I'm missing two Special World entrances and I can't do the final Special stage without them. I've looked in every corner of the map and I've come up with nothing.
Is one of them World 3's special world? I almost missed it when I played

This game is the biggest example of mass hysteria in gaming that I know. I'm glad the Mario formula is idiot proof so the game is still enjoyable but it's the weakest 2D entry in the series by a considerable margin.

The levels are too short and easy, but what truly irks me is the abundance of stupid filler like those 5 second Mario Maker levels scattered across the map, what's the point of these things? The insignia system is useless because the Hat is the only skill you will use. The exploration is shallow, all the purple coins are in your face and the game barely has any secret endings. Two secret (if you can even call that shit a secret) endings in the game are "unlocked" after you beat the level a second time. That's it, no investigation, no mystery, just finish the level again in the exact same way. insulting.
I agree. Very rarely do I change from the parachute hat because it's the easiest badge to get the flag. There's no urgency in levels because there's no timer, except for certain sequences. While I've missed some things, other stuff it's right there in your face, so exploring a level doesn’t feel special like in other installments. Lives are extremely easy to get, since you can just buy with flower coins, so even if you fail a lot, the game is still too easy.

It's basically baby's first Mario game.

I've only played a little bit of it because I don't have the time anymore. I'm waiting until Thanksgiving to play more. I have to agree.

Alright, beat the first playthrough. I have some stuff to collect still. I can say this entry is one of the easiest, frustrating, bullshittiest, and weakest of the Mario 2D games. The last battle is a fucking rhythm sequence ffs. Really lackluster.

I give this game a 6.5/10. It looks nice, Mario's an idiot proof game and I had fun.

Accidentally did a shell jump and missed the mushroom.

just finished the game myself
And....I dunno if it's just me....but after finishing it, I don't know what the fuck all the hype is about. I mean, it's still a great experience, don't get me wrong, the presentation alone is woth the price of admission, but the presentation is....kinda all it has? Because the game itself is just TOO. DAMN. EASY. Even going for 100% is a relatively smooth experience (with one or two struggles - Way of the Goomba and Badge Marathon, I'm looking directly at you). Definitely the freshest 2D Mario has been in years, but still a caliber below SMB3 and World.

I tried playing Mario in Wonder out of fairness to Kevin Afghani. His impression of Mario is not that bad (except when he does a gay lisp). It's just that his voice has absolutely no enthusiasm. This is why Toad is a lot more fun to play as because he always yells at the top of his lungs like a madman.

If I didn't know about the role change, then I'd have just assumed that the Mario voice actor is getting old. But no. The sad truth is that 27-year-old Kevin sounds a lot less energetic than 62-year-old Charles Martinet.

These video were not cherrypicked. The difference is really that bad. I hope Nintendo can get a better person to lend his voice for the character in the near future.

I go back to it every once in a while and playing a couple of levels, but it's not really grabbing me enough to plow through it. It does make me smile when I do. Don't know if Mario just doesn't have the same pull as it used to have on me or if it's just alright. To be fair I have the same relationship with Odyssey which is considered as peak 3d Mario by most people.

Each Super Mario Bros. Wonder level has a very clear structure to it. You have your introduction, followed by the middle chunk which usually includes most of the platforming, and then the Wonder Flower is a nice epilogue.

Ubisoft actually did the same thing with the levels of Rayman Legends 10 years before Wonder was released. The main difference here is that Rayman had smoother transitions while Wonder boasts a more bombastic (and shorter) display of effects and gimmicks.

One thing that bothers me personally is the difficulty scaling. Wonder was built with levels that can be enjoyed individually, and that for me ruins the fun of the campaign experience. They addressed this issue by allowing you to only play a handful of levels before getting to the boss stage. After playing the game again from scratch I can confirm that it's actually more fun to play the levels you want to play, or even save some levels for later on purpose.

Top-tier presentation accompanied with dozens of features and new obstacles being introduced throughout the entire game is exactly what I want out of a two-dimensional platformer. Nintendo has pushed the bar so high that the indie devs with only one or two tricks up their sleeves (I'm looking at you Celeste, you fucking tranny) now look like peasants.

It would be a crime to give this game anything below a perfect score, but game journalists are criminals.

I guess it didn't have enough cutscenes for them.
If Bowser Jr trooned out and bashed Mario's skull in during a Mario Golf minigame maybe then they'd give it a perfect score.

I played Wonder for the first time today (striking while the iron's hot!) and for me it's not that his Mario impression is bad - it isn't - but that Luigi sounds irreconcilably different. I'm only guessing it;s the same guy doing both voices but Luigi sounds nothing like Charles Martinet.

It's not a bad Mario impression but it's also not authentic. I believe Kevin Afghani's range is very limited, like maybe his voice can't get higher than a few notes. Definitely nowhere near as playful as Martinet.

Imagine him voicing Wario and Waluigi in the next Mario Kart of Mario Party. It looks like I'll be trying the alternative characters a lot more than I used to in Nintendo's future games.

Lots of Mario games have characters aside from him to choose from now thankfully, but we're gonna probably be stuck with this shit in the next mainline 3D Mario game. It'd be a great time to pull a SM64 and allow for different characters in those too. If I could just play as Yoshi in every game I'd be set.
