Don't forget to pick up Legend and Anniversary.

I'm playing through Anniversary at the moment, for a 15 year old game it still looks damn good, and the sound design in particular is superb. It really nails that sense of isolation, that you really are the first person to step foot in these places for thousands of years. That's not to say it's perfect, some of the jumps can be very frustrating and the grappling hook just refuses to work sometimes, but still holds up really well.

For something that came out in 2007, the graphics hold up strongly. Even the voice performances are phenomenal, but then again it has the talents of Kath Soucie and Grey DeLisle, as well as Keeley Hawes returning her role as Lara Croft from its predecessor, Legend.

I agree with the gameplay, as sometimes the jumps are unnecessary, and the grappling hook takes a while to get used to. That said, it's still very fun to play.

I hope you guys are ready, Amazon is making a Tomb Raider tv series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as showrunner.

The real question is, who will play as Lara?

inb4 Chris Pratt or Idris Elba

Michaela Coel or that redhead mutt who is cast in a lot of recent Disney productions.
My other pick is Tyler Perry as Lara Croft (albeit in a Madea like outfit).

"Ooohh lordy! That tomb is stankin' up like craaaazy up in here!"

Yo @Flexo , a fellow Lara Croft found some other robots on a Nevada desert. Could it be Bender?

Well, release date for the new game has been revealed. It's now scheduled to be released this Valentine's Day 2023 (and also the same day as Lara Croft's birthday).

but seriously, I can't be the only person here trying to keep up with news and updates. Why is nobody even maining this thread?

I mean why would we care about Tomb Raider news when we know it has been dead for years, still reading your posts though. Also the new Tomb Raider is mobile shovelware lol at the state of this franchise.

Yawn someone wake me up when they decide to make a actual game. The comments on the YouTube video make it seem like nobody wants this.
Aside from the useless mobile game, there are a couple coming out this year. One for the Switch and the other is a sole Amazon exclusive.

I still think posting classic Croft from the 90s and 2000s might be useful. But yea, it looks bad. I only bring it up because big companies are just hellbent on beating dead horses.

Interesting I take it back then hopefully they're good. It's weird it's a amazon exclusive until just now I had no idea they even did anything relating to video games.

Amazon always wanted to throw their hats in the video game race. At first, they were a mobile studio company for their products such as Kindle, but by 2019 they were dead-on serious about being into gaming. Their most popular titles so far are Lost Ark and New World. They've also purchased Double Helix Games and even the livestreaming service Twitch.

I never played Tomb Raider back in the 90s because not a single person I knew had a PlayStation, and the only PC game I knew existed was lemmings.

For some reason, it popped into my head recently and I've played through almost all of it in the past week. Some of the level design rivals the best Zelda dungeons from the 64. I'm thoroughly impressed with most level design here. There's some clever flow to the game that is very rare to see.

It's not at all what I expected from the way the games were advertised in the 90s. I remember all the flagrantly sexualized ads, and they honestly do the game a disservice because it's a slow paced, methodical exploration game with very little action, and what is there is poorly handled. I would have honestly thought it was something more akin to an action run and gun with what I remember of the ads and the few I've seen posted over the years.

I'm glad I played it when I did, now that I'm a bit more patient with games, but I have to say I think it would be a bit better if it was shortened a little. Once you have all the beats down, nothing really changes too terribly much, and most levels start to rely on the "big reveal" when you fall into a new area or something. It's neat, and I know for 96 it's insanely impressive, but it does wear a bit thin considering there's really only a handful of mechanics. Switches, keys (varying flavors), shimmying, and two distances of jump: short with forward+jump, and long with running jump. That does get a little bit dull after a while, but early 3D games often fair far, far worse than this.

Also, I actually like tank controls so I have literally no complaint about the clunkyness, minus the fact that sometimes the game just chooses not to register a jump. I've quick saved before a jump and tested the same run forward and jump and about 1/10 times or so it just doesn't come out which can lead to some annoying deaths. Could be a PC bug (playing tr1main), who knows.

All in all, insanely impressed with it.

I was going to write a more detailed review of TR Anniversary after just beating the whole thing on hard, but the game didn't give me the achievement for doing it, so fuck it I'm done.
