Played the demo, I like it. Consider me sold. The only issue I had is that with just one Eikon ability, the move set felt very limited and repetitive, but I already know that's alleviated by just progressing further in the story.

I don't disagree but I'm placing a bit of faith that they'll reel it in and won't go beyond what you see on HBO.I'm gonna hate it
I really don't like the recent trend of all writing, and even translations, being written like an edgy 14 year old who's all excited because he gets to slip in as many cuss words as he can because fuck you dad, but oh no don't even go close to any of the big bad nasty slurs like "faggot"! Writing it into things that should have some decorum, like Final Fantasy, is just dumb as hell. I think Final Fantasy VI might be closer in tone to Home Improvement than whatever FFXVI's gonna be.
Look on the bright side, no Al Bhed.No Blitzball.
Dumb abilities that don't involve Blitzballs.
Barely any belts.
I noticed the same thing and really enjoyed it. I am sure Turn based people are gonna suffer though, but the timely accessories will hopefully help with that. If the full game is like the demo, if this what Yoshi-P thinks the future of FF should be, I'm here for it.Oh one thing I forgot to comment on - you can definitely feel the FF14 DNA in some of the encounter designs. The way that bosses will start out with extremely slow telegraphs giving you a chance to learn the tell before switching to lightning-fast telegraphs in the second half of the battle is very FF14 normal-mode design and obviously the floor telegraphs feel very FF14 as well.
I wonder how many fans of the franchise are going to get filtered by the mechs tbh
Yeah, the bosses felt like 14 bosses. Going through their rotations of stuff you have to dodge. I could totally imagine them perfectly as 14 fights.Oh one thing I forgot to comment on - you can definitely feel the FF14 DNA in some of the encounter designs. There's also a huge amount of potential in-between FF1-3/10 style fully turn-based and DMC. If they're gonna go in this direction going forward, I still think there's room for improvements and compromises, like future FFs having gameplay like this but with party members that matter more and who you can switch between as smoothly as changing eikon powers. Ys 9, for example, if anyone's played that.I am sure Turn based people are gonna suffer though, but the timely accessories will hopefully help with that.
Don't get me wrong, FF10 has probably my favorite Turnbased Combat of any game to date, but its been clear since like FF12 that Square's been wanting to move away from Turn Based, which is fine. I'm honestly surprised the marriage of DMC and FF works as well as it does, but the over the top spectacle really compliments the more insane moments of FF action. There's also a huge amount of potential in-between FF1-3/10 style fully turn-based and DMC. Not a coincidence. Remember the Sapphire Weapon battle? That was a preview of the Eikon battles they were working on at the time.Everybody was extremely positive and "FF is good again! Best FF ever!" about FF15 at its launch and for I'd say a good year after, and now everyone seems to have mostly reached a consensus that 15 was bad or mediocre and at best a disappointment.
I'm more curious what the reception of the game will be after people have beaten it, and where people will rank it in comparison to other FFs. No way the game will nosedive to be worse than 13. But will it be better/worse than 12? What about in comparison to undisputed good games like 6?

Where were you seeing that? At best I saw stuff like "good moments surrounded by the dumbest/worst shit possible"Everybody was extremely positive and "FF is good again! Best FF ever!" about FF15 at its launch and for I'd say a good year after
There was an insane level of desperation with FFXV though and I honestly think most people were surprised it wasn't just vaporware and that it actually was functional, so that probably tinted the first impressions. FFMayCry seems like a much more coherent experience and it doesn't have the insane baggage it has. I do expect it to have a lot more "mainstream" appeal due to the gameplay shift but have a lot less love from the classic FF players. Story and ambience do look great in general, the Ivalice stuff in general always tends to be at least solid, so on that front I do expect it to deliver.Everybody was extremely positive and "FF is good again! It's not edge writing. It's more restrained and the curses make sense. I partially liked the accented voice acting they had going on with Cid and other characters.I really don't like the recent trend of all writing, and even translations, being written like an edgy 14 year old who's all excited because he gets to slip in as many cuss words as he can because fuck you dad, but oh no don't even go close to any of the big bad nasty slurs like "faggot"! Understandable, but she wouldn't be a genesis copy. if she's a clone she'd somehow be connected to sephiroth. The only way she could be a genesis copy is if he lugged his big ass cloning machine all the way over to nibelheim. It's not practical that she'd be linked to Genesis.I was talking about the Genesis project and its cloning/merging what-have-you,
Yeah, and none of that makes any sense, even by FFVII standards. Sephiroth being ignorant of the damn time jannies saving her does make sense. Bugenhagen is going to be cranking that exposition dump up to 11, it seems.Understandable, but she wouldn't be a genesis copy. if she's a clone she'd somehow be connected to sephiroth. Sephiroth is more stable and doesn't have the risk of breaking down over time. I forget exactly why but I think how it worked is Sephiroth's genetic material was altered from the start while Genesis was injected with cells as he was growing in the womb.
There's more to it then the time Jannies. They didn't save her or anybody's life the first go around. They were merely attempting to hold the timeline in place the 2nd go around as best they could.Yeah, and none of that makes any sense, even by FFVII standards. Edit - And this from Polygon. The world is also conspicuous for its ethnic homogeneity, which producer Naoki Yoshida has explained as a reflection of the "geographical, technological, and geopolitical constraints" of medieval Europe. Leaving aside the fact that there /were/ Black and brown people in medieval Europe, this justification rings hollow given that several locations take open inspiration from north Africa and the Middle East, with towns that, for example, riff on Islamic architectural traditions and attire, but are predominantly or exclusively populated by anglophone white people (I hedge, here, simply because I haven't been around and talked to everybody). I find the deletion of people of colour from these spaces more sinister than the racial stereotypes of older Final Fantasies, particularly in a game that wants to talk about overcoming structural injustice and bringing people together. That "togetherness" is worth fighting for, but it's characterised here by what it excludes.
