Finally got my Copper Pickaxe + Hammer after deciding to deal with the panning RNG to get the rest.

Shit feels pretty great, an actual achievement even though i cheesed it by getting brown coal from a pot.

That's not cheesing, and it's pretty easy to make charcoal just a little tedious gathering saplings and replanting trees if you're not trying to deforest your world. You can see why IRL charcoal pits caused deforestation in a lot of places
I don´t mind turning my area into Haiti, i just didn´t wanna chop that amount of wood at first for 2 copper ingots.

I found out later that trees that are planted next to each other go down together
Lignite seems quite common, and can be used as a substitute for charcoal when it comes to smelting.
I'm starting this game blind and i don't know what half of the stuff i pick up do.

Edit: Are your usernames supposed to be fitting so well?

Tapping H while hovering with your cursor over it in the inventory opens the handbook entry. Can also search by name - really helpful.

having the wiki and crafting recipies in-game as the handbook was a really good idea.

Many times I got something and thought "what the hell do I use this for"?! and found everything by pressing H on it

I found the Chisel.

It lets me remove the voxels of blocks and potentially make sculptures, write on walls and who knows what else.

I can see how that is gonna be addicting.
Some of the stuff I've seen people build is amazing.
Don't trust myself with it, but go for it - could end up with a few gems.

you can use it to put a swastika in every block in your house FYI.

Will the devs ever touch up the classes?

Except for Commoner, Hunter & Blackguard the others have more negatives than positives.

My current class is Hunter and world tweaks have less hunger, 300% mining & tree sprouting speed. I tried playing as Clockmaker but the downsides were too big for that Locust tool & -1 temporal gear

Already wasted my time making sure my cooking corner is looking fancy and making smooth stairs go into the charcoal pit.

VS really made me play through the night into the morning and i still got stuff i want to chisel.

I have to rework my house's outside appearance since it's just a mix of different logs + thatch roof

I think the issue with the classes is that the benefits are quite specific, meanwhile the downsides very general or the benefits/cool stuff only comes into play at certain gane stages.

Sure the Clockmaker being able to have minions is cool, but how often does that happen? How often do you fight automatons?

The Blackguard works decent since he gets buffs to combat, which is quite common. Thing is: the blackguard equipment which is cool is only available when you get iron, and is then phased out for steel.
The class specific crafting recipe only being available for a single age is kind of iffy.

Something like the archer/hunter or whoever has the bows having multiple recipes available during different stages is great.

The classes definitely need touching up, I'm playing with a buddy right now and he's a hunter and I'm a tailor. The game seems like it would be infinitely more fun playing it as a village with different players adopting different roles, I'm considering loading up a server with mods that play into the idea of running a village and starting a kiwifarms vintage story server. I don't think many people would join but the game is comfy and deep enough that I think it would be fun.

Multiplayer is always making things more fun. I'd be willing to play the Clockmaker or another weak class if i had a group i could leech food from.

So far i managed to reach the Iron Age and managed to make my rooftop out of black & red shiglets.

I've actually been digging through the mod list and I've noticed most of the class mods focus on making new classes which do production tasks better like lumberjack, Smith, alchemist, cook, mason. That sort of thing. I personally think that the vanilla class system is extremely undercooked and focused on the wrong things, it should basically be like choosing your main profession.

Wish I could host a Kiwifarms VS server, that would be pretty fun. Either vanilla or with some basic mods like the class mods.

I figured I would essentially get one whenever I'm comfortable enough in my finances and schedule to pay for one and play on it consistently and then announce it in the community happenings thread when I have it up. As long as some group of people whether that be a half dozen or more consistently likes it I figure that would be worth it.

One of the mods I looked at is about running shops and currency so we could mint our own kiwi coins. It's got enough good RP mechanics and community building potentials to mesh into a community ran server well. Unlike TF2 a new guy from the forum isn't just a good scout or demoman, he's your blacksmith, or your tailor, or he runs your general goods shop. Its the most literal type of community building you can do in a video game. And I think the games about to get more popular as I've seen bigger names talk about it recently.

I think it's a perfect almost tailor made game for a community server.

Ha, I've been thinking of doing the same thing at some point. What's your current idea for a server?
I have zero experience with server hosting, but looking at this page, some of these providers have discounts + mod support unlike the dev offerings. I can only assume mod support is available for these unless stated otherwise, but again, idk. Another issue is if we want to do NA or EU hosting.
Lastly, we're gonna have to decide on mods, and sadly, test the fuck out of them. Last server I played on with Medieval Expansion had the waterwheels gimped to 30% efficiency due to some weird mod conflict. It was a really cool mod, but man it was a lot of iron plates and a lot of disappointment.
