Just try the Balldo. Once.

Try it.
I will not try the Balldo. However, I have tried Super Mario Wonder and it's a lot of fun. I'm currently in the process of finishing 3 other games from my ever growing backlog which is why I haven't finished it yet.

Difficulty-wise, the hardest part of the game is only getting all the collectibles. The timed arena levels and the 3 seed levels make this exceptionally difficult. The game will still introduce some levels of classic difficulty and those are the levels I've enjoyed most.
Whoever Nintendo hired hired to voice the talking flower sounds like he's guzzling down soy. The guy who voices Mario and Luigi sounds like he was made of soy. Though I haven't had any issues after switching the flower to Russian and playing with Toad. Nintendo did good by letting you change the language of the flower without having to change to the localized version of that language. Maybe torrenting has forced me to catch glimpses of Russian dubs too many times over the years, but I actually found the Russian flower to sound fun and endearing instead of gay and soy.

Wonder flowers are a great gimmick, yet the levels without them tend to have the most creative design. The Wunder Blüte are more of a nice climax to the levels before the tension deflates and you get to hug that pole. Overall, best 2D Mario game since Super Mario Bros 3. I'm glad Nintendo has finally decided to play catch-up and embrace the evolution of 2D platformers since the SNES era ended.

Game journalists really are a special breed. This one said he spent a lot of time farming gold coins to get 1-ups by using the elephant ability and watering the ground until he realized he could just spend 20 purple coins to get 5 lives. The game isn't that hard and never felt the need to farm lives. I don't know why you would farm lives by coins anyway when infinite 1-up tricks exist.

I have reached a point where I don't want to play right now because I am not looking forward to the wonder stuff. But in a couple weeks I will get back to it.

Great game!

That can be said about a LOT of Mario games. Hell, the ones in the DS/3DS/Wii/WiiU era just gift you 1ups like fucking candy.

How shit are your gaming skills that baby's first platformer is giving you fucking issues?
I never needed to farm 1ups but the 3DS kept giving me the invincibility leaf because I sucked ass.

That in particular I hate

They did that shit in the Donkey Kong games too. "Hey, we noticed you're dying a lot, here's god mode so you get through the obsticles". Um, how about fuck you. I didn't need that shit in the NES era, I don't need it now.

I took it, but I'd rather it not be offered. That should be locked behind easy mode, not handed to you by default.

It's meant to encourage you, but it only discourages you from trying. Kinda like optional difficulties but much worse.

Never ever take Nintendo's help in their games. In one of the DS Mario games you'd lose the ability to get sparkly completion stars on your profile if you used Super Guide even once. And your shame will never be erased.

Just like how old Zelda games had a death counter on your profile. If it ever hit one, nuke your save and start over.

Even though only one Mario game did it 15 years ago, I will never use their help systems. Even though Zelda doesn't have a death counter, I do a no-save shutdown of my game if I die and start my task over again. Even in other games that aren't Nintendo.

Not even once.

Glad they finally make something that can live up to the game instead of cynically milking elements of SMB3 for nostalgia bait. Previous gen mario put me off with its constant 'MEMBER SUPER MARIO BROS. 3?
I'm actually glad Nintendo took a step back in their 2D platformers because that brought us some great games from their competitors as well as independents. It's also good that they've returned with a 2D game now that indie games have started to become gay (see: Celeste and Eagle Island).

this is a subjective and esoteric question but does this game feel "floaty"? Im a huge fan of the first few Mario games but I hated all the New Super Mario Bros games on ds Wii and U because the physics are this weird floaty shit I can't describe but hate. My favorite modern Mario games were 3D Land & World because even though they're 3D they feel and play like 2D Mario from 3/World and not the floatiness I haven't gotten this yet bc I just assume it feels like New SMB

I actually can answer this question because I share the same autism with the floaty feel, and it doesn't feel as floaty as New SMB and I'd compare it closer to World to be honest

thank you, I hadn't asked anyone I actually know irl bc I can't describe it so nobody would know what I'm talking about. I'll probably buy it. I still had fun with the other ones as multiplayer games with my gf or friends at the time when they came out but never played them outside of socially so I wasn't sure if I wanted to bother with this one if outside of when my girl wants to play it or friends are over I wouldn't touch it. however that's good news, if nothing else at least it's going to be slightly better for me than the other ones

Is it related to the weird small slide that occurs every time you stop walking? This problem really bothered me in SMB64 because Mario was never where I wanted him to be. The jumps in this game are pretty accurate, but I think they have a remnant of the effect they put in NSMB that made them feel weird.
This is ultra autistic stuff. You'd have to analyze the New Super Mario Bros games frame by frame to find out why the jumps aren't what they used to be in the NES/SNES era.

Its a mixture of this, also the way that phenomena mixes with a jump that your landing is a little bit off, and then in the air when you jump there's sort of a slow feeling when you let go of the button as you go up and movement feels odd in the air like moon gravity or something it feels like there's not enough weight to your characters. yeah its extremely autistic bullshit that's why I've never attempted to really elaborate on it. It just comes down to, the nsmb games don't feel as good to me to pick up and play. whereas somehow the 3D land/world games don't have this your jump and landing feel weighty in a more (personally) satisfying way. It doesn't actually suck or anything, I just have a hard time getting used to the physics in those games and once I am used to it I have never really liked it much. It's a personal experience thing not an actual issue with the games themselves it's just something I can never quite gel with or explain well

I think the 3D games sucked (World specifically) because the jumps were too weighty. The jumps need to be exaggerated and animated to where they're fun. They can't be too exaggerated to where they become floaty and imprecise.
I'd say it's a delicate balance and one that only 0.1% of players will even notice or care about lol

Digital Foundry did a side by side comparison between Wonder NSMBU. They showed that Mario's momentum has changed allowing movement to become more precise again, while the speed and jump height hasn't changed much if at all. The result is a less floaty feeling. Segment starts at 3:25.
