I'm excited for the next major update. Some friends and I are gonna be running a server and having fun.

hes right behind me isnt he.png

Why do I hear boss music?

Friend of mine told me about this game, scratching the minecraft itch for him.
As someone who isn't big into building, but does find the survival aspect interesting, would it be recommended to get into?
I'm a fan of Daggerfall, and it does seem closer to Daggerfall vs minecraft was (might just be my autism overthinking)...

I recommend looking for additional survival mods. Some have already been mentioned here.
This reminds me that i should get back into this game with proper vanilla rules.

The survival mechanics in the vanilla gameplay are already pretty complex. You can totally throw in some mods, but I don't even think it's necessary to start out.

Opinions on 1.20?

Personally started my first actual playthrough, after a year, with a couple of mods, genuinely amazing so far.

I hear so many good things about 1.20, gotta get back into the game.
Is it save compatible?

The new monsters make caves terrifying for me. I am a massive pussy and don't want to go down there now.
Are you the type of person who turns ambient sounds in Minecraft all the down? Because I certainly am, monsters ain't shit but I can't handle that ambient sound shit, waiting for a mod for VT that adds those sounds so I can shit myself. And in case anyone can't afford VT since it's never going on sale (which is fair, it's $20 and pretty much a highly functional beta) the folks at csrinru have the latest version.

Don't turn them down myself, I don't find them very scary - because there's really nothing to be afraid of.

Vintage Story manages to creep me out without them, because I know there might be a monster that one shots me because I don't have armor on or something.

In a sense, I feel like the lack of any "scary" cave noises helps the atmosphere. All you can really hear is some stone rubble moving occasionally, that's about it - it's dead, quiet, until you see a bit of something moving, just hidden by the darkness enough to where you may not be sure what it is, but you can probably guess it's not friendly.

Wish i´ve seen this before buying it.

Can´t complain though since the gameplay is smooth unlike MC.

I shit bricks when I saw a bowtorn for the first time because I was exploring a cave ruin, turned around, saw it through the door and it immediately creeped back around the corner like it was stalking me and got caught. I didn't even know what it was, I just updated the game blind (highly recommend).

I went out very carefully to confront it but it had gone deeper into a dark section of the cave and started to throw projectiles any time I peaked down. I threw in the towel and just dug my way back to the surface rather than try to fight my way through the cave. Almost broke all of my tools doing it.

Sadly when I found one out on the surface from a rift and fought it I found that they're really not intimidating, they're just slow minecraft skeletons. The nightmare versions still do a fuck ton of damage, but I wish that they were more intimidating. My estimation of them totally deflated after actually fighting them.

Maybe they could give them a quick reposition behavior and a "get away from me" melee attack so they're not as easy to bully at close range.

They do have a melee, and do run away. I do not think they'll make them more intimidating, though - since they're mainly meant to be "ranged support".

Bowtorns are one thing, the Shivers though...
