A huge problem here is that he definitely does not have enough money for a lawyer. But with the best defense available, he would just take a plea for everything, maybe 8 years and then serve half of it & be out in 4 for good behavior.

I am basing this off the severity and number of charges that he is facing, in addition to already having his probation revoked from Louisiana while facing these three new charges.

What's more amazing is that he would keep it on all the time, even as he slept. Imagine trying to convince him to take the boots off before going on the bed! I'm going with the fact that a drug addict implies that a person does hard drugs. Hard drugs are cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, meth, etc. If a person does pharmaceuticals, they are a pillhead. We do not call them a drug addict. If your mom is popping pills in the bathroom, she's a pillhead, not a drug addict. We don't want to conjure the image of her shooting up with a heroin needle when she is just popping pills. If a person only smokes a plant that contains THC, which is indeed a drug, we call them a pothead. This is just like if a person is addicted to caffeine, we don't call them a drug addict, even though caffeine is a drug. If a person is addicted to alcohol, we call them an alcoholic, even though alcohol, like THC, is a drug. I hope this clears things up for the dimwits in the peanut gallery.

That's compartmentalizing, really, but I'm not interested in splitting hairs any further. I'll leave that to someone with irons in the fire, but the way I look at it is if you'd rather spend your time with any unspecific vice rather than bettering yourself on a consistent basis, it's unhealthy.

Addiction can happen with anything. The hallmarks of addiction are running your life into the ground in order to continue with whatever the addiction is. Addiction is distinct from the object of the addict's desire, whether substance or activity—addiction is in the head. Drug addiction pertains to any intoxicant. Drug dependency is distinct from addiction; that is a physical thing. I am dependent upon metoprolol and both dependent upon and addicted to nicotine. If I quit either, there would be physical symptoms, hence the dependency. Nicotine withdrawal would be three days of irritability and metoptolol might elevate my BP.

Medical terms have specific meanings, and you are glossing over them or making things up. Your distinctions are often used as rationalizations by people with self-control problems. Just semantic quibbles.

She's a pothead, that is a specific vice. There's a bunch of people who are on benzos with a Doctors note, the only difference is that's socially acceptable. I mean you had pill mills in the Midwest that were prescribing more prescriptions for opiates than people in the county. Those are just two psychoactive drugs that are shrugged about in polite society. I think therapy would be a better option for a lot of those people too, but therapy is so pozzed that I understand not spending all that money to hear about how you have to respect the lady dick.
