The Mary Sue: "Here's another article about why those dastardly CONSERVAHITLERS is flipping out over this INSERT CONTENT FARM PRODUCT!!!!!!"

Weren't journos previously fearmongering about cocomelon? So now it's good to give the kids supposedly brainrotting content because it has gay dads and it's now "conservatives" that always viewed it as bad?

Do not let your kids watch Cocomelon, it’s actively harmful. Beyond the fag shit above, kids kind of go in to a daze when it’s on. 80’s Sesame Street, Mr Rogers and Reading Rainbow are far better if your kid has to watch something. Modern children’s programs are so insidious, I don’t allow any of them.

90's and early 2000's Blue's Clues was pretty great.

My kids enjoy OG Blue's Clues from the 90s. The 2019 reboot has troon shit in it so that's a no from me but the 90s run is still pretty solid.

Speaking as a conservative, I have no idea what a "Cocomelon" is, but it sounds like some faggot shit.

I know parents doing what they should do, monitoring their kids, upsets SJWs. The thing to focus on is, why?

I watched the scene to see what the fuss is about and found it disturbing.

It's not just a kid in a tutu, his "dads" are telling him to go get in front of apparently a photography or video studio they have in their home so that they can take pictures of him dancing in a diaper and tutu. They tell him this means they love him.
