Well, he said he's keeping the forum open at least. Yet another QCS Kool Kid tried to get it shut down and FAU said they're keeping it open for now since people there seem to enjoy themselves, even if he thinks it's dumb - which is not a sentiment you see from mods much.

I don't understand people who try to get subforums and threads closed because they don't approve of the way other people choose to have fun. It's real shitty. Not everyone has to have the same interests and sense of humor. I feel like if people are having fun in a thread/forum and they're not bothering anyone else, fucking let them. Why try to ruin other peoples' good time?

Reddit is full of weirdos

We all know this, there's documentation of it literally everywhere from the site itself to the police blotters of suburban America. But the Star Citizen subreddit is notoriously toxic and weird. Some just watched a video and are now demanding bikini wearing mercenaries need to be a thing in game which for internet videogame nerds, feels kinda tame.

But the official forum; that's worse.

But then there' the Stimpire, some forums superstar's BDSM fantasy he decided to put out on the internet for some unknowable reason

Then there's Dickwolf, some weirdo who kept sending pictures of his tiny weiner to any girl he could identitfy as such on the official forums

Wow, it's like a shitty scifi forum from the late 90s.

Back with another Star Citizen Communities update!

Now the HNIC of Something Awful, one Mr. Lowtax, is pandering for FREE INTERNET MONIES! like a real forward thinking spaceman!

bzbTgyK.png

You pay him cahs monies, you get spaceship drawing (probably goinna have to wait until his big begging Notch for cash expose` has been penned though)

The irony being that Lowtax doesn't seem to get that him begging for money to keep his forums up is actually worse than what the Star Citizen devs are doing in terms of what you get for giving a drugged up idiot online money. See, the Star Citizen devs atleast have built SOMETHING since 2012, which is far beyond anything that SA and her admins haven't been able to do in a very long time. While I think paying $60+ for a broken game demo is dumb, paying anything for a forum that is less functional than most after you've already paid $10 to join is a much, much worse financial decision.

But then again, ambien and foreign broads don't pays for themselves

I wonder if Chris Roberts is proud of the community it took him 48 years of life to create.

If he even reads the forums at all I would be shocked. That dude is making millions a year and blowing it on limited edition Porsches, multimillion dollar condos and vacations on yachts in Italy and France and they'll spend countless hours defending him for it. So he's gotta be pretty cool with these weirdos on that level

God, you're right. He's a textbook cult leader.

It's not exactly a stretch to call the Star Citizen community a cult for how fervently they defend it and the developers. Add in the excessive cash flowing up from the community, and the vitriol aimed at people who leave or speak out against it, I'm thinking cult is the perfect description.

The funniest part is how much more defensive and straight up hostile the Star Citizen reddit is than the official forums, which are still defensive, but nowhere near the same level, it's just a bunch of spergs theorycrafting really stupid ideas and trying to decipher the horrible English of Eastern European and Korean backers.

If you show up on the official forums and criticize the game, you'll get a few responses showing a counter argument, sometimes weak, sometimes with some footing in reality and then it will get moved to the "Concern" subforum or deleted outright.

You do it on reddit you get down voted to oblivion, doxxed and accused of being a goon or Derek Smart

I meant more the community at large, not any specific section of it. It does get kind of funny when the less mature SC players go into Elite Dangerous subreddits and forums to "troll."
Gotta admit, I've never understood their motives on that. "I know, let's go laugh at people who like that other game, because Chris Robert's wish list is waaaay better than David Braben's working product!" doesn't really read as an entirely coherent train of thought.

train of thought.

Found the problem.

Honestly I like the Alpha or w/e for Star Citizen, I dig the flight model and the overall look of the ships, and it's looking like they've made some progress as of late, but Elite's done some seriously impressive things and shouldn't be insulted for anything aside from door-stop looking ships

I was about to say the same thing. "Your finished game sucks! Our list of beta ideas is way cooler!"

If Elite didn't have door-stop ships, then it wouldn't be Elite.

The Star Citizen community is scary, even more-so than the old Bioware forums. I don't know how so many people got suckered in. I personally know of 3 guys that are Doctors/Lawyers who have spent at least $2000 each on ships. Then again, before they went to university they ran LAN Parties every weekend out of their garage. So maybe they are trying to recapture their youth.

My best guess, and mind you I am one of the early backers AND a supporter of some of the things Derek Smart is saying, is it banks off of nostalgia. People wanted to play X-Wing, Wing Commander and Free Space with their buddies and fly against the aliens and shit together in some old school space sim fun. Like someone pointed out earlier, the crazy part of the Star Citizen fandom sound just like the old school Star Trek/Wars BBS groups, and there's a reason for that, this is the first big project in decades that brought them all back, But now they're all old and boring with kids, jobs and bills to pay.

But most of them seem to have done alright for themselves and have some serious disposable income that they don't mind investing in remembering the good old days and desperately hoping for them to come back. I think the average Star Citizen backer is in their early 30s and has a bachelor's degree according to some survey, I know that 80% of my RL friends who are backers have a STEM degree and over 8 years of military experience a pop. One of my buddies from college who's a United Airlines pilot is over $2500 in, another who's a structural engineering analyst for Boeing won't say how much but his ship list says something to the tune of $3000. My best friend is a linguist for a 3 letter agency and he's over a grand in to it and he has a pair of masters degrees from George Town and Cal Tech/ A friend of mine from flight school who has over 3k flight hours and is currently a squadron commander on his first tour is ~$600 in.

This project speaks to spergs, but it also speaks to boring old guys chasing a simulacrum of their younger days, which is where a lot of the money has to be coming from. These guys aren't going to go on the internet because they've got meetings to go to, security clearances, jobs and kids and wives to spend time with, but they're excited to have something come in to their weekly existence that allows them to escape all those obligations, even if they do love them, and just be a nerdy teenager min/maxing their space ship again while living out their Top Gun, Star Wars and Space opera fantasies. Thats who they targeted from day one.

Chris Roberts pleads for more money – Is Star Citizen now a money pit?

Yet another article on Star Citizen where the comment section is a dumpster fire of such :autism: I can't get through it. When I glanced at this on Saturday I thought I saw some comments from cow Derek Smart in there, but I can't seem to find them now. Not sure if they're just buried or if he deleted them.

Also, does anyone know if this is legit?

WTF if so. I mean they've already pulled in just under $150 million by now.
