No idea who Collapse is but I am curious how lugnut will go being a leader. Hoping he's a tad taller than 86 Grimlock

No idea who Collapse
Probably lost the name to a character and have to choose a new one. There's no character with that name. Energon Scorponok, Animated Lugnut, and G2 Megatron sound good. Maybe Animated Slipstream. She can do a lot of repaints from Cyberverse. Scoop will likely be a Deluxe but at a voyager price range due to the targetmasters. No clue why they were adding Sky Fire to the mix. Only one of those I know of was from RID that wasn't just another Jetfire. Also nice to get another Blue Powerglide. Is Rook just going to be a retool of Swindle this time around?

So I found and actually bought the sideways remake I really didn't like the outcome of to the point I hunted down a used original for cheap. Reason being the store it was at hadn't updated the transformers prices so voyagers are still 34 (still too damn high because it becomes almost 40 with tax) instead of 45 dollars like they are everywhere else now. That and it does look ok-ish in some aspects thought he feet are fucked and the purple is too dead looking compared to the original figure. Not even in an animation accurate way.

The figure symbolizes everything wrong with both the cost cutting and over/under engineering to avoid any kind of sliding panel. The hollow waffling on everything and his minicons partsforming thier arms and legs off while being disproportionate and 0 effort hurts knowing they want people to pay almost 50 fucking dollars for it. I've seen looking around he's supposedly compatible with the old heads due to them being peg shaped so I'll test that sometime because on top of being ass they're also tiny, resulting in his head looking like a mushed gray cube at some angles. There's still good elements but every other perosn glazing this thing is weird to me. It's a decent transformer if you don't count for all the things it fucks up miserably but it's one of those figures where the only big boon is it being able to hold weapons and have knees and elbows without modding it. His feet being stuck sideways though is genuinely a fucking sin of engineering.

Will take pics later, but I'll leave you with the story of the journey to getting this guy below.

Scalpers clearly reside in my area, I've known this for years but it's been really bad since about 2018-ish and shit's been completely unfindable outside short bursts since 2020s time. Whenever I scan something at a place that still has a price scanner (most removed them during covid for some reason) and it says "out of stock" despite the shelf being full, I come back and it's just empty. Every time. Someone within the store's chain fo command is likely involved, likely multiple stores in the region. I have not seen a single instance where a figure that makes it to shelves somehow doesn't have some form of defect.

So anyways, I see this sideways, the transformers shelf has been barren for like 2 or 3 months now in the worst of these fucking places this happens in. I know the day they restock shit even if I can't afford it and they selectively put shit out that won't sell like the bad gamer edition figures or cheap shit, and if they don't have that to throw int hey drip out one single voyager sometimes. Guess what voyager it was this time? Yeah, sideways. With a huge scratch/gash of black paint across his face, blatant factory defect. Figured since I'd use his minicon head anyways it's not important. Price scan it to make sure the price didn't go o up and guess what it says? OUT OF STOCK. Just like everything I checked last time I went there to make sure of the price that wasn't like house shit. So I got him, because the figure DID interest me as crappy as some parts of it are.

The goofy ass youtube cartoon merch I mentioned seeing in another thread was completely gone. Not just the vinyl that interested me because of the cheap price and seemingly decent quality and style I almost bought but fucking everything. Stock does not go out that fast naturally, especially for that kind of thing. Nobody has touched shit like the skibidi toilet stuff in that little indie animation merch hovel for the last fucking year for the most part. The mario galaxy amiibos were gone too as well as a bunch of other shit I know gets scalped online 3 times the price.. Was surprised they let them make off with those because they were behind fucking glass implying people have been fucking stealing those.

Double post because I'd rather the photos be by themselves and I'm going to ramble a little more about these.

Old vs. new sideways, a bit more equatable than most comparisons out there because the purple chest version of the old one on the left here instead of the yellow chest version.
1776552341677.png
The OG figure and the new one are around the same size as each other, but the cut corners on the new one are so notably noticable from a visual standpoint. the OG one cut corners in terms of articulation which was the style of the times, but it made sure the feet still resembled feet and the head was immediately noticable instead of making it the same darker unpainted gray as the legs. The headmasters are still very much their own little guys on the old one rather than cut back accessories you need tot ake the arms or legs off to use as a head on the new one. There's also the blatant issue of using black plastic for the chest instead of clear plastic, though the retarded "avoid any slide panels" cheap trick they do with the chest that requires you to take it apart on the new one is the obvious reason for that since the logos would be visible from the back if they made it normal clear instead of the smokey black clear. Issue is though it makes everything a bit more dead looking. Wasn't in the mood to try and squeeze the old head on the new one but it's apparently a doable feature with a bit of fanegling.

Anyways, I took a side by side with the starscream I meant to photograph like a month or two ago. His wings are weirdly loose but yeah I got him for around a tiny bit higher than MSRP used as opposed to the fucking 100-200 prices ebay people want for him and I feel good about that. Shouldn't have been locked to an Asia region only event exclusive it's literally just a gen selects recolor.

