I love the concept behind this but I can't risk getting sucked into mineycrafta again...

but I can't risk getting sucked into mineycrafta again...
Why not? I mean, modded is pretty much the only time I will play Minecraft but Vintage Story is something worth getting sucked off into. It's still niche so it isn't really normie infested just yet, doubt it will be either. Also nice to see some interest in VS suddenly in this thread, was dead for a while.

That feel when you hit an absolute motherload of resources from mining.
:story:
Minecraft doesn't hit like this game does. Makes you appreciate your tools and buildings despite the learning curve.

Was just thinking this last night. In Minecraft a tool is nothing because it requires (effectively) nothing, no investment. In Vintage Story, my pickaxe is the culmination of hours of hard work and resource management. I had the same feeling when I figured out how to bake bread, like holy shit dude. I HAVE BREAD. Meanwhile in Minecraft you have a full stack of bread within 30 minutes of starting the game.

This game rocks. Just wish I could stop getting killed by wolves that pop out of my ass while I looking for mineral deposits lol.

I wasted a lot of my youth playing with brown bricks. I can't waste my adult life too!!! I need to gossip about people instead!!!

That's really the one issue the game has. Minecraft combat sucks in the first place and there was really no reason to stick so closely with that style, and the temporal whatever enemies especially (and temporal storms themselves, despite how super cool and atmospheric they are) are basically placeholders at this point. Really annoying placeholders. It'll be an immediate improvement the moment they get around to diversifying the foes a bit instead of all of them acting as both melee brutes AND snipers.

I'd like a total overhaul of animal behaviour/hunting too but that's asking for too much.

Time to necro the thread to ask a question is it worth getting into now or should I wait till 1.20 also any good mod recommendations?
This is the first game I've played in a while where the mods feel truly "extra" rather than necessary fixes. If you're looking to play modded though, I'd recommend Primitive Survival, adds a bunch of nice stuff like fishing, traps, worms, snakes, crabs, just more things to make you feel like a true unga out to get his bunga.

You can always "try" it. You can get the installer and a cracked dll easily.

Agreed, feels like a feature complete game and mods are doing what they should do: add new things. I think some of the stuff from Primitive Survival should be base game because they're that good but otherwise going modless is very much enjoyable.

Thank you based fren for bumping this thread I decided to check the game out and now I'm having a blast in multiplayer with the boys yelling slurs at each other as we try to not starve to death.
Thank everyone else for participating. Hope you're having a good time.

Minecraft doesn't hit like this game does.
Minecraft USED to hit like this. Guaranteed if you came back to earlier versions, your struggle to survive wouldn't be that much smaller compared to the struggle you went through as a kid. They just never figured out if they want a RPG, a survival, a sandbox, or something else, so we have a bit of everything now. Also, I see that people are now pushing for normalizing the keep inventory gamerule and you're called a tryhard for saying it's gay. Nigga, you can have a full iron armor + shield in like the first 15 minutes of booting up a world. By that point the only real threat are brutes in the nether. Even on hard death doesn't find you often, if at all.
Vintage story looks cool as hell. Gorgeous artstyle, a bit more hardcore which means no troons and no normies. I've seen a lot of it in like 2019, but only recently after watching a few vids I have realized just how much of a gem it is. Just gotta convince my bros to play a non-steam game. I know one of them will make a negro character and we will laugh about it for hours.

Oh hey a new post.
Minecraft USED to hit like this.
1.2.5 first time playing (I think, its been years so it might have been earlier), first time getting into mods, I get that the first time is either going to be the best or worst time but fuck me it got so much worse over the years. Better at times, worse usually.

Sometimes I don't see the point of the rule unless in specific cases. If you die in nu-Minecraft it's usually because it's your fault. Combat is trivial, be careful with heights, bring a door, fence, torch, or break a block above you while underwater and you won't drown, I could go on. It only really makes sense if you have some form of issue that prevents you from making good decisions (like if you're just a retard), you're a toddler, for map purposes, or with some super hard modded Minecraft which would also defeat the point of playing this hard modpack if there's not much real punishment to dying, unless the difficulty comes from the non-combat mechanics. The people trying to normalize it and the people trying to tell others not to use it are both gay since it's your choice in the end anyway unless you're hosting a server and most people want it on/off.

Definitely, even better with people but by itself it's great too. Mods on top of that if you want more or to fill in some gaps. Regarding troons and normies, you're mostly right. You can't escape either no matter what but I've barely noticed any, mostly if you're interacting with plebbit or dickswords related to the game. I've made a point several times about autists, troons, niche games and mods going hand in hand but thankfully it doesn't apply much to the game.

I think what convinced me the most to return to the game was Rimmy's video and streams on it, not much on the actual game but more on how much you can do with other players. Going back into the game and seeing how much the game has developed since I first played was very nice.
I know one of them will make a negro character and we will laugh about it for hours.
"Ja'Quavious Vantablack, Tyrone for short."

I love this game so much you wouldn't believe.

Post your builds!

Here is my second world, completely lost my first sadly... but I got this done in under 2 in-game years.

I have to get back to this game again. Hopefully the mods i have installed still work.

I bought this like 18mo ago but I had some.issue getting it to launch, can't remember what. I'll have to try again.

Any reccomended tech mods (more in the style of build-craft, industrial-craft, thermal series etc - more 1.7.10 style than create style, basically)
