IMO aside from the tab issue on the foot and occasional other QC oddities on some copies combiner wars/unite warriors devastator is the best (official) g1 devastator we're ever gonna get.
it is quite good though i think if i had the hasbro version with the raped elbows on half the individual members i would hate it alot more. i just appreciate how solid and chunky he feels.
the ss86 one is just a downscaled redo of 86 devastator with added partsforming trailer shit that makes no sense being there. Him being over 300 dollars with somehow even more simplified engineering and sculpt makes it so fucking weird.
I am in the process of trying to put one together for 200$ or under, Ive gotten all of the limbs for under retail but haven't been able to ship them out from Japan(fuck you Iran) and I think they look pretty fun. just need to find a Hook & Long Haul to seal the deal.
personally I don't mind the extra combiner kibble, I don't see the point in just remaking CW 1:1, and the G1 toy had a metric fuckload of extra pieces you needed to combine it, including a set of hips(really it was more like a weirdly shaped panel that wedged itself between Long Haul's thighs and mounted the legs in place) so I don't think the SS86 coming with a set of hips is all that offensive. its nowhere on the level of the entire frame combiner thing they are doing with the scramble city remakes, and it actually turns into something unlike most third party combiner kibble, so like you know what? fine.
Transformers like a lot of things post rona have been the subject of scalpers raking upt he price on even some old ones seemingly at complete random.
I mind the scalpers less than the absolute raping of the budget. it was bad even before then, but its only gotten worse, and will likely to continue to get worse, since goyim seem keen on continuing to buy this slop at full price, or worse, twice or more the price off of scalpers.
SEE: How I got a used JP version of sideways because I couldn't find my original US one and it was the cheapest one I could find online at the time. The people scalping shit at 200-400 dollars just because it's a japanese release have a very special place in hell. Rambled about this constantly in this thread but as someone who doesn't got a ton of cashI'm really feeling the pain.
a few years ago, before global trade was completely fucked and before trump started his gay tariff nonsense i would have explained to you how easy and cheap it is to just import this stuff directly from Japan. I literally bought up the entire Micron Legend toyline around 2022 for less than most of the Hasbro releases go for. I
still buy quite alot from Japan, but thats also because I live in fucking Israel and I'm importing one way or another, but right now is probably the worst time ever to do it.
the general attitude towards anything Japanese(or even other region exclusive stuff, Euro G1 shit is RETARDED) in American markets is absolute fucking cancer aids 99% of the time, even for shit that is worthless they'll try to milk you out of every cent because its LE HECKING EXCLUSIVE.
The best third party devastator to me is still Hercules. never got it when it was new and still haven't gotten it years later but I'm still holding out for one day where I'll find a used one for a decent price when I got actual money for that kinda thing
I got a used complete one for about 90$+shipping last year. he is basically worthless if you look in the right places. alot of older third party toys are like that, which rules because alot of them are great.
hes got issues, but I do like him, hes fun. I would have preferred getting the white Shattered Glass one they did, but its alot less common.
I actually bought a Generation Toy Scavanger for like 30$ last week, if I actually like it I might end up building a Gravity Builder, which'll make it my... 8th...? Devastator. I have problems.