My 2 cents - had a bootleg Blitzwing as a kid (that survived mostly intact to this day) and otherwise knock off Macross valkyries were also in the TF mix of toys for me as a kid, but the main difference was that TF show wasn't broadcast unlike Macross, so I only ever properly got into actual TFs was with Beast Wars. Later on when I got to finally experience actual Macross it sold me to be my defacto primary "transforming mechs" of a franchise.

Then when Bay movies came out, I got into those TF lines since they modeled real vehicles as opposed to goofy imaginary ones. Along that time, Alternators/Binaltechs were even better and the WRX could actually seat 1/24 driver figures!

Fast forward to randomly noticing that there was a modernized Blitzwing out - snagged that thing faster than sound. It's awkward in the "plane" mode like a typical, modern Murican on fast food diet, but the bot and tank modes are absolute fine wine.

Historically amazing toy line, but it largely brushed by me in favor of Macross for the transformation gimmick and largely due to designs and fantastic media backing.

The most recent blitzwing is kind of weird but it's because it's trying to do a somewhat realistic tank that's ALSO based on the g1 cartoon model, which was based on the g1 toy loosely.

Of course this kind of gets lost because they replaced the blue with red for some reason and it's not even the same model of tank. There was a JP exclusive 3 pack like a year or so ago that actually had it in animation colors I missed out on.

Jet mode looks a bit better on it too, still weird proportionally, I'm pretty sure these were the intended colors for the figure.

Good news, it's getting a standalone release in the next wave of Studio Series.
Not really good news since "leaders" which are just slightly complex small voyagers are now 60+ dollars msrp.

Also it's likely not going to be the same one but a retool to cut down on sculpt with skimped on paint like shockwave was. Made me a lot more thankful for getting the unopened 3 pack off a guy that didn't want his and wasn't charging the scalper prices.

Like seriously the OG was fine and while I like the retool I don't like how they skimped out on his leg side panel paint for no fucking reason. It's not like it's unpaintable or anything they just for some reason decided on this and the marvel comics shockwave to not put the gray where the gray is supposed to go on the leg making the little wing thing that folds out for the alt mode look gross and weird.

I'd say "at least he's a voyager" for the rerelease of shockwave but the msrp for voyager is now just the price leaders were a few years ago.

found this one and he looks much better in all modes.

Oh yeah that's a decent one though all his modes are scifi equivalents of his g1 and every verison of the figure has a nasty fucking defect where the arms won't peg in, as well as some pressure issue with blitzwing's head specifically where it causes his head to split apart due to a mix of paint overspray and the face being made of a rubbery plastic for the reference to animated where you can switch his face to animated blitzwing's serious or wacky face.

It was also repainted into doubledealer despite the alt modes not being the same and it works well for him.

The double dealer version THEN got repainted into a JP exclusive subline of generations repaints, "cloud" starscream.

Somehow despite being a blitzwing it works fucking incredibly as a starscream figure too. Never gonna pay reseller prices for it though.

EDIT: Found a higher quality photo on image search, swapped the crusty one out for it.

Seriously I really do like how this version of the figure works out and if I ever find it for close to like 50 or something maybe I'll get it.

Tank mode's really funny because it gives off a vibe of trying to copy megatron's tank modes a bit. Especially when you see it next to the cloud megatron from around the same timeframe.
1776726113861.png
EDITX2: only results on ebay right now for cloud starscream is someone who wants over 300 for both him and megatron in box. Surprised there aren't more listings like there were a year ago or so whenever I last tried checking to see if anyone was selling him for a sane price used.

BBTS posted a teaser for the remaining Studio Series figures, it looks like Cyclonus has had his gun, forearms, and torso retooled, the head has probably been retooled as well.
View attachment 8904362
Just as I thought, blitzwing isn't dramatic capture repacked. It's doing the "replace all clear plastic with solid plastic" thing and seems to be missing the gray on the treads? what the fuck?

Cyclonus seems to have a bunch of changes. Head, gun, bigeps, legs...

View attachment 8906475
The legs being slightly retooled seems really nonsensical because they were already animation accurate as they could get here and it's ever slightly different greebling. The gun being redone to be smaller is a very odd little thing but I can see why it was done (though it's comical how it's more expensive than the other releases now due to it)

Cliffjumper seems to be the only one I am tempted to get but 25-27 bucks and tax for a core class size just dont sit right to me and I got the legacy prime Cliffjumper in that 4 pack.
he's also a repaint of the jank ss86 bumblebee that's based more on the g1 toy than the g1 appearance. No, for the g1 bumblebee you got DEVASTATION bumblebee who is just g1 bumblebee with yellow lower front legs and is the most on-model animation wise otherwise to a g1 bumblebee I've ever really seen. There's one ot two animation errors where his legs are like that in the show too IIRC but I could be remembering that wrong.

The target exclusive ss86 redeco of Earthrise cliffjumper isn't the best figure but it's better at being a g1 cartoon based figure than this new one is. Sucks mine fell and got kinda scraped up by knocking into another figure and I didn't realize till after I stood it back up months ago.

Still glad I found it in the wild before a scalper got their mitts on it. Not the best transformer but a really nice little posable guy. It's weird because he's based engineering wise on the og mp bumblebee mold kinda sorta. I mean the figure WAS retooled into bumblebee but you get me.
