Personally Malfoid is just a fun trend that happened to get way more attention than the usual, last I checked even some mangakas were hopping onto the trend (The one that made Food Wars I think was one of the ones who did that). But I do think that it was because Harry Potter is one of the few IP's that online genderspecials hate so many RW people latch onto it. People do read into it too much, I agree, as it's just a story after all. I would say to those people it's a sort of "rebellion" against the genderspecial domination of fandoms these days.
Meaning is arbitrarily assigned. If the chuds think its a rebellion, and troons get offended by it, then it becomes a rebellion. See how that petra parker shit was pure trannyism and how attached they got to it, despite it essentially being the same thing.
