Hoping I can snag him for half price like I got 86 bee last year
I still need to open my 86 bumblebee and deluxe g1 cartoon "devastation" optimus that was one of the value 2 packs they put out. Some really good ones I never saw in person but I did get the cosmos/armada "wheeljack" sideswipe 2 pack too and both of those were figures I wanted but not at full price or what people wanted for them online. Took a photo of those when I got them too.

I swear the Walmarts in my area have literally nothing when trying to find those two packs from last year but I am slightly convinced my area might be a deadspot when trying to get Transformers or just scalpers going to town. As for unopened/not used figures, I still have that Kingdom Ark titan class still in the box, I only opened it for the blast effects and to see if everything was there when I bought it for sixty bucks at Ross a while ago. I am considering trying to find a place I can pawn it off since I don't have a spot to have it displayed.

Ebay is always a solid option for selling large transformers. That reminds me I still need to get back to cleaning off the used CW devastator I got last year so i can actually display it instead of having it laying down int he shipping box it came in. Despite the crust the few times I've actually had it stood up it's been solid and able to hold any pose even with the arms not being the ratcheted ones of the JP release. some poses do get floppy though due to that. Every other copy I've seen is like busted up or broke in some way but most people jsut seem to break the tab on the foot guy which I am concerned about. Thank god for low prices from people that actually want to make space for new stuff and pay in four or I'd probably never have gotten the thing.

Seeing "deluxes" the size of old legends scales being sold for 27 fucking dollars at wallyworld reminded me why I don't bother with this franchise anymore.
The first few figures they did that with they "made up for it" by including a bunch of wacked out little modularity gimmicks... Yes I know that's just cliffjumper and his several repaints but STILL IT COUNTS. Leader shockwave also comes to mind with him having a modular hover platform that becomes armor that gives him multiple arms and when plugged into his alt mode turns it into a kinda approximation of the several few seconds we see of tidal wave's cybertronian alt mode. It's devolved since then and the price has gone up. Voyagers with trailers are now no longer leader but "commander" class, something that used to belong to big guys like jetfire and sky lynx a few years ago.

I wish I didn't scrape up my kingdom rodimus prime man but I'm glad I got him for as cheap as I did before that because resellers are horrid. The ss86 repaint isn't gonna be worth the price IMO and I doubt they're gonna fix the trailer QC

Also the walmart exclusive g1 deluxes sized like legends got bumped up to 32 dollars IIRC so that's fun

I really haven't been feeling Studio Series lately. So much of it now just feels like repaints or new molds that are inferior to older versions.

Even in the new 2027 listings... repaints, Bay redos, etc. Bleh. I find Age of Evolution waaay more interesting so far. Also disappointed there's no FOC for the anniversary like they said there would be... I guess that was just a lie?

Cyclonus is the only new SS fig I've been impressed by, and even that's just refining a mold that was already good.

I think after nexus and animated ratchet I'm just gonna quit collecting and pray Ross in my area is decent to get shit I passed on since they're putting some legacy united stuff atm. But I am interested in a Bruticus box set so I can have at least a combiner.

The only Studio Series I was interested in on this year was AOE prime but seeing the pics of him I'm just gonna wait on inhand reviews.

You are much better off just going after older used figures either online or in person stores especially if you're american where there's a large and active market for them. there's literally like 30 years worth of great transformers toys out there to enjoy.

not being able to get anything new(or old new) in because of the Iran war has just made me dig up stuff I've owned for years and either forgot about or haven't touched for one reason or another and its made me appreciate what I already have rather than what I don't.
right now I'm back on my Constructicon binge, had Maketoys Green Giant out on my desk for all of last week and I forgot how cool he was, now I've gotten Unite Warriors Devy out and hes still the same chunky fun sloplord I remember him being. Devastator fucking sucks that's why hes the best.

Unite Warriors Devy
IMO aside from the tab issue on the foot and occasional other QC oddities on some copies combiner wars/unite warriors devastator is the best (official) g1 devastator we're ever gonna get. the ss86 one is just a downscaled redo of 86 devastator with added partsforming trailer shit that makes no sense being there. Him being over 300 dollars with somehow even more simplified engineering and sculpt makes it so fucking weird.

