"You may make a wish. What do you wish for?"

Motherfucker, I'm on D:7! I haven't even found Sokoban yet!
How is this run going to fucking explode?!
I always start with two blessed scrolls of charging. Then usually blessed greased +2 gray or silver dragon scale mail unless I need something else. Or you might want to wait until Sokoban to find out if you get reflection. I always hate getting killed because I waited on using something I had that would have saved me though.

I did the scrolls right out of the gate, tried to find Sokoban, then threw my hands up in frustration at all of my avenues being blocked by locked doors near nymphs, wished for blessed +2 GDSM and blessed +2 STR gauntlets (and got neither of the +2s to stick, oh well), got almost all of my shit stolen by another nymph and had to chase her ass around the level with dick bow in hand and a towel around my head to keep the goddamned bitch out of the shop when she died jesus fucking christ game you're an asshole.

Also, many thanks for the wishing spoiler you posted upthread. I hit the wiki when the first wish got surprised on me, then there was a long lag time until I considered burning the other two since I was waffling on gray or silver before I hit Sokoban, then figured it would be infinitely more embarrassing to die with a goddamn wand of wishing in my pack than to pop DSM before I figured out what the Gods of Sokoban have left for me.

Well, at the very least I can attribute that run going tits-up to operator error rather than RNG fuckery - decided to eat a stalker corpse for permanent invis while in Sokoban, and got my shit ruined by things that had infravision while I was stumbling around like an absolute retard. Nethack giveth, Nethack taketh away.

One of these days I'mma beat a class quest.

Probably best to get out of Sokoban or go down to a cleared level before eating a corpse that stuns you. I think it's a rule if you ever get incredibly lucky early in a run and get something that should be a win button item, you nearly immediately go full retard and somehow get killed.

I think the last version I played was 3.4.3 (right after they shortened some of the late mid sections). I see it's up to 3.6 ish now. Are there major changes or new content worth coming back to, or is it mostly bugfixes and patching exploits?

I haven't really played it since the new versions. The last time I completed it was probably 3.4.2. I still have that version and the latest, but haven't played the latest much.

The server I'm running on (which uses tiles because I am a dirty pleb) is running 3.7.0 - apparently in its current state it's a beta of some sort for the actual release of 3.7.0 that you have to pull and manually compile from Git or something. I know I'm not explaining it properly because I don't speak code monkey, but there is a changelog on the wiki, with the biggest takeaway I remember is unihorns not restoring lost stats any longer. Pretty sure 3.4.4 -> 3.6.x has been mostly bugfix stuff, though.

I didn't have a tinning kit and didn't want to miss the opportunity. I know impulse is what gets one killed in this game, but I didn't know just how goddamed long one of those stuns you when you eat it. Hence, YASD.

Well what is even the point of killing unicorns anymore? Some things can't be left well enough alone

Poison resistance, and also the principle of the thing.
All the rest of its effects are still in, but I guess they wanted to make restore ability potions something other than alchemy fodder? Iunno.

Necroing because I'm getting annoyed with Hades. I just made it to Styx but I'm bored of the combat in this game already. I already have more playtime in it than Bastion.

I assume it doesn't actually get better? People actually called this their GOTY?

They're still a (mediocre) melee weapon, can cure things other than abilities, cursed ones can give you afflictions, if you want them (like confusion), and you can identify potions with them. Of course by the time a unicorn is an easy kill you probably have identified most potions anyway. You can still throw gems at them for luck instead of killing them.

There is all that. I guess it's just starting to feel a bit like the devteam is out of bugs and is moving onto things that were nice and/or advantageous to the player

It has been a full decade since a new Shiren was released....

Some of the changes in 3.7 sound pretty nice.

Such as "Summon nasties can no longer create monsters of equal or higher difficulty than the caster (preventing e.g. arch-liches or Archons from summoning more of themselves)."

"The Castle will no longer generate master liches or arch-liches."

"Pets will not eat corpses that make them polymorph, unless they are starving or on the verge of becoming untame."

"The mysterious force hits a character less often as the total number of levels they've been sent back by the force increases." Thank fucking god for this one. That Mysterious force can go suck a bag of unicorn dicks for how unfun and frustrating it is when It teleports me levels below for the 8th fucking time in a row.

Elona is getting a sketchy mobile game spinoff with the original developer's blessing.

Anyone hear anything about it?

The community is somewhat mixed considering that it's "Free" compared to the actually free that the original was. It is a fairly faithful recreation of the original game, however, any house fancier than a Cozy Estate requires "Diamonds" (real money) to purchase, allies can be acquired via a gacha system, and shops reset on a real-life timer instead of an in-game one.

The music is a mixture of MIDIs from the original, and bland and generic new themes that are no-where near as catchy as the original themes, which clash considering the gap of music format quality.

Also, they turned Jure of Healing into a generic magical girl.

Personally, I haven't touched it because I treat mobile games like the plague, nor do I consider it a replacement for fan-made variants like Elona+.
