Did Rhianna just admit she's not a fan of her own writing?
I actually didn't mind the dad story in Rise because Richard at least felt like an actual person (because he totally wasn't based on Terry).

Reminder that a woman named Vicky Arnold was a lead story writer for TR2 who designed classic Lara's biography, yet the ho above gets credit for inventing Lara simply because she had a famous dad. "Didn't have full control" my ass, you sure had no problem getting awards for best writing that Rise received for some reason.

Reloaded's lead dev left the project #fuckinglol. Either Square isn't woke enough for someone's standards or they actually give a shit about their reputation (his twitter salt does make it sound like he was fired)

I hope this game is being shelved 'cause I don't need another cheap mobile pandering to please every group of fans with tons of bugs and poor design. Even the actual fans are disappointed.

edit: So I spoke to someone who's active in the fandom and apparently Ed above wasn't the one who got caught sending dickpics to minors. No, that was a completely different gay TR stan who, coincidently, is also named Ed. My mistake, I apologize for spreading this misinformation.

Playing through the series from the beginning again, including expansions. Up to Tomb Raider III. Can't wait to get to The Last Revelation for the second time. Never before have I been so pleasantly surprised by a game I had low expectations for.

The recent news about Nu-NuRaider has me intrigued, hopefully the new game will be less grimdark and more challenging, with less focus on the story.

The writer seems to have indicated much, but personally I'm of the opinion that Tomb Raider games shouldn't have a dedicated writer. Just give me back confident Lara with shitty one liners and a competent story that can tie the varied locations together.

If it sucks, no big deal to me. I'll just play TRLE levels til the end of time. Will always be a massive fan of TR1-4, AOD and Legend. Definitely one of my favourite franchises, and as much as the NuRaider games are divisive and are far inferior to the classic games, I don't mind them. I just tune the story out and they're competent open world games.

speaking of, somebody made another Tomb Raider 1 remake, although they're not saying it's a TR remake for copyright reasons but it's rather obvious. I suspect this was being made by a TRLE builder.

This is what Reloaded SHOULD have been
Not a fan of that art style but man, so many TRLE level creators are insanely talented. It's amazing how much longevity a game can have just with a level editor and a dedicated community. That's why Doom II and Tomb Raider 4 are two of my favourite games.

I'll go into Reloaded with a somewhat open mind, but as a FTP mobile game my expectations are as low as humanly possible

Square Enix sells off Tomb Raider, Deus Ex IPs and the studios behind them

Square Enix is selling off Western studios Eidos, Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix Montreal, as well as the franchises those studios develop, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief, to Embracer Group, the companies announced Monday. The $300 million deal will give Embracer Group ownership of more than 50 back-catalog games from Square Enix’s library and will affect 1,100 employees across three studios. Sweden-based Embracer already owns publishing and development studios Gearbox Software, THQ Nordic, Saber Interactive, Koch Media, Deep Silver, and Coffee Stain Studios. Embracer has also expanded beyond video games to acquire comic book publisher Dark Horse and tabletop game publisher Asmodee. Embracer will have more than 14,000 employees, 10,000 game developers, and 124 internal studios, when the deal with Square Enix closes.

Square Enix says the sale of its studios and IP will establish “a more efficient allocation of resources” and enable “the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud.” In a news release announcing the sale, Embracer said it was “impressed by the studios’ rich portfolio of original IP,” namely Tomb Raider and Deus Ex (which have sold a combined 100 million units), and saw “compelling opportunities to organically grow the studios to maximize their commercial opportunities.” Embracer said it sees opportunity to invest in the aforementioned IP, as well as Legacy of Kain, Thief, “and other original franchises.”

Crystal Dynamics announced in March it was working on a new entry in the Tomb Raider franchise, built in Unreal Engine 5, a follow-up to 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Crystal Dynamics is also assisting on the development of the new Perfect Dark for Xbox Game Studios. Perfect Dark developer The Initiative says it will continue to work with Crystal Dynamics on the game. Deus Ex and Thief developer Eidos Montreal most recently released Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Crystal Dynamics’ most recently released Marvel’s Avengers. Neither Marvel-owned property was mentioned in Embracer’s announcement of the sale. Square Enix Montreal, the studio behind the mobile Go spinoffs based on Tomb Raider, Hitman, and Deus Ex, most recently released Hitman Sniper: The Shadows for Android and iOS devices. Embracer said Square Enix Montreal would “continue to develop and operate memorable mobile games based on AAA IP.”

