From what I've heard of Helldump, that matches up pretty well.

Doxing is done here for one reason; to build a viable set of links to someone we cover and establish a pattern based on their internet and IRL history because it helps track content and the party involved for better observation.

Something Awful's Helldump seemed to view that as a secondary benefit at times. More often, it apparently was used for the same reason some faildoxers and petty assholes who think they are internet badasses because they can read a digital phone directory on someone use it here:

Basically ripping away any illusion of anonymity off someone even if they either did nothing that was seriously wrong legally or otherwise, but more as a means of spite to chase people off due to pointless and petty grudges. Helldump just embittered goons against each other and was basically a circular firing squad run by a clique of elistist bastards trying to keep the undesirables (in their eyes) out of their clubhouse.

I bet another reason it got closed was because even those who benefited from it's more spiteful use realized it could easily turn back on them, and since the SJWism was starting to calcify hard around the time it was going to die, getting it closed down was not a hard decision.

It was a slow creep of "can't tell if serious" comments starting to appear in threads of all topics to the point where I would come in to lurk and see them everywhere and wonder "did I miss a fucking memo?". Like I'm just in here tryna see what the consensus is on a new video game that was released and people are just casually dropping shit like "fuck white people" and no-one calls it out, or even more bewilderingly starts a derail of folks trying to one-up each other on insanely far left rants and I'm just sitting there with a blank look on my face thinking "ok, I guess everyone has just decided to be crazy now" and close the browser tab.

As SA started the gradual downturn of giving me less and less reasons to check in there if found myself doing my idle internet time wasting on 4chan, because although it was equally or more infested with degenerate repugnant shit, at least I could get a chuckle or two at some stuff there every time I went while still getting my catching-up on topics I'm interested in. For all its faults I think the anonymous "who gives a shit" posting style is a glue that can hold a huge community together in spite of it being composed of people of wildly different backgrounds and opinions. It is most definitely not perfect and downright disturbing at times, but at least it was an interesting place to be.

You know, technically, it is true that some alcohol doesn't really override your ability to make informed decisions about who you want to fuck or fool around with, but the problem for Azure Horizons was that even if SA hadn't become increasingly pozzed, nobody would believe that someone would just be a-okay with taking a cock up their ass just because they had a few beers or a couple shots of whiskey. Anal requires preparation, lube and such, as the anus does not lubricate itself, it's not a vagina or a penis and I find it highly doubtful that some drunken faggot would remember that when he's about to take the, for him at least, forbidden fruit that is/was the assholes of his straight friends. I am not at all surprised that they took so long to ban an unrepentant sex offender from the forums, given that it's happened before with Aatrek, Morally Inept, and god knows who else.

Everybody (especially the mods) knows Aatrek's story, but Morally Inept was generally just another annoying goon up until he made a post in the "fucked up things you did as a teenager" thread. Everyone else in the thread was just posting about stupid, banal shit they did when they were stupid kids; Morally Inept came in all "well you see i had this female dog and um well uh you know well see i um hehehehehehe"

He won a custom title almost immediately, linking to the post in which he confessed to raping his dog. He paid to change his custom title many times, only to see it return. He edited out the post, but it had already been quoted many times. The consequence was that every time Morally Inept posted in any thread, it immediately derailed into "hey morally inept why did you rape your dog." He tried being cute about it, he tried being smug about it, he tried being defensive and self-righteous about it, nothing worked. It still took years for him to finally be permabanned, though.

Yeah, I did that too. I tended to stay out of GBS for most of my time there and just stuck to Games and Serious Hardware/Software Crap. Games was always rife with some serious consoomers that'd give Reddit a run for its money, but I never knew of a better place to actually talk about games that wasn't overrun with exceptional individuals.

SA was shit since 2008 at least. But the faggotry was confined to certain areas of the board. Easily upset trannies had the good sense to stay out of threads where the majority of active posters didn't like them, and mods would tell the tranny to chill out and stay away from the the thread. This has shifted to the point you have Mods closing productive, interesting threads -even ones not using wrongthing words - rather than anger the tranny bunch.

He raised at least $20,000. I believe he contacted the xenforo devs to see if they could help with the migration and they gave him an astronomical amount to do so. He then made a post saying “hey guys I know I raised this money to move the forums to modern software with features that work, but I’ve got a lot of bills. Would you be mad if I used this to pay my bills? It would be a shame if I couldn’t continue running the forums because of all these bills I have!”

He did this with the demented trannies on SA a little while ago - "oh hey, so sorry that you think that I'm turbo Hitler and want to burn all transgendered people alive in ovens and that I invented the alt-right and got Trump elected!" (Not his exact words).
It's just a form of deflection that he seems to think that people don't see right through immediately.

I blame a lot of the pozzing of Games, and maybe even kickstarting SJW culture in general, on the Minority Perspectives on Gaming thread (archive), which was around as early as 2011. Back then they had to play a little nicer ("haha, we'd never shut down opposing views you silly billy!" "haha, of course minorities can't just insult privileged people with impunity, this is a safe space for everyone!") to get people on board, but I still remember them raiding the Duke Nukem Forever thread because the game was problematic or whatever.

Icequeen is a good origin story for the shitty administration on SA. Before, if you were an admin or a mod, you were either a contributor to the front page or you were a recognized, liked, vetted pro poster who knew a lot about the niche you'd be expected to moderate, or you were Lowtax's wife at the time or some shit. Icequeen is sort of the proto-Koalas March, meaning no meaningful comedy to point to, no meaningful expertise in any field, and no broad appeal. It's a volunteer position so it's pointless to mull over someone's e-qualifications too extensively, but to have literally zero going for you other than "is a friend of a current mod/admin" or "claims to be an oppressed minority and we need more of those on the mod team" wasn't really a thing that I remember before Icequeen.
