Ultimately, developers are proof why they need a boot pressing down on their neck constantly. Without a Kotick to brutalize them like they're in a Soviet gulag they either faff about wasting time and money, or try to educate everyone on true communism while cashing in the fat check the corporate overlords send their way every month.
This has absolutely been the case for decades. Chris Roberts is a great example of this. Lots of complaining about him halfassing doing any work when he was at Origin, then it happened again with Freelancer after Starlancer did ok, and he needed Microsoft's boot on his neck to stop the scope creep and get that out the door. Then 10 years later we got a kickstarter for Star Citizen where Chris Roberts was finally the one in charge, and now 12 years after the kickstarter it's still nowhere near done.

Or John Romero with Daikatana. He founded Ion Storm with 5 other people, then proceeded to fire 4 of them over the next few years for various reasons(1 was legit, as he got fired for using company money to buy a car). Spent a bunch of money on stupid marketing, under-delivered a buggy mess, quit, and then spent the next 20 years working for random companies with a boot on his neck so shit got done. Carmack allegedly had a script on Romero's computer to alert him when he was fucking around playing games instead of getting work done at ID.

Peter Molyneux, notorious asshole and slacker, got told to quit Lionhead studios after Microsoft was fed up with wasting money on his shit, only had a failed kickstarter and steam early access game that got pulled eventually over the past decade plus.

Mike Morhaime from Blizzard, published a couple of chinese games, released 2 flops this year, and he's already doing layoffs since Sunderfolk peaked at barely above concord player counts on steam and Wildgate released at the end of July died in 2 weeks.

Leslie Benzies of Grand Theft Auto fame got booted, and released Mindseye. That's all I need to say about him.

But yeah, this has been a problem going back to the 90s. These developers and designers need someone who is actually business savvy to keep them reigned in, otherwise nothing gets done. And that can't happen when the publishers have gotten as fucking retarded as they have over the past 10-15 years.

Even worse than that, MicroSoft only managed to get anything done when he got ousted from the project entierly.

Spent a bunch of money on stupid marketing, under-delivered a buggy mess, quit, and then spent the next 20 years working for random companies with a boot on his neck so shit got done.
Let's not forget that he pimped his then girlfriend to do a nude Playboy shoot to raise more money for Daikatana. He also kept hiring modders to work on the project, only to discover that terminally online autists don't make for good employees.

There's also the grand Jew of gaming, Ken Levine, that is notorious for mismanaging all his projects, rumored to have been forced by the publisher to cut almost half of the content made for BioShock Infinite (and that's after he kept rejecting finished content time and again) just so they could shit the game out the door. (((Why))) he is being allowed to make Judas is beyond me.

Another kike, Warren Spector, notorious for being so computer-illiterate that the cheat for EMP in Deus Ex is his name proceeded to fumble two games for Disney, shit out Underworld Ascendant, fail to shit out System Shock 3, and is now attached to another two projects in dev hell.

Turns out most of these auteurs are just worthless idea guys utterly incapable of accomplishing anything worthwhile without a dedicated and talented team around them to turn their ideas into a functional game.

Why does your choice of clan matter at all if it's in first person perspective and there are no RPG stats or clan specific abilities?

Like what does choosing one clan over another actually do?

Just fucking cancel it.

Absolutely, but all of the talented devs in the world working for them doesn't accomplish anything without someone who actually knows how to manage a project and company is keeping an eye on them. Instead, the people who should be running the business are focused on all of the DEI, ethnic resource group, constantly counting how many minorities and women are working there, setting up kwanzaa parties in the office break room, etc.

They shouldn't even charge full AAA price or anything at this point. Sell it for a decent low price and just take the loss. It's obviously a rushed job that somehow has less feature and content than the first ever did. and that shit came out almost 2 decades ago!

It just sucks so much that Paradox owns the IP rights for video games. So much wasted potential in game ideas they could've done with the Ip, even smaller AA or low budget ones.