You know, I was expecting Square to sell off Square Enix Europe because the acquisition of Eidos never quite panned out, but I did not expect the Embracer Group to step up and be the ones to buy them.

good riddance because fuck square.
although apparently the employees themselves found out about this via twitter. that's fucked up

So what does this mean for Tomb Raider? Does this increase the chances of us actually getting a good game? On one hand, I hear the group that bought Crystal Dynamics has a hands-off approach, so CD might have a chance to make a TR game without corporate meddling. On the other hand, that Samantha Wallschlaeger chick is still the lead writer at CD (for now), so they might just fuck it up even worse without Square's help.

Hard to say in terms of game quality. We will get more Tomb Raider games; one has already been announced for development and the Tomb Raider IP was front and center during the announcement. More games are coming. As for quality, that will ultimately be up to Crystal Dynamics. Embracer Group are very hands off compared to Squeenix, with all of their individual direct subsidiaries basically operating independently, and many of them being hands off with their own subsidiary studios. But that just may give Crystal Dynamics more rope to hang themselves.

The sequel being announced as a direct follow-up to Shadow doesn't fill me with much hope that it'll be anything other than just another Reboot style Uncharted ripoff, this time with maybe even more puzzles that practically solve themselves and linear exploration. They sell well, without Square around to demand that they do 6.8 billion copies in sales they'll probably get considered a decent success with a safe follow up.

My hope is that Embracer looks at the slight buzz surrounding all the fan-remakes of the old games using Unreal and tap into that potential though. There's still a very real audience of people who'd enjoy Tomb Raider in the classic style, they're just not being catered to, and their games wouldn't require massive dev-teams or huge budgets, just a decent AA cycle with a little style and care.

I have a giant hardcover tome dedicated to Lara and all her exploits (games history comics films etc) all the way up to Rise. It is called 20 Years of Tomb Raider. Highly recommend.

I miss Lara when Keeley voiced her because she was my favorite. I would like remasters of the original games and the legend trilogy. (Never played the original PlayStation games. There's one where you fight this evil blonde in a red outfit. I forget her name but she's not Natla or Amanda. I want to say her name is Sylvia?) Tho I wonder if they'd ever agree to rerelease Legend because Greg Ellis is mentally off his rocker atm.

I hate how shadow nerfed the score attack and didn't even bother with the card packs (which was the best part about Rise).

I miss big head Lara(:_(

Imagine being Terry Pratchett and watching your own daughter turn one of the most iconic franchises in gaming into a hit piece on you due to lingering resentment. The apple didn't fall from the tree. It was launched into the sea and started rotting.

Lara was fine as she was in the original games. She was written by women. Who now no longer exist to these woke shits. Tomb Raider was the very first video game I ever played. It holds a special place in my heart. And I have never appreciated these wine aunts telling me that I am problematic for liking Tomb Raider. When if anything, Lara Croft is an example of positive femininity when there were precious few examples of that in my life. Nor do I appreciate these people saying Tomb Raider itself was problematic and needed "fixing" by turning Lara from a confident, sexy and mature adventurer with a complex about danger to a pathetic university student constantly whining for a man to help her or indulging in someone on the team's barely concealed rape fetish.

This is supposed to be the shit SJWs complain about all the time. That women are just written as pathetic with no agency of their own waiting for a man to save them. And they need to "fix" it. But they actually made it worse than it's ever been. Because these women who have these positions of power are inherently bitter and jealous of video game characters that are prettier and better than them.

TL:DR: Tomb Raider reboot made me hate women more.

You're probably thinking of Sophia Leigh, the main antagonist of the London section of TRIII.

I love the originals, and honestly, I really enjoyed Legend as well. I still play through the PS1 classics every couple of years or thereabouts. Hopefully the IP being out of Squeenix's hands can give the franchise a much needed kick in the ass.
