It's also very heavily inspired by Game of Thrones, which had no black people in the mainline adaptation (and were awkwardly interjected in the other show).

The supreme irony is I see some Black players seriously not giving a fuck about the diversity quota.

Any Black person that appeared at least had a justification too.

I’m waiting on the PC release but tell me how it goes. I don’t mind spoilers unless it really is meant to work as a surprise.

I do gotta know though: are Clive and Jill bro and sis or are they lovers? Hearing conflicting reports here.

I leave for vacation tomorrow so I'll buy it once I get back home, trying to avoid spoilers. Is it as good as the reviews say?

I'm wondering just what keeps the enslaved magic users from rising up against their masters. Cid mentioned something about Clive not having long to live after he goes rogue, but there's no followup on that vague warning as far as I've seen. Why don't the Empire's slave soldiers frag their commanders? Why aren't there slave revolts?

They're like Rinoa and Squall, they're brother and sister and can't stop fucking.

It's fun, although Ive only gotten up to the first major boss. It plays good, the music is great and Im enjoying it quite a bit. But in terms of design, setting and pacing? It barrows heavily from ff14.

That's not a bad thing, the plot is good and they did a very good job with the setup. It just kinda feels like im playing an expansion that isnt an MMO anymore if that makes sense. They didn't fuck up the pacing, at least for the early game anyway. There's been a lot of stuff going on and the lead up to the first Eikon boss fight was Steller.

The boss fights are brilliant and look extremally beautiful. The way the environment gets destroyed around you is fantastical shit ive always wanted to see in a game. This may be the best looking game ive ever laid eyes on. It's the only game ive played that really deserves the title of NEXT gen right now.

Speaking of 14. I think this might be a prequel set in the same era. Mostly due to terminology, music cues, the mechanics of the Eikons, the aether drain upon the land and most importantly, the game takes place on a island and a NPC character mentions visiting from a distant unnamed land. We might be fighting on the 14 version of Australia. Self contained enough to be it's own thing and not screw up the rhythm of 14, but close enough for them to do crossovers if they want.

I have one complaint and its related to the gay guy. It's not him, he acts alright and ironically looks the most FF like out of the cast so far . It's his fucking "companion". Dude sounds so gay it's ridiculous. Like come on. Otherwise not a big deal yet.

Clive and Jill are not related. Dont know what the setup will be.

Ive wondered that too. I probably need to check out the in game Codex, it mostly seems like gaslighting and conditioning then any actual spells but something might show up later.

My guy, it's literally just because it's directed by Naoki Yoshida. Just because he's recycling terminology and elements from XIV doesn't mean that XVI takes place in the same setting as XIV.

That's like saying XIV is a prequel/sequel/midquel to every other Final Fantasy just because XIV is a giant melting pot for things from every other Final Fantasy game and because it has technically canon crossovers with XI, XIII, and XV.

"Beg your pardon?"

Tax: FFXVI's combat is boring and repetitive. They should have gone back to the CTB; the only good combat system from the only good FF game.

Well.... it fits pretty well if you assume the 13 shards stand in for the FF worlds. They had a lot of direct crossover with ivalice as well. Even mentioning characters from Vagrant story.

It's well done. There's just enough there for people like me to assume and enjoy the idea of an interconnected world. and not too much for people to not dismiss it if they don't like that idea.

The thing that makes the combat more spicy is fully upgrading your basic moves. Like the devil may cry stinger isn't impressive at first until it's mastered and coated in flame.

Tbh I see this as a small set down from the 1000 year old loli— Why even set it up like that?

Jadzia Dax managed to do the centuries year old young woman idea without being creepy and childhood friends is totally sufficient.

Imagine how mad the reactionary crowd would be if XVI were racially diverse but most of the black people are Branded because that would also be historically accurate.

It probably gets decent after 10-20 hours
Pretty much. I'm far enough in now that I have 4 eikons and a considerable amount of upgrades, and I feel like I'm now getting into a groove of just curb stomping things by juggling all of the combat options I have. For a long while, it really is just basic combo with the occasional splash of eikon.

If you find yourself more time that you're willing to burn, try the game again and see if you enjoy it more once you can do more.

Also, the side quests blow. 90% are "go here, talk to this guy, get pittance reward".

I'll probably play it when it's free somewhere but I'm not gonna buy it. I wish they'd make at least one turn-based game, just for the old-timers.

I can't remember a single side quest in a Square Enix FF game. I remember doing the Ci'eth stones in FFXIII but the only individual one I explicitly remember is the final one, because I was dead inside from all the grinding up until that point. It was fun though, and that combat system was interesting and enjoyable outside of grinding and weak encounters.

Squaresoft knew how to do side quests, but that was because they were so tedious and frustrating that it ended up being a rewarding challenge just beating them, not to mention the rewards were usually worth it. Fucking chocobos and butterflies and lightning and "how many fucking monsters do I have to fucking capture!?" I forgot to dispel Wakka during a certain boss battle and got party wiped, RIP first try.

Let me know if the end-game/superbosses in this one are enjoyable.

Been playing it around 10 hours now, the pace started alright but really slowed into a crawl so we could have something like 3 hours of "slavery bad", I fucking hate when Japanese games find it necessary to moralize the most basic bitch ideas, as if anyone won't immediately think it's bad. Not a fan of the combat, everything is very spongey and you never go past spamming combos and rechargable skills, even with the super mode it's just more particle effects.
I've given up completely on sidequests, holy shit is the reward not worth it for any of them. Especially as it seems you could get every crafting material from just playing the game normally.
The plot is alright so far, usual case of dying world due to evil church. Some scenes fall flat, like having the hero go into depression from finding out he killed his brother despite the game already shown the brother is alright.

Why does Final Fantasy have to be Bayonetta all of a sudden? Where's the strategy and the charm?
I played all the way through FFXV and I had no idea what was happening in any of the fights, I just spammed my fav weapon and would get a special attack occasionally. Sure it looks good in trailers but it pales in comparison to how 7 and 9 felt to play.

I really miss the days of maximalism. You had simple systems that were fun on their own and games full of content to give that system more depth. Now you have overly complex flashy systems with barebones games around them. I want FFXVI to be good and successful but I hate seeing what worked about the old games be dead and gone.

The side series at least have the complexity and RPG elements, but the annoying thing is how useless all the assistants are. I eventually gave up on manually controlling the wolf and just put the amulet that makes it auto attacks so it will at least level up automatically.

The gameplay is clearly inspired by the Witcher 3 but it doesn't let the player have any sort of customisation like choosing stats to level up, customizing combos, or even basic bitch elemental damage/immunity. Like how the fuck is firing a flame bullet at a bomb does the same as an air bullet

And again with the sidequests, Witcher 3 had the vast majority of the sidequests feel meaningful and unique, some with unique enemies or massive world changes. Here it's busy work that a lot of times takes more to explain to the player than the person doing it themselves.
