I mostly use CeraVe products, I consider it the gold standard for skin care because it works well with no trendy bs added.

My lineup is:
CeraVe salicylic acid face wash
CeraVe moisturizing toner
CeraVe moisturizer

Usually I do my skincare routine when I take my daily shower. If i get whiteheads I just use a spot treatment and moisturize over it after 30m so it doesn't dry out entirely. For my body I use a CeraVe moisturizing cream.
I really like CeraVe moisturizers. Any of the face washes I've tried from them tend to make me break out though. Plus the fact that they sponsored that astroturfed idiot Dylan Mulvaney makes me MATI.
So I stick with Cetaphil for facial cleansers, and sometimes moisturizers. I keep it pretty simple: Cetaphil sensitive skin face wash, CeraVe or Cetaphil moisturizer after getting out of the shower, Olay moisturizer with SPF (or another SPF moisturizer) for the day, a moisturizer cream with retinol at night. Once in a while I may switch it up and use an oil like jojoba oil or something instead.

And yeah, minoxidil can sometimes also change the texture of your hair, making the new hairs more fine or frizzy. It's not too bad for me though, so I cope with it. And the foam is indeed better, though I'd also like to give the oral version at try.

Foam minox is the one that goes the least systemic. Oral minox will make you grow hairs everywhere.
Return to monkeh.
The only area that would concern me is the facial hair area. Don't want a bearded lady look. I'm not sure what the price for oral minox is either, so I think thats another thing that gives me pause. edit: did a quick look, and the prices seem about on par with the topical version, but I'd have to see a doctor to be sure.

Oh yea, I'm a man. So I'm not sure how minox will affect women, but from what I have read. Is that men on Finasteride for male pattern hair loss don't see an increase in beard growth. As Finasteride blocks DHT, which is what is needed to grow beard. And DHT is a by-product from testosterone.

So I don't think you will be a bearded lady, as your hormone levels have to be pretty messed up. And it's most often seen in obese women.
BUT
I do see people in that sub grow hair around their eyes too, and I'm not sure if that it considered as beard or other hairs. As the guys tend to get thicker eyebrows after a while too.

Minox is only FDA approved for hair loss on the head, so expect that doctors don't really know. As this is kind of new information, and doctors tend to be old-fashioned and not cosmetically concerned. Even dermatologists.

I had a weird experience. I can have some acne sometimes. For a change, I bought this soap with salicylic acid that's supposes to be super effective against acne, and my face fucking hated it. I became swollen and the acne got slightly worse. Nothing to big. I got it under control but fuck man. What a sham. Or perhaps just bad fucking luck.

It's hard to say anything, when we don't know the name of the product. As it could be something else in the ingredient list.

But if you want to again, Cerave SA Smoothing cleanser does have salicylic acid and you can't really go wrong with Cerave.

You could list the ingredients in the same order if you wont drop the product, to give people an idea to what ingredient gives your skin problems.

Ahh... It was a charcoal based soap (it was black) and had salicylic acid. It had both. Perhaps it was too irritant for my skin? I may try something a bit weaker. To be honest, what I use to wash my face is simple bar soap you'd use for laundry. (I do check it has not any extra cleaning chemicals) and works pretty well.

Yeah I'd wager that you might be allergic to something in the soap. Did the soap have a fragrance added to it by any chance? Those can be common culprates for irritation.

If you want to give salicylic acid another go, the SA cleanser from CeraVe that Vingle mentioned is a great one, assuming you live in a country where that brand is common.

Just throwing this out: Exfoliants can make me break out like a motherfucker-- Was the charcoal part of the soap gritty? Manual and Chemical exfoliants together can be a little harsh.

I did find out something new about petrolatum (Vaselin).
Products are actually able to penetrate through it. It is hammered into you on reddit (where I began my skincare journey), that petrolatum is going on last since nothing can penetrate it.

In summary, if it was impenetrable like cling wrap. The skin barrier would've been completely destroyed.

Found this after some googling.

The moisturizers are amazing. The only reason I use Cerave is because I had bad results from a Cetaphil face wash, but that might’ve just been ingredients.

Is glycolic acid meant to sting a bit at first application?
I would say that it can tingle on application, but it shouldn't be painful in a way that it's noticeable for more than a minute or so.

If you're not already doing this, make sure your face is 100% dry when you apply the acid. (Maybe even wait a couple minutes after towel drying before you put on the exfoliant if you want to be sure.) Damp skin has increased absorptivity, which causes added irritation when using ingredients like exfoliating acids and retinoids.

If your skin is totally dry when applying and the acid still feels painful, consider bumping down the percentage if you're using anything above 5%, or switch to a product with less irritating AHAs like mandelic or lactic acid. A compromised skin barrier is going to outweigh the benefits of a more powerful acid.

It finally happened, I have my first proper wrinkle. I lost some weight recently and now I have a crease around the left side of my mouth like a crooked smile line. I look like i'm smirking.

An older female relative gave me a pot of anti-wrinkle cream for Christmas and I was a little offended, but now I see that it was FATE.

Salicylic acid tends to accelerate the process of getting rid of dead skin cells causing acne so it could be just that.
2% salicylic acid is the safest on your face since there are products with higher percentage.

May I recommend checking out products with hyaluronic acid as well.
I'm not that old or young but I'm seeing its effects pretty well on my fine lines around the mouth!

I know you're upset about the wrinkle, but fuck yeah on the weight loss (assuming you weren't sick or some shit.)
