My guess is that the past two New Super Mario games didn't do as well and nintendo wanted to drop the brand.

There's really not a lot to talk or speculate about a 2D Mario, but on the boxart there's a Goomba with a blue mush cap, I think he's going to be a playable character.

I'm kind of ehh about how it looks and gameplay. After how amazing DK Tropic Freeze was compared to the New Super Mario Bros games on the Wii U I don't know if Nintendo even had it even them any more. The quality difference between just blew me away.
The Wii U New Super Mario game was still in that corporate era where Miyamoto was playing it "safe", hence why it's lame and DK Tropic Feeze is good.

This COULD be better than those other games in the "NEW" series considering it's on the switch and the mario titles that have been on it (so far) have been really steller (Galaxy and Mansion 3 in particular), but I'm not holding my breath. Even 3D Land on the 3DS was better than those games. At this point I don't get who still likes these games since IMO the "NEW" series doesn't even hold a candle to the classic NES/SNES games.

It's for little kids

You're never going to beat Mario Maker shit or ROM hacks for those kaizo, hardcore faggots. Old school faggots just stick with the classics, like you said.

It's literally for little kids who just saw the movie. I'm surprised Chris Pratt and Charlie Day aren't doing the voices tbqh

Someone a bazillion years ago told me that the New SMB games were made by junior developers. I guess that's why they're all so bland and forgettable. I really can't remember any specific levels from any of them.

Some are now speculating that Martinet may not even be voicing Mario in this entry since he kinda, sorta sounds different.
What do you think? Complete overspeculation on the fans' part or is Martinet truly retiring the Mario character (at least for this game) for now?

Barely any of the stuff on this game was on the movie, Daisy and Yoshi included.
And? It's still meant for newcomers (i.e kids who are introduced to Mario from the movie) to the series.

What do you think?
I'm wondering who the fuck would pay for a cameo from Arlo...

As for the topic at hand, I think it could just be Martinet getting old and not being able to keep up *the* voice for certain lines. The dude is pushing 70, after all.

For marketing purposes, considering what was shown on the movie, Nintendo would be pushing more the spinoffs, like Mario Kart/Party, on the forefront rather than the mainline games imo.

I mean, they are pushing Mario Kart still and just released a new Mario Party like a year and a half ago, but okay...

Edit: I'm not saying it's a tie-in TO the Mario movie, I'm just saying it's for newcomers. They don't have to be new because of the Mario movie, but lets be honest it's the biggest animated film ever it's bringing in some new people.

I really don't get why (edit: older) Nintendo fans seem to think Nintendo is thinking of them and not the next generation of fans when they're making new games.