Hopefully on September 17 they make new announcements like they said they would, hopefully the game adds a inventory and third person and more rpg elements. I was surprised it was first person only and no inventory. The first game you had a inventory and could hold, blood bags to drink to get back health. During a boss fight I would usually need to drink at least one blood bag during it. I don’t understand not letting the player hold guns or melee weapons. They wanted to do a animation where a gun hovers over your hand?? Okay but, they shouldn’t take away your ability to hold and have guns tho! I feel like I’m going insane here how could they take away a rpg games inventory system and no allow you to hold items. Skyrim let you have third person or first person view. And you could zoom in on your face on Skyrim too. And oblivion you could zoom in on your face. But strangely on the oblivion remaster you could zoom in on your face anymore. On vampire bloodlines 1 you could have a third person view but couldn’t swing the camera around to see your face. They need third person view and the ability to zoom the camera in on your face. And also character customization. And they need to add malkavian as a playable clan. And put the malkavian girl in the game. If they do all that, this game will be really well received and have high sales.

[John Romero] also kept hiring modders to work on the project,
Uhm... Team Fortress, CTF and other shit was doing pretty good so it wasn't such a bad idea at the time... They hired people that love these games, unlike now where they hire people that despise the games and their audience.

TCR, or The Chinese Room are notorious walking sim makers, not really the people you go to for RPGs. They probably got handed whatever Hardsuit Labs had and tooled it to their liking, I don't have insight into the development under TCR but what I expect is they took the story from HSL and made the most changes to that, with the gameplay being a secondary to them.

The funniest part is that this isn't even the actual Chinese Room, everyone working for it was fired years ago. This is basically a wholly new team skinwalking as the Chinese Room.

I genuinely have no idea why Paradox even bothered resurrecting the company, not like anyone gives a fuck about any of their games.

I can't even blame them for the hack job. They were probably just handed over the project and whatever assets the first bunch of retards had managed to shit out and told to cobble together a game out of it by a set date... or else.

While I do not have any particular love for the previous and current incarnation of TCR, I am a bit upset that they will get the lion share of the blame and mockery for this travesty, while the morons at HBS will get away mostly scot-free.

You keep saying HBS. The original studio wasn’t Hair Brained Schemes, it was Hardsuit Labs.

Right you are.

Apologies for the mixup. Seems to be happening to be a lot lately - in the Ubisoft thread I kept calling Beyond Good and Evil 2 as Black and White 2.

now 12 years after the kickstarter
I don't know why but it kinda feels even longer. Still no single player campaign? Remarkable how people still defend this. And you can bet that Chris Roberts and his wife use some of the money for private stuff. Has anybody done a good break down video recently on Star Citizen, calling out all the bullshit?

I would add Hideo Kojima to that list. There is a reason Konami was fed up with him at one point, and everybody blamed them but they were right. Kojima is nuts and farther up his own ass than a 30 cm dildo ever could be.

They made Still Wakes the Deep, takes place in 1975 on an oil rig in Scotland, full of blacks, it has women too, and I think pro immigrant message, I saw a post about it but forgot where. They also made the meh Amnesia sequel.

Aside from that I think a team that is good one genre can also make a good game in a different genre, that said I don't think Chinese Room has the White male team to do this.

They've been claiming to be working on the single player campaign the whole time. The multiplayer has what, 2 planets? That's not done either. The whole thing is incomplete. And yes, his wife and other family members work for the company(I think his wife handles HR?) . I don't recall anyone recently pointing out the bullshit because it's just gotten tiresome after they were working buoyancy for bodies of water on planets, and adding a bunch of tanks and ATVs and shit to their space game where the space parts are still incomplete. There's also the annual legatus pack or whatever it's called that requires you you have spent $1000 in the online store to even see, and that thing hit $48,000 a couple of years ago. There's just nothing more to say about the absurdity of it all at this point.

Nah, I wouldn't add him to the list. That list is of people who can't get their shit together unless someone is standing over them. As much of a pain in the ass Kojima was being at Konami to the point where they finally got fed up with him, he's actually completed 2 projects since and is working on a third with a 4th in the background that might even be some movie thing. If anything he's the rare exception that seems to operate better in the opposite way.

Still no single player campaign?
Reminder that the initial kickstarter was to fund a single player spiritual successor to Wing Commander. 12 years on and they still haven't received the game.

Konami fired him because he was burning so much money on MGSV, and yes, he huffs his own farts, but I'd still rank him higher than Roberts, if only because Kojima can at least deliver a finished product.

Are they still doing the refunds of the pre order of the premium edition? A few days ago they said they were refunding it on September 08.I ordered it august 25 I never got a refund, my preorder is still active it says when I log into my PlayStation5.