Transformers like a lot of things post rona have been the subject of scalpers raking upt he price on even some old ones seemingly at complete random. You do get lucky sometimes and see shit for a sane price though. SEE: How I got a used JP version of sideways because I couldn't find my original US one and it was the cheapest one I could find online at the time. The people scalping shit at 200-400 dollars just because it's a japanese release have a very special place in hell. Rambled about this constantly in this thread but as someone who doesn't got a ton of cashI'm really feeling the pain.

The best third party devastator to me is still Hercules. never got it when it was new and still haven't gotten it years later but I'm still holding out for one day where I'll find a used one for a decent price when I got actual money for that kinda thing.

Not entirely "accurate" but it captures the vibe of devastator better than any other one out there I feel. Prefer the default version without the shoulder kit because the treads becoming the lower arms is so god damn cool.

it is quite good though i think if i had the hasbro version with the raped elbows on half the individual members i would hate it alot more. i just appreciate how solid and chunky he feels.

I am in the process of trying to put one together for 200$ or under, Ive gotten all of the limbs for under retail but haven't been able to ship them out from Japan(fuck you Iran) and I think they look pretty fun. just need to find a Hook & Long Haul to seal the deal.
personally I don't mind the extra combiner kibble, I don't see the point in just remaking CW 1:1, and the G1 toy had a metric fuckload of extra pieces you needed to combine it, including a set of hips(really it was more like a weirdly shaped panel that wedged itself between Long Haul's thighs and mounted the legs in place) so I don't think the SS86 coming with a set of hips is all that offensive. its nowhere on the level of the entire frame combiner thing they are doing with the scramble city remakes, and it actually turns into something unlike most third party combiner kibble, so like you know what? fine.

I mind the scalpers less than the absolute raping of the budget. it was bad even before then, but its only gotten worse, and will likely to continue to get worse, since goyim seem keen on continuing to buy this slop at full price, or worse, twice or more the price off of scalpers.

a few years ago, before global trade was completely fucked and before trump started his gay tariff nonsense i would have explained to you how easy and cheap it is to just import this stuff directly from Japan. I literally bought up the entire Micron Legend toyline around 2022 for less than most of the Hasbro releases go for. I still buy quite alot from Japan, but thats also because I live in fucking Israel and I'm importing one way or another, but right now is probably the worst time ever to do it.
the general attitude towards anything Japanese(or even other region exclusive stuff, Euro G1 shit is RETARDED) in American markets is absolute fucking cancer aids 99% of the time, even for shit that is worthless they'll try to milk you out of every cent because its LE HECKING EXCLUSIVE.

I got a used complete one for about 90$+shipping last year. he is basically worthless if you look in the right places. alot of older third party toys are like that, which rules because alot of them are great.
hes got issues, but I do like him, hes fun. I would have preferred getting the white Shattered Glass one they did, but its alot less common.
I actually bought a Generation Toy Scavanger for like 30$ last week, if I actually like it I might end up building a Gravity Builder, which'll make it my... 8th...? Devastator. I have problems.

So basically like the devastator equivalent of how for the last few years most of my Transformers I've bought are just variants of megatron/galvatron. JP exclusive voyager energon galvatron for a non-scalper price (though he's missing his arm tank and the purple dinobot tail sword) was a highlight of last year specifically. I still have my leader one that was the US version from back in the day. he has his arm cannon but it's not on him and is likely in some unknown region of the house. I'd take photos of the two side by side but there's a a slight custom silver paint on the blue plastic parts thing on the used JP one from the previous owner that'd make it an opsec issue. Just know my JP galvatron G is silver where the blue is on the original figure.

Should probably try to find whatever box the big chunk of my old transformers were thrown in. I thought I had found it last year but it only had an armada optimus in it isolated. I think that happened because I was afraid it'd catch fire like there was a rumor going around about a little over 10 years ago and forgot I did that.

that is practically an urban legend started by Baltmatrix. I have owned at least 6 copies of that mold at this point and I genuinely cannot fathom how you would even accomplish that short of leaving the batteries in with the power turned on AND the batteries in the cabot AND somehow got it to send a signal to the trailer WITHOUT noticing the horrific grinding noise the trailer would make for minutes on end before the motor would actually start heating up to the point of catching fire.
just TAKE THE FUCKING BATTERIES OUT OF YOUR TOYS WHEN YOU'RE DONE PLAYING WITH THEM its not hard jesus

I didn't do that but I did do that on a bunch of my old transformers years ago in like 2012-2013-ish because I was more afraid of them leaking but then the batteries got accidentally scrambled by a family member when I had second thoughts and so i'd be mixing used and dead batteries which is the kind a thing that causes leaking sometimes. So hyeah ironically I'm pretty sure armada optimus is th eonly oen of my old guys that still has his old batteries unless I also forgot doing that.

