It always surprises me just how completely asinine later versions of Windows are to get up and going.
With Windows 7 and earlier, it just asked you a few basic but completely reasonable questions like what timezone to use, what your local username and passwords should be, and how you want updates to go, and then it'd send you to the desktop to get everything else done. It was a productive experience that never felt invasive and didn't take long at all to get through.
Nowadays, it feels like you're in NYC where you got a bunch of random guys trying to sell you shit to make a quick buck and the out of box experience is now akin to clicking "decline" on every sketchy advertisement like a mobile game. No, I don't want to subscribe to Microsoft AssFuck 365. Fuck off, no, I don't want your Game Ass. Just let me get to my desktop already. Why do you need to know where I live? Just let me reach my desktop, you cocksucker. Why can't I use a local account anymore? You get the idea. My favorite part is when you restart your system, whether it be for an update or because you are trying to fix an issue caused by an unfixed bug introduced god knows how long ago and once you reach your desktop, it throws up a FULL SCREEN ADVERTISEMENT for OneDrive disguised as a "backup feature" or even the classic "finish setting up your system".
What a piece of shit. Every time I install older versions of Windows it's like a breath of fresh air. We need another consumer version of Windows that is as no-frills as Windows XP or even Windows 2000 but looks as good as Windows 7, but I know that'll never happen because Microsoft is so hellbent on trying to do everything at once and failing miserably.
