It seems that the SJWs having been trying to gun for Adele for a while and they're now starting to get closer to their dreams of pouncing on her for cultural appropriation and hoping she'll fold like Macklemore. Since, according to this article, she's kind of to blame for other black soul singers not being famous enough.

Thankfully, there's some posters with sanity.
so basically if I'm not black, I can't sing soul because it belongs to the blacks? or basically if I'm white and I just sound soulful, then I can't be successful? Or basically, if I'm white and I write songs that seem to appeal to the masses, it all doesn't matter because the only reason I'd be successful is because of the color of my skin? And of all other successful white musicians like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, why compare to Adele? The one white woman who can sound soulful even when her labeled music genre is pop and contemporary adult? And she's not even fucking American! It's like saying black people can't play basketball and football because the white man invented it. And if you're a successful black athlete, it is only because you're black. Just start a race war already! see if this race entitlement shit will still matter when the world comes to an end and people just die with their bitterness. Ugh, Sad.
Aretha Franklin. Patti Labelle. Tina Turner. Mary J Blige. Roberta Flack. All famous female artists who sang soul music. Radios played their music because it appealed to the masses and it crossed over to the mainstream. Adele doesn't even claim soul music. She's a pop artist who just happens to sound soulful. You racist people act like there were never any successful black artists. For once, just look at it without color and then maybe you'll find some tips on how to appeal to more people. One factor could be artist promotion. Like, ask Beyonce and Nicki Minaj if you're too arrogant to ask the white girl.
Race does not guarantee or even correlate to the "authenticity" of different music. Talent and practice does. Some really good soul musicians happen to be white. The best classical pianist I've seen live was black. It literally doesn't matter. Music.has.no.race

And I'm glad the Cohen brothers aren't bowing down to the SJWs for having a mainly white cast in 'Hail Ceasar'.

The Cohen are right, at least in the sense that the Oscars are not the beastly yearly event that were years ago. A nomination expands the "life span" of a film but not in the way that there is real cultural impact. There is a reason why Oscar bait like films have a particular "season" in cinemas.

Also, the Coen seem to be the "whatever we want to make" type of guys, is weird to ask questions about diversity or progress to the guys that made "A serious man".

It's about 1950's Hollywood.

Gee, I wonder why there aren't more black people?

In regards to the Oscars expanding the lifetime of a film, does anyone remember Crash?

Or are you more likely to remember Brokeback Mountain?

Another example. Goodfellas or Dances With Wolves?

Do the Right Thing or Dead Poets Society (ridiculously overrated film)?

The Great Dictator or Rebecca?
The Grapes of Wrath or Rebecca?

Apocalypse Now or Kramer v. Kramer?

Etc. etc. etc. etc.

SJWs don't care about historical accuracy. These were the people who made a fuss about there being no black people in Frozen despite the fact that Scandinavia, especially when the story is set, was whiter than a blizzard. These were the people who make blogs trying to prove that medieval Europe was crawling with black people. These are the people who staff the Historical Revisionists thread.

Everybody remembers Crash - as the film that proved the Oscars were a joke. No list of the worst Oscar winners will fail to include it.

Do the Right Thing or Dead Poets Society (ridiculously overrated film)?

Forrest Gump or Pulp Fiction?

This whole site completely befuddles me, it seems like they’ve forcing themselves and other women to feel ashamed for liking harmless stuff like Spiderman because of the stereotypical idea that fantasy fiction is a boys’ club. I thought feminism was being proud of who you are.

I mean, if you have to justify your reasons for liking science fiction, a genre celebrating diversity of thought, by confining yourself to current political movements, than it’s probably not for you in the first place.

E.T. or Gandhi?

The Oscars are a political circlejerk and if these idiots wanted the kind of change they say they want, they'd be supporting independent filmmakers instead of whining about diversity for every single new goddamned movie that comes out ever.

So, basically the Mary Sue article featuring the Coen Brothers is basically just an elongated "Why don't you write stories the way I want you to write them?" whine.

"Additionally, calling the #OscarsSoWhite movement started by April Reign an unnecessary escalation reeks of privilege and comes across as incredibly condescending for the many people who have voiced that the subject matters to them.
"

You know what's incredibly condescending, Charline Jao? Acting as if the person who has a different or neutral opinion to something you care about is an inherently terrible person because they don't think the same way you do. Hell, just the phrase "reeks of privilege" in all actuality reeks of the condescending attitude of someone who has spent more time in liberal arts academia than with interacting with your average Joe.

"It becomes clear around the time that Joel equates Chinese and black people to Martians that I’m going to have to watch Hail Caesar! with some conflicted feelings."

Yes, because heaven forbid you buzzkills actually enjoy something for once in your lives.

"It’s frustrating to see directors whose works I like try and say there’s only one “right” way to write stories and to dismiss diversity as something that needs to happen organically rather than something that should be actively considered."

YOU people are the ones saying that there is a right way to write stories by actively meddling in the creative endeavors and trying to stamp your agenda onto everything. The Coen Brothers might say "That's not how stories are written" when asked their opinion on something, but at the end of the day- they're the ones sitting back, writing their own stories and essentially minding their own business. The Coen Brothers aren't the ones trying to make hash-tag political movements trying to force a specific agenda into already existing media.

The site doesn't really have a coherent objective because of it's parasitic click bait nature, it's sort of sex negative because modern politicized feminism defaults to it in popular culture. It's generally contradictory because their's no editorial stance or standards and the employee roster is a mess. The primary purpose of the site is to draw in ad revenue through clicks and native advertising based the gradual emergence of woman (or more accurately the public's awareness of women) in nerd sub-culture rather than any sincere interest in Women or nerd culture. Frankly if Mary Sue's owner (rich white guy) thought their was cash in calling women worthless whores that scumbag from return of kings would be writing periodicals for them

Everything's got to be a war with them. It doesn't matter if race relations and the casting of POCs was different in the golden age of Holywood. I have to say, my respect for the Cohen Brothers has gone up.

I already had enough respect for them from The Big Lebowski, but same here.

They don't watch enough movies from the era to know that generally films were lily-white back then.

That topic would itself make a good movie. Just not the movie the Coens were making.

I think that's the problem, to the SJWs, any movie that doesn't focus on the heroic struggle of the oppressed sexual/ethnic minorities is essentially saying they don't exist and marginalizing them. The fact you aren't telling a story about ethnic/sexual tension/struggle/triumph doesn't matter, or is seen as a flimsy excuse.

They would, without a hint of humor or irony, complain that Apollo 13 didn't have enough black, female or trans astronauts in the crew. The fact it's based on a historic event and the movie was simply copying FACT, doesn't matter.

Fact is malleable so long as it suits a good cause, which of course, theirs is, so there's no reason to NOT make significant changes to the record in the name of progressivism.... yeah, know what that's also called? Propaganda.

When you reach that level of disconnect in your thinking, I don't know what more can be said, you are literally talking to 1984-level crazy people.

You gotta love how they call South Park "old" the moment the show talks shit about them.
The thing which really fucks me off about that is that they (and other liberals) thought South Park was their friend, completely failing to realise that way back in 2001 Matt and Trey gave an interview where they said that while they hated conservatives they really hated liberals. Everything is fair game on South Park, there's nothing and no-one they won't spoof. And much like when they made the Scientology episode and Isaac Hayes walked out it's all fun and games when they're parodying stuff you don't like, but the second it's your thing you throw a big hissy fit and call them bigots. The hypocrisy is disgusting.