Battery leaking is the main reason to do it yeah, it'll keep those electronics from going bad over the years, but you also dont want it to randomly activate and either start screaming at you if it has voice lines or set itself on fire if it has a motor. or worse, ive seen people throw battery filled toys in bins with other toys, and they would leak all over everything else, infecting the entire bin.

more humourously, the first time I went to America back in 2023, we went to a toy event in Philly, it was basically a huge flea market, lots of old used stuff, not too many transformers, but enough for me to be interested. I see this table full of a bunch of random crap. pez dispensers, plushies, happy meal toys, run by these two girls either in their late teens or early 20s, and as I'm about to just pass along and not give it a second thought because I have no interest in those types of toys, on the corner of their table, I spot a fucking Supreme Class Devastator from Revenge of the Fallen and I moonwalk back to look at it. they explain they found it in their basement, 2009 batteries still installed, screaming "I AM DEVASTATOR" endlessly. not sure what to do with this goblin, they brought him to the show to rid them of his curse. needless to say I bought him then and there and he was screaming from the back of the car the entire ride back.

In some aspects that figure's better than the studio series one, but in others it's not. Biggest one being them cheaping out and not making the individual parts able to become robots of any kind but the gimmick of the screaming and opening mouth are great.

Was the one you got the plain faced one or red detail variant? Looking stuff up it says that's the JP only version but I remember it floating around in some US stores too back in the day.

it is definitely better than the Studio Series one. that thing is the biggest pile of shit they have ever shat onto market with the name Devastator attached to it. some of the individual constructicons are OK but its clear they just winged it and had no fucking idea how to make it come together as a combiner. its somehow engineered & looks worse than the fucking Legends toy from 10 years prior.

I used to be one of those people that was big mad over surpeme devy being a "fake" combiner with no individual robot modes, and like, yeah it is kind of gay they went that route, but its also a completely different category of toy I think, its closer to a Megazord style combiner than a transformers one, and its very good within that category. its super chunky, solid, and has a great gimmick. its a ton of fun and still the best version of movie Devastator you can get IMO. and if you want to get real technical, the components that make up Devastator in the movie never did transform into robots, there are multiple sets of constructicons in ROTF, it is entirely possible that in universe the Devastator components are *just* construction equipment with no robot modes. this is entirely cope, but its funny to theorize.

I have the bog standard Hasbro one with the grey face. the red one was the Takara version. I wouldn't mind it, but the rest of the toy is identical as far as I can tell, and I don't think it has Japanese voice lines or anything, so unless I see a loose, Japanese Mixmaster for very cheap, I doubt I'll ever get one.

I mean it's literally identical save for the face having red paint on some panels you could theoretically just add it yourself. I dunno though I kinda like the grey face a bit better even though it's not "accurate" to the final movie design.

yeah but I do have an autistic tendency to want every deco of my favorite toys, so if I *did* see a cheap loose Japanese Mixmaster it'd be a no brainer, but I'm not losing sleep over not having one.
and yeah, I'm into the grey face. it looks pretty good, and the Legends one sports it too, so the red was probably a late addition on the movie model.

Almost all the promotional images of devastator's model from back when ROTF came out had the gray face too which makes me wonder just how late into development that got added.

for the movie model I definitely think the red looks better, but on the two original toys, grey breaks him up nicer.

I still really wish we had gotten a proper, full sized combining devastator made out of deluxes voyagers and leaders back in ROTF. just imagining the kind of insane shit they could have pulled with the budget back in the day makes me sad that we'll probably never get anything close to that now, unless they decide to make an MPM one.
I'm still happy just having the Legends and Supreme sets, I do kind of wish I had kept the SS one for completion's sake, and I did genuinely like some of those constructicons individually, but man that combined mode was fucking indefensibly bad.
